Basically what happened is that they stopped the M series and simply put in the same graphics cards with lower clocked cores but to compensate they added more cores. Gaming laptops might be finally decent now. Cooling is still a big problem though but otherwise the cards perform as good as their desktop counterparts. Without throttling the 1060 and 1070 should capable of destroying the 980m.
I'm wondering if we're going to see eGPUs integrated in a custom chassis with dedicated cooling in the future for non gaming laptops that have Thunderbolt 3 ports. There was a proof of concept with a 960m.
The jump from 28nm to 14nm was massive. I'm wondering what's going to happen from 14nm to 7nm.

>Gaming laptops might be finally decent now Every single time, without fail. Maxwell didn't help, what makes you think this will?
Michael Lewis
this makes me hard
Robert Walker
nvidia stayed at 28nm for like three entire generations now they are at 16nm
Oliver Perez
hahahaHAHAHA THANKS BASED NVIDIA
AMD BTFO AND IS BANKRUPT AND FINISHED
Dylan Edwards
Because die shrinks have helped so much in the past, right? Nvidia laptop idiots are almost as bad as the AMD fanboys >It'll be different this time! >THIS one will give longer battery life and run cooler! Meanwhile the 980m was a 130 watt abomination and the 1080 will be no different. The 100 watt TDP bracket, which previously the best, is now just the x70m
Camden Bennett
I didn't say it will run cooler or have more battery life. I said with adequate cooling and it being connected to the grid it will perform about as good as the desktop cards. If you care about battery life you should stick with intel's integrated GPU as always.
Colton Wright
>mfw the laptop part is even slightly faster stock
Josiah Peterson

gddr4 tho
Henry Carter
it's lightning fast though
Jordan Wood
wasnt this confirmed fake?
Brandon Fisher
no or else you'd need a thunderbolt connector to display to the monitor
it's gotta be slow..
Brayden Myers
excuse me are you not seeing the 24 pci-i 8pin connectors on the side
Jace Collins
haha no i didn't even notice thx for pointing it out
Bentley Ortiz
pci-e* my bad at first i thought it was metal vented sides too
Josiah Murphy
You're right it must be fake, AMD would go for 6-pins.
Elijah Davis
>will perform about as good as the desktop cards Bwahaha no. That'll never happen. Even the desktop 980 that was shoved into laptops still didn't perform as well as the actual 980.
Nathaniel Torres
Still performed better than anything AMD has to offer and now these will absolutely fuck AMD. Amd mobile graphics are disaster on so many level it makes their desktop gpu drivers look flawless.
David Jackson
That has nothing to do with anything, all dedicated laptop GPUs are shit. Your poor attempt at trying to make it an AMD v nvidia issue is laughable.
Eli Green
My 980M gtx on old laptop ran oretty much every high end game with 60 fps. Battlefield 4 at over 90 fps. Not all dedicated laptop gpus are shit. Your parents who made you are shit.
John Lewis
This one here is faster than your laptop
Nolan Rodriguez
can you fags stop arguing please
Aiden Roberts
checked
Jonathan Edwards
>gaming >laptop you manchild
Anthony Lee
What is price range?
1080 for ~1k usd notebooks?
or whole segment is going higher?
Alexander Young
So how good are these compare to their desktop variant?
Brandon Nelson
>mfw these will cost even more than the desktop versions because muh power oh well at least they are finally pulling their finger out in the mobile space >1/2 or better power consumption per clock/whatever >??? Wont be seeing that till 2021+ at least since 14nm finfet is barely stable
maybe a small jump down to 12-10nm?
Cameron Gray
>laptop 1080 outperforms it's desktop cousin How the actual fuck
Bentley Gonzalez
they're aiming at around at least 90 per cent, real life taste confirm it' at least 85
Owen Ross
Never thought I'd live to see the day when laptop GPUs perform so damn close to their desktop counterparts
Sebastian Baker
Kek 1080 sli on laptop already faster than many PC dekstop. Checkout notebook check fps for gayming is jawdropping for a leltop.
Oliver Butler
i'm guessing around 1500 for the 1060. gotta wait till more oem settle on prices though, but it's still a shitty investment nonetheless
Jace Carter
So how long until these are available? I bought a laptop with a 970m last night but just returned it because it was having issues and I heard the 10 series laptops are going to be coming out relatively soon.
Nathaniel Cox
press release said "few days" MSI and Origin ones are already up for ordering
Asus and rest have yet to announce their machines
Ryan Cox
Were they using nitrogen to achieve these results?
Luke Harris
So, 1050 mobile when? I'm not poor but I'm a student and I can only afford a 600-700 eurobucks laptop. Otherwise I'd just build another desktop. I can't justify spending more money on non-necessary shit that will drain my free time in the next years.
I'm guessing 2-3 months? I'd like to upgrade on black friday. I feel like my 5 years old, screenbroken i5 480\5650hd laptop is slowly abandoning me
