>Having any footprint online

gross. ur disgusting

Joke's on you, I usa a dedicated shitposting virutal machine.

I'm fine with my Youtube watch and search history being saved. It's useful for me.

The rest is off.

shut the fuck up retard, this shit doesn't matter because you most likely used captchas to post this, which is owned by GOOGLE

>he doesn't have a Sup Forums Pass
lmao

Hiro knows more about you than Google.

>being fine with google knowing everything about you

>my youtube history is everything about me

where did he say this?

poorfag

Turning those "settings" off does not stop them from tracking you, it just puts you on a watch list to be tracked more

it tells them more about you than you think it does

Any kind of digital footprint is disugsting

I honestly don't give a single fuck about google tracking me. I have ever permission possible turned on on my phone. Every device I have is logged into my google account.

I kind of love Google...

keep telling yourself that

>being that careless about your privacy.

Get out.

>m-muh privacy!
stop looking for illegal things

I know it's a tired argument but I don't do anything wrong so privacy isn't really that big of a deal to me. Also the more they know about me the better they can tailor their product to me as well.

my sisters husband just quit google to go work for facebook because of their shitty privacy practices. facebook, that's how shady jewgle is

Disgusting

my girlfriends husband also quit google over similar concerns, but he went to work for apple as an executive

It tells them what I enjoy watching, which helps them suggest things I might want to watch.
I can only see it as a positive.

jej

>valuing convenience over privacy

I unironically leave all these settings on. I even customized what ads they show me. It's a nice, personalized experience.

Why? Form an actual argument please.

see

Why should I care about privacy? I don't want to look at cp, buy drugs online or really anything illegal. What difference does it make in my life?

Serious question. I've never had anyone give me a legitimately satisfactory answer to this.

if it doesn't bother you that everything you do/watch/search is recorded, then i guess you shouldn't
even if you're 100% clean and could never get in trouble or anything, it just comes down to the principle of it - people should have a right to privacy, even when there's nothing to hide

Holy shit this board has been getting progressively worse recently.

>being so self centred that you believe Google cares about you over the billions and billions of people who use their products every single day
>implying you are not just a single number on a spreadsheet of billions with 5 or 6 other numbers next to it
>implying Google even care who is looking at child porn or buying weed online

How do I view it without signing in?

Everything Google shows me is relevant to me now. They know where I live and work, what sites I want to see, backs up all my photos, documents, music, videos (Google photos/YouTube), etc... During certain times of the day, I get suggestions when to leave for work and directions back home. It recommends videos I want to see on YouTube, and even the ads I see are relevant to things I like. I told Google I like manga, anime, and videogames, and those are the ads I see. I give them my opinions on the rewards app and get paid to do it. Who wouldn't use Google? Honestly?

shut the fuck up retard

>being okay with all this
Really? You feel comfortable with the fact that Google knows every single aspect of your daily life?

youtube.com/watch?v=_kBlH-DQsEg
please listen to this while you shitpost for the next twenty minutes

>thinks this actually does anything
All this information is just hidden from you know, but it's perfectly visible to the Jews at Google.

>trusting corporations
>ever

>people should have a right to privacy, even when there's nothing to hide

And you're free to take steps to enhance your online privacy? That certainly isn't illegal. As ubiquitous as it is, you don't technically have to use google products.

Yes. Wholeheartedly.

Who is looking? Its a fucking robot putting tags together. My name means nothing to anyone working at Google and neither does yours. Even if someone like the cops asked Google what you liked for evidence or something, they have no proof because the only way of finding you is an IP address. Also I doubt they even save history for that long. That would take billions of gbs of space to save EVERYONES history. Its all done locally. Google just gets tags

of course you can, but nothing can be 100% effective
also, i think privacy is a basic human right. in a perfect world, people really shouldn't have to take any steps to protect themselves

I'm not really ok with it, but it gives me an advantage over people who don't use their services. I don't have the problems that most people have like leaving to get to work on time, complaining about seeing ads, not having certain documents on me, showing people photos on my phone that I normally wouldn't have that are over 10 years old... Shit like that. It's the small things that add up.

In this instance, yes, I am fine with that.
For other things I block.

Technically, so long as you are logged into a Google account, having those options off doesn't prevent them from having logs of where you go and what you search. The standard http access logs could be cross referenced with your login logs to build a database of your activity, it's just that when you have the options turned on they specifically save the data into an activity database for you.

Even without an account they could make a fair database based on IPs if they don't change that frequently.

its funny op thinks the activity settings actually stop google hoarding your data

at best turning all those activity settings off just hide your web/location/youtube history from yourself. it's good if someone gets into your account, they can't see what your history, but google still has it. google has everything.

If you have an android, go to google.com/locationhistory . Seriously go there and see if you're okay with Google knowing exactly times you leave your house and what exactly restaurants you go you down to the minute.

Do it faggots, then see if you're okay with giving Google OS level control of your pocket computer.

You can attempt to limit Google via settings, but you're still a product and they have their ways. Why not unlink your phone from Google and use DDG?

>privacy is a basic human right.
And that right is not being infringed upon. If you use the internet it is a choice you made yourself. You cannot expect an entire communications infrastructure to cater to your desires.

>if it doesn't bother you that everything you do/watch/search is recorded
Everything you do/watch/search is recorded. Even on this site.
Sites have logged activity since forever, for sites like Google that deal with private information it is their privacy policy that is important, and I think Google's is pretty good.

yfw you realize the nsa and google are working together and google's data hoarding botnet is just a front for nsa

Have you actually cheked what's being stored if you turned all these settings on?

Your every action, every move and every search.

They log what time you were, where and for how long. What apps you opened at what time, and what you did with those apps. All that data doesn't have an expiration date.

All of that is tied to your account. You can delete it, but they will probably just hide it from you while keeping it.

>tfw i would be google free but i use captcha to post on Sup Forums cause im too cheap to buy Sup Forums pass :^(

I'm ok with it because now Google can tell me how crowded a restaurant or store is without me actually going to the store. Now they even show me how long peoples average shopping visit is.

do you honestly believe that privacy rights aren't being infringed upon? there is no unwarranted surveilance going on? man, i guess kaspersky was wrong about all that nsa stuff recently

Dude I'm enrolled in google's local guides program. Believe me, I know how much they know. Is it really so hard for some of you to understand that there are people that really do not care?

satan
i get it, not like google doesn't have all my home shit that's on the same IP etc anyway. But I sign in at work so I get the same video list. How exactly is youtube going to use that against me? Do they show up at my house and rob me because I like Deftone videos the last few days?

i dont think anyone here is surprised that people don't care about google's data mining

but it's going to bite them in the ass at some point. no good can come out of it. google will go full skynet villain one day.

You can live a very private life very freely. It is certainly possible, if not a bit luddistic though.

and you keep telling yourself they are tracking everything about you, unless you uncheck a box that asks them not to.

for what? Why does it matter?

I have had that feature off since forever and there is no data in there from my accounts.

>b-but they're still getting the data, they're just not showing it to you!
There is literally no proof that, not a single memory dump or packet dump to suggest they do.

>but it's going to bite them in the ass at some point
How? Give me a legitimate scenario in which this could be bad for me in the future.

>no good can come out of it
So much good has already come out of it for me honestly. Google's products make my life much more convenient.

I get normies don't care. But most of my friends get freaked out when I show them google.com/locationhistory . It's so exact is the creepy part

I don't think Google should change at all, they're withing their rights. But it's pretty easy to unlink from Google on your smartphone via custom ROM and use DDG (bang operators make it a superior time saving search engine anyway)

google shills out in full force today

Not using Google is hurting people more than actually using it. The company is about 20 years old and they haven't fucked anyone over. Google is about the only company that I can trust not to fuck me over in the long run.

a truly private life isn't compatible with modern tech
rms still won't get a phone and he uses wget for most of his internet access. simply using the internet or any phone or tablet or whatever will put you in some database somewhere, whether you know it or not

If you watch a lot of porn and gay furry anime (like most of this board) you would. Again, most people don't give a shit that google knows they watch funny cat videos... worst case scenario some nerd at google judges an IP address for watching 12 hours of them a week.

>trusting any corporation to not fuck you over

Good for you, really. I decided to nuke the problem instead of spot fix it, to each their own.

Serious question, so you're fine giving Google behind the scenes OS level access to every part of your smartphone?

>Google is about the only company that I can trust not to fuck me over in the long run.

that's honestly naive

what happens when google starts losing money? what happens to your information then?

No shit, it's all metadata. What is popular, what sells, what sites, data data data, no one gives a shit you jerk off to traps, they care how many people do it so they can decide if they should care.

Why is it creepy? They need that location data for some of their services to function properly. It's that simple. It's not like google gives any fucks about you enough to really care where you're going. They aren't "watching" you. They just use the data.

>They aren't "watching" you.

The difference is that I don't have to pay Google anything and I get more out of it than any other companies that I pay to use their services.

>porn and gay furry anime
Why would I care if that information shows up in my metadata? It's perfectly legal.

You think google cares about you?

You'll care one day when someone get ahold of that information and use it against you.

I know what you mean and other people I know say they don't care too. Then I show them where they've been every second for the last 5 years and everything they've ever searched. They "know" what Google keeps track of but they don't care until they see it in front of them. Normies can't wrap their head around it until they see it.

If I lose any, so be it. I didn't pay them anything to use their services.

Describe a scenario in which that is a possibility, and also how that information could be used against me.

they might not care about him right now, but they could at some point

I still don't think you fully grasp how closely tied I am to google as a service. I use it ubiquitously. I have a Nexus 5x on Project Fi, with all permissions granted. I have Google Fiber. Almost every product I use related to the internet is through google. If there is a Google equivalent to the rabid Apple fanboy, I'm that. I fully, 100% support Google in pretty much everything they do.

"Do you remember that one time in 2014 when you watched a Spice Girls video TWICE, how would you feel if we told your friends and family about that..."

>this is what Sup Forums actually believes

I would trust Apple more with my data than Google.

Google's whole business model is built around selling data.

What the fuck are you even saying?

Everything that I am talking about is all right there on this page:
myactivity.google.com/myactivity

Am I screwed guys?

>furry anime becomes illegal
>google scans everyone's files and search history for furry anime
>you go to prison

Alternatively
>people are afraid of communists again
>you looked up a book about communism
>you go to a secret prison for potential threats even it you did nothing illegal

No, you unchecked the box, they have no idea who you are or where you've been. You are the ultimate hacker, way to fight the system user.

Not entirely accurate. Google's business model is in directed advertising. Which is fine by me.

I said legitimate scenarios

I wasn't trying to say you in particular don't understand the power of the botnet.

Same thing.

They parade you and your life around their clients like a cheap whore in exchange for your convenience.

>i can see my history
>my privacy is fucked

are you stupid OP ? how is my privacy fucked? can you fucking explain ?

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Why would someone get in trouble for looking at something when they never committed the act itself? Especially when Google was the one showing the results in the first place.

>he thinks he's the only one who can see his history stored on multiple servers across the world.

who can see my data? dont tell me its google who can see my data

The second one is a legitimate scenario. Just replace communism with islam to apply it to today.

Simply disgusting.

>same thing

No... It isn't, at all.

privacy.google.com/how-ads-work.html

The NSA for one. The police if they choose to investigate you for anything. The list goes on.
