All major browsers and OSes support HMTL5 DRM, what's next for ads?

pcworld.com/article/3108544/linux/firefox-for-linux-will-soon-support-netflix-and-amazon-videos.html

Now that this is happening, what's preventing websites like Youtube putting all their videos behind their DRM plug in so that you can't block the ads? Also, is it true that website may be able to use this DRM for their entire page to prevent adblocking in general?

You're right, the future is looking grim. Prepare to get tons of ads shoved down your fucking throat. We all know it's going to happen at some point.

just make a fucking replacement.

Just do it.

Stop pussying around making logos and do it.

A replacement for what? The internet? Because that's what it would take at this point to fix everything wrong.

the web as it is known, yes.

Html+css+js+??? needs to be killed off for a straightforward replacement.
The clusterfuck that it is allows these browser monopolies to persist.

TeX+Guile wobsites served over GNUnet via GNS when?

Don't know if I agree with killing HTML and CSS, but I do agree that JS (especially with all the recent APIs that have been added) is pure cancer and the web would be better off without it. Sure some functionality would be lost, but most shit could be done without it.

>Sure some functionality would be lost
good riddance
web browsers never had any right to become fully fledged standalone virtual operating systems to begin with
it's a disgusting travesty

>Also, is it true that website may be able to use this DRM for their entire page to prevent adblocking in general?
all according to keikaku.
(keikaku means plan).

why do you even watch stuff on youtube?

>we live in the age where the judaism got so strong it managed to implement DRM into websites

The web was a mistake, when do we nuke it

Stallman was right again?
Who could have seen this coming

you know that you can disable DRM stuff in Firefox, so the plugin won't be diownloaded,
there is also special branch for it

Pirates have been winning the DRM arms race for many years. It's impossible to beat the analog loophole.

How do i change the keyboard input layout from english to czech in a console?

>That’s why Mozilla also offers a version of Firefox that doesn’t support this feature.

I want to try that packet sniffing stuff for fun over the weekend, is it possible with tp link wifi usb plugs? I read that sniffing isn't supported by all cards.

CSS has tonnes privacy exploits. It has to go.

this desu.

plus if a site i'm using would pull that shit up to me i'd just stop using it. so if it comes to the point you have to watch ads, just quit youtube. what is so cruciial about it some retarded funny videos ?

>you know that you can disable DRM stuff in Firefox, so the plugin won't be diownloaded,
That would just keep you from being able to visit websites that use it.

The problem is that unlike games, companies would be able to update the DRM for their webpages whenever it gets cracked.

>there are no informative videos on youtube

People will just stop visiting youtube.

No one likes ads. Theres a reason ad blockers exist and even normies use them.

Let the stupid capitalistas dig their own graves.

this

circumventing adblockers would KILL youtube and cause a huge exodous to somewhere
even changing their comments a bit (actually improving them) caused everyone to lose their shit

there's very little else that would be such a poison pill

not happening sorry
a lot of people I know use spotify and listen to the ads with no problems at all
normies will simple adapt, tv had ads for decades and people still watch that shit
I don't think this is mozilla fault, they try to fight DRM but nobody cared and even in places where you expect some technical knowledge you'll find chrome shills, fucking idiots
now the firefox has a tiny market share they cannot anymore stop this from happening
if they didn't adopt DRM the way to irrelevance would be inevitable
now we just need to boycott sites using DRMs

doesn't matter

most distros will bundle the non-drm version

YouTube has been operating at a loss for Years

It sounds like the only difference between the DRM and non DRM versions is one plugin that could be installed by the user.

its revenue increases by a billion a year

you have no idea how good of an investment that is

I mostly use it for music and ASMR videos, senpai. And ocasionly some other stuff.

It will happen. Do you really think people will sit through a 1 - 2 minute long ad before each video?

Dream the fuck on bitch.

shut up, there is a reason if youtude-dl has been devolped and why The Glorious RMS advises its use

You sure this is still true?

>you have to use a website to download an .mp4

People already sit through a 1-2 minute long audio ad before each song.

you live in a bubble user
adblocking was never mainstream and even now the majority just look at the ads because they don't know any better
some click on them too! if this was not the case how google would be so rich?
if you think kids will stop watching at minecraft videos just because of an ad you are truly delusional
I never use youtube so I'm not affected in any way but there are a lot of people that basically live just for watching that shit, even with forced ads this is not changing

>implying google couldn't stop every tool overnight if only they wanted
they are building a monopoly, they cannot afford this yet but you just have to wait

the only answer is stop using their services

>implying they can't have the DRM break compatibility with various downloading software.
:^)
Seriously, it's designed to keep you from interacting with what's going on inside the secure container and just let you provide input/view output.

desu, if i was a google employee and had to force people to watch my shitty starbucks ads, I would just hard render t hem into the video.
the drm is just silly busywork

That would require more power on their end to edit each video before they let you download it though unless they only ever wanted one company's ad per video.

I would watch the ads if they didn't literally spam the exact fucking same three minute ad on every eight minute video while also throwing up a popup banner that blocks the video, both of which use dozens of third party XSS tracking plugins that make each page take forever to load as I wait for a hundred GET requests to resolve.

I'm totally okay with advertisements. It is how a mass market economy communicates the presence of novel goods and services to people. I'm not okay with the big brother creeper XSS tracking bullshit that they are doing, so I fill my browsing profile with violent tranny porn and ISIS recruitment videos.

On the upside, these DRM allow the death of flash and silverlight

Stallman is always right.

Is this bait? Care to elaborate? AFAIK the only privacy concern about CSS is the :visited selector, but it still needs JS and it's fixed on all browsers (I hope).

Now.

They can also get the resolution of the inside of your browser and what fonts you have installed.

The EFF is arguing that DRM circumvention is free speech.
