The greatest distro ever

Fuck you if you're not using Linux mint.

Here user, I'll give you a (you) even if no one else will.

Godspeed.

Mint was my first distro back in 2007

Currently happy with Ubuntu and Arch

Why do you think mint is better than, say, Debian, OP?

How insecure are you?

Linux mint is just like ubuntus bigger brother. Babbys who think they know something about linux use but they dont really 'use' it, could as well be using windows

>they don't use Linux mint

This is the best distro ever!

>windows is too insecure USE LINUX

>installs mint

Used mint for a while when I first got into Linux,
However, mint is too behind the times. Shit looks like and functions like it's from 2009, it needs a serious overhaul.

What is the real difference between ubuntu and mint assuming same de is being used?

/thread

>if you don't use arch, you aren't using linux
The new theme is pretty cool, it kind of looks like windows 10, but it isn't enabled by default

>>if you don't use arch, you aren't using linux
Arch is definitely a great distro, but it's not about being hardcore, it's about quality. Derivatives are generally terrible. This is true of Ubuntu, and more true of anything based off Ubuntu.

Check out NixOS, GuixSD, Arch, maybe even Debian.

What exactly is high quality about Arch?

Mint is running on 2 year old code compared to Ubuntu.

Packages are up to date, pacman beats the pants off apt, the AUR has a lot of hard to find stuff like specific fonts or gtk themes.

After using Debian for a few years, Arch feels like GNU/Linux has been perfected.

>still looks and functions like its from 2009
>most people here run xfce and xubuntu
sure bud.

Fuck you if you don't use whatever distro that isn't mint

Hi, I just wanted to let you know how retarded you are.

Right now Mint runs on 0 seconds old code compared to Ubuntu. It won't be until April 2018 that it will run on 2 years old code, and then in like May 2018 it will run on 0 seconds old code again.

*June/July, not May, actually

>>most people here run xfce and xubuntu
wut

desktop threads showed a lot of people on Arch with openbox

Every time I tried Mint it irrecoverably crashed.

I use UbuntuMate. Just enough tweaks to make it usable, and just enough bloat removed to make it tolerable. Plus it's pretty damned stable.

Any distro that is exactly the same as arch but without a fat guy with a hat as a logo?

Mint and any Ubuntu can fall to MITM attacks. If you have problems with hackers or crazy governments, keep looking for a safer OS.

Mint doesn't play nice with my computer. I'm on an old Lenovo t430, which is coming up on 5 years of service. Mint is sluggish as all hell on it. Like, completely unusable.

Because I prefer xubuntu, desu senpai. I used mint for a few years though from '13 through '15 or so. I liked it, though I didn't need 2/3rds of the packages that came installed.

>using Windows XP knockout
>using anything other than Fedora on Gnome
It's like you faggots want to suffer

das becoz non-arch usrs r insecur

this

>He doesn't use arch linux
That just tells me you're a retard and need your hand held for everything.

RHCE here
there is nothing wrong with mint

>Fedora+GNOME

my FUCKING nigger

Do explain Mr FUD.

I'm quite happy with Windows 8.1 w/ Classic Shell, but thanks for suggesting.

http only ppa's

>too retarded to use Debian

In fairness, Linux mint runs better on my old netbook over most other distros.

Not them, but that's not the point.

Everybody can install Debian and get the packages needed to get a perfect Mint look, but that's not the point.

The thing that attracts people to Mint is how easy it is - especially for the newbies. You don't have to play around with the terminal to get things working.

>http only ppa's

You have more to worry about than http when you install something a ppa

>As anybody can create a PPA there's no guarantee for quality or security of a PPA - just like with any other unofficial software source you have to decide yourself if a PPA it's trustworthy or not

askubuntu.com/questions/4983/what-are-ppas-and-how-do-i-use-them

This still isn't the fault of Ubuntu or Mint.

Windows 10 is fine for me.

If they are so easy to find, can you link me to a bad ppa?

Pajeet wins $0.02 in paypal account.

Apricity OS
Arch for normies
It just werks

>If they are so easy to find, can you link me to a bad ppa?

I'm not arguing PPAs are bad at all. I was replying to the spurious claim that Ubuntu and Mint are insecure because of PPAs - which is bullshit. PPA's aren't bad by themselves, you just need to be certain of the source.

I cannot be certain of the source, when every request I make goes through a hidden ip located in the DosArrest server farm.
I'm not into illegal stuff, but my country and my ISP want to track every user browsing Sup Forums, I guess.

Interesting, I see your concern.

Ubuntu MATE is easily the best Ubuntu spin. MATE is a fantastic DE, and the maintainers do a pretty good job of not doing anything super retarded to bloat it up.

I use Arch now, but I might switch to Ubuntu MATE on my desktop just for a little more stability and "it just werks"

fedora master race reporting in

only shitskins and tippers use fedora unirronicaly.
Void linux is the real deal.

$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=LinuxMint
DISTRIB_RELEASE=17.3
DISTRIB_CODENAME=rosa
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa"

...

I love Mint KDE. Nothing compares.

>The thing that attracts people to Mint is how easy it is - especially for the newbies. You don't have to play around with the terminal to get things working.

That's a bad thing. Noobs should learn to get gud, not stay retarded.

I need to get a VPS for a professional website soon. And I wish to have the same OS on my VPS as on my desktop and laptop. So I at least have an idea what I'm doing.

Should I just Debian or Ubuntu everything?

My first distribution was Suse 6.2, then debian for a long time. Then I tried ubuntu, lxde, xubuntu, OpenSuse, slackware, so and so on. So let me say this: I guess I can survive with most of the distributions, but these days it just doesn't seem to be worth the time. With Mint everything works out of the box, and if you don't like fiddling around for your enjoyment it doesn't make sense to me to use something like Arch. Don't know, maybe if it's work related. But as a civilian I want just the productivity as quik as I can.

Why use Linux if you don't actually want control? If you want something that just werks, get a Mac.

It's not just about control. It's also about not buying windows, or overprized hardware for that matter. Also I have enough control to do what I want to do. If you want total control why aren't you learning machine code and create your own operating system? Maybe something with a bible theme?

Manjaro + XFCE/Cinnamon for any former Windows users

/thread

Why is the X in LinuX uppercase?

I just can't use fedora because of the fedora man meme. Its like naming your OS "prolapse".

>Noobs should learn to get gud, not stay retarded.
This mindset is why GNU/Linux will never see mainstream adoption on desktops.

lonixs biggest enemy is its userbase desu

>GNOME

Mint just werks desu

i need that wallpaper please

in general i find fedora just works best. i was a long time debian user but over time i have found getting newer things working on it started to become a pain whereas fedora is just a stable but runs newer versions of core things. gnome took a little getting used to but overall i really like it now,

Honestly, yes. I use Ubuntu with slight customization bc I want the Linux command line and something pretty to look at. Why not go Arch, Debian, or Gentoo? Because I don't fucking feel like working to make something that 1) already exists, 2) is shittier than what's out there, and 3) is something I *need*. I do with Linux what I want. So what if I don't do something that's totally unnecessary ?

This, looks as good and works better than Mint. It even works on my raspberry pi.

>oobuntoo is better than Debian
>oobuntoo is easier than Debian

Nigger what?

...

Looks retarded as shit.

Install Linux mint.

user I love MATE but that looks like trash.

There's nothing wrong with running a unibar setup with mate-menu (Shit's a little fucked though because they are transitioning to GTK3 and apparently, at least in arch, the mate-menu in the repo only works with the GTK3 version)

Im retarded for asking an honest question? Kill yourself faggot.

Based op!

linux mint is not a distro, it's Ubuntu with the Cinnamon DE, which is actually Debian.

kr0nprinz

What kind of retard cares what it looks like? It works like it's supposed to. What good does using some shitty dark theme, some shitty icons and putting a picture of some cartoon girl in panties as my backdrop do for functionality? Two bars are perfect, one bar is stupid.

I like Manjaro. It just werks.
I'll probably move onto Arch eventually though

If you wanted something that just werks why the hell would you be using Linux?

Linux is just for ricing

linux mint got hacked why would I trust it as my.mainnos?

gnome wastes way too much space on dumb shit like huge title bars and system bars that are thicker than the women in my porn

It's a fucking distro you retarded piece of shit

>What kind of retard cares what it tastes like? It fills like it's supposed to. What good does using some shitty meme spice, some shitty pepper, and putting some sauce from Korea do for nourishment?

Pretty much the kind of person I think you are.

it really isn't.

You're making a stupid fucking philosophical argument you know.

No it isn't, fuck off!

It really is moron. The philosophy is totally different.

Thanks, you're right I'm not some hipster faggot that carries on about my sriracha kale chips and quinoa pudding.

even manjaro is bester goy.

>Linux Mint User Base
And This is The Reason Why I Don't Use Your Shitty Distro

Fuck you!

Fuck you faggot

Are you joking right now? I love Prolapse Linux, it's truly an amazing distro, especially with its Fudge Package Manager.

Install mint you retard

How well does ROS work with Mint? Is it easy to install?

It's flawless! Perfect even!
