Firefox replacement

Ok so now that Firefox is nothing more than a shadow of it's former self I'm looking for a good replacement browser. Preferably a Firefox fork so that I can still use all my add-ons.

What browser do you use and why?

How the fuck do I change the site suggestions to go back to normal. It covers up the whole fucking window what the fuck is this shit

If you are running on GNU/Linux use Abrowser, it's a pretty well updated free and open fork without all the BS from the vanilla FF project.

There isn't one. Why do you think so many people still use it?

Mozilla might be trying to kill it faster than Sup Forums gets triggered by something. But that doesn't mean it's still not the best browser out there.

It's a shame Brave is going with it's shady, "pay for ads" thing, and it's using Chromium as a base, because otherwise that sounds like it would be neat.
>owned and developed by one of the founders of Mozilla and FF
>overall they have an aim of privacy and even has a ex-Tor dev on their team with pretty strong principals working on their team
>open source

Isn't Iceweasel a DRM free version of Firefox?

>le daily firefox is shit now post

You ARE getting paid for this, right?

Yes, but it's still just Firefox. If you don't like Firefox why would you use Firefox?

Don't get me wrong, it's probably better since it has some of the Mozilla taken out of it. But most problems that plague Firefox is also in Iceweasel/IceCat.

Still works fine for me.
Is there some actual issue with FF now, or is Sup Forums just salty over the devs being faggot loving tumblrfucks?

don't forget that it looks like complete garbage

That too.

When will a decent dev step up and make a nice browser?

I just want a Firefox - Hobbyist Edition rather than Firefox - Chrome Edition.

>I just want a Firefox - Hobbyist Edition rather than Firefox - Chrome Edition.
This.

So when's Sup Forums going to make a browser?

i have noticed when i have multiple tabbed videos open that firefox has been freezing up on me at times. it's so weird, it never used to do that. i'm on i5 2.8 ghz with 8 gb ram, not sure why this happens now. it seems to have started since the last update a week or two ago.

they keep breaking the layout just so they can be hip like chrome and you cant change it back in the user settings.

What are you talking about? Firefox still works great. Stop getting brain raped by google's marketing, you dumb fuck.

Whatever problems you're seeing on Firefox are probably 10 times worse on chrome, anyway.

Chrome surpassed FF long ago.

In terms of memory usage, yeah.

The Avast security team recommends Chrome among other things

This. Firefox is fucking fine.

>tfw finding out faster and simpler addon replacements than what you used before
>tfw everything set up how you want
>tfw no crashes or bloat
>tfw neatly hardened prefs.js

Seamonkey with seatabx and seafox
uses less resources than pm

Install classic theme restorer and call it a day? My firefox never changed its looks to chrome.
That's the whole point of this browser - using addons to make it work the way you want it to.

>Firefox is fucking fine.
lol
Performance is ass
#1 priority should be integrating Servo
Otherwise Firefox dies

>performance is ass
It could certainly be improved but I have to call pebcak.

Honest question: what is the problem that people have with Firefox?
What do they mean when they say it's "slow"? Even on this old as fuck PC from 2007 it works OK. It's slow sometimes, but so are other browsers.
I can't imagine it being a problem on any modern PC.

A successful developer actually told me to use Chrome instead of Firefox.. is he trying to con me?

but I'm already using a browser.

Their "ethical inflexibility" allows us to make progress in areas they won't even consider.

Where do they exhibit ethical inflexibility?

Our biochem corpus is far in advance of theirs, as is our electronic sentience.

Mr Robot, is that you?

Old men... running the world. A new age!

Chrome is bob.
Keep calm and use chrome

Opera. Faster than chrome, builtin adblocker, doesn't push ads on you like chrome. Best chromium browser atm.

Sold to China

SJWs Browser

I use qutebrowser

The transition was rough and I'm still missing a lot of features, but the pros outweigh the cons for me right now.

Why hasn't Sup Forums ever made a good browser you yet? Even if using something as a base like FF from some years ago.

>Best chromium browser atm.

That would be Vivaldi.

Just use chrome you idiot

Sup Forums lacks the know-how to create a web browser. It's as simple as that.

And what would be the point of working on an outdated version of Firefox, duplicating work that already gave birth to the latest version of it? Face it, just use Firefox. It works.

Just give you ID and sperm to google right now

>Sup Forums lacks the know-how to create a web browser. It's as simple as that.
Manpower, not know-how.

Creating a browser is not difficult conceptually, it's just that creating a feature-complete, modern browser requires years of work by hundreds of programmers. I don't give a shit how talented you are, you aren't doing that on your own

I just went back to Firefox after using Chrome for 3 years because after the recent update it's finally at the point where I don't notice a difference

I already use it (actually waterfox because of native x64 meme or whatever), but some people shill on new FFs. Maybe just a riced FF with the ship it's lacking could be done with some effort, sure there are a lot of Sup Forumsuys here without work that want to help out with that.

Someone make a thread for that and a github too.

Google Chrome

Your point?

this is the only correct answer

google doesnt care what you do because you are a nobody

>use firefox
>its slow af
>"huh, ff has multiprocess now"
>download ff dev edition
>enable e10s
>its even slower

thanks, sjws

>Firefox
>slow
Get a decent computer

Love this meme

Is my i5 4440 with 24GB Ram not good enough for firefox? should I download more RAM?

Ram doesn't make a computer faster, better CPUs and SSDs do.

does firefox need an i7 for me to browse well? should I upgrade my samsung 840?

Post specs and addons then, you won't.

I have two xeon E5-2670s, 32 GiB of DDR3-1600 , an SSD RAID0 as my / and a GTX 970

firefox is still unusably slow for me

youtube.com/watch?v=B-P68I41Yuw

chrome is objectively faster

Just use Vimperator addon with firefox and hide the GUI.

i5 4440
24GB RAM
Samsung 840 SSD 256GB
Addons: Greasemonkey, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, ublock origin

Still get "Webpage is slowing firefox down" every time I open the catalog.

Your move

how you want your address bar senpai

My Celeron from 2007 and 4gb ram run Firefox just fine.
Install umatrix.

just fucking use Chromium, it's the best browser and it's FOSS, if you care about privacy then remove some of the blobs, apply some patches and remove all Google integration, I did that and I have a non botnet Chromium browser, it's so fast

>got fed up with Firefox crashing
>switched to Chrome for one day
>fucking chrome crashed the same amount Firefox did

If these shit browser are all gonna crash, I'd rather just stick with Firecuck and have all my favorite extensions, than Chromebots and only have a few of my favorite extensions.

what the fuck do you mean it's slow?
slow how? give me an example of what you're doing.

RAM doesn't mean faster PC idiots. I have only 8GB and I still use HDD instead of SSD and it's just as fast as any browser I used. Stop with this "Firefox is slow" meme. It isn't slow unless you have an ancient computer, that is 2GB ddr2 RAM or less, on which you can't run anything than light browsers anyway, and a terrible CPU.

>switch tabs
sluggish
>use mouse gesture
sluggish, likes to lock up
>create new window
takes 5 seconds to be usable
>scroll
choppy

etc.

or when firecucks has shit JS performance because it relies on a JS engine from 2012

Oh, and my favorite is when firefox locks itself up while autoscrolling (becomes unresponsive to mouse movements) because it's stuck in some infinite loop of scroll -> redraw -> scroll.

It becomes response again as soon as it hits the end of the page (in the direction I was scrolling)

Problem goes away if I switch from gtk3 to gtk2 but it creates other problems

>people can't optimise their code and it's somehow the browser's fault
I bet you're one of those people who buy the latest meme graphics card too, just because developers are lazy and don't optimise anything thus relying on hardware to cover their incompetence.
Besides, I haven't noticed anything wrong with Firefox yet, it works on my machine ™

I literally have an old AMD CPU from 2007 and don't experience that to any significant degree.
It used to happen in the past somewhat, but not nearly enough to make me switch, I never had to wait 5 seconds for a new window.
They improved it in the last version or two, the UI seems a bit faster now.

If you're not exaggerating then I can only assume something is wrong with your install. Maybe some bloated extensions.
I use FireGestures, uBlock Origin and a few smaller extensions.

When devs dont optimize things and put out a shit browser that gets featurecreeped to the max, I uninstall their browser.

chromium is love, chromium is life

>They improved it in the last version or two, the UI seems a bit faster now.
The last version or two made the problem a million times worse on my end

firefox 48 was the last straw that broke the camel's back on my end, because it degraded performance even further compared to 47. Every version has been continually getting slower and slower on my end.

qutebrowser on the other hand is an entirely different performance model compared to firefox: qutebrowser is stupidly fast but slows down if the interface content is slow (because qtwebkit is a piece of shit), so if you have a lot of tabs open or are on an image heavy site it slows to a crawl

qtwebengine should hopefully solve that, though, which is why I'm actively contributing to qutebrowser to make it the browser of my dreams

Is this on Linux?

48 seems faster on Windows for me.

Yes, on gentoo hardened. I'm running firefox inside a sandbox (which disables hardware acceleration) and on a PAX kernel (which disables JIT compilation on 48+)

is GNU Icecat a good alternative?

If you have problems with qtwebkit try dwb?

I must admit that I had been somewhat disappointed in the performance of the primary unit

we've had to endure much you and I

Old men are the future

switched to vivaldi few days ago, feels good actually

>People recommend and use chromium with a straight face
Downloaded it to see what all the fuss was about, and to see whether it was really faster than firefox

Got greeted with this. Seems to be slow as shit, e.g. the so-called “smooth scrolling” is ridiculously choppy. And apparently there's not even a setting to disable it

Uninstalled already, you google cucks can keep using your polished piece of shit

Idk, works fine for me, both on PC and phone.

AESTHETICS

Its just the Radeon experience saving resources for an extra 2 fps in BattleForge AAA DX12 edition.

This never happens to me and I'm on a laptop. It only happens when I'm on YouTube and playing games at the same time with other tabs auto updating. Have you changed prefs yet?

>Have you changed prefs yet?
No, fresh out of the box install (and I've literally never used it before). The only thing I *did* change to try and see if it helped was disabling smooth scrolling via chrome://flags/, which made it slightly better but still nowhere near as responsive as something like qutebrowser.

>This never happens to me and I'm on a laptop.
You probably don't have a 10-bit display

I need a Hacker :D Obviusly i'm gonna pay
It´s urgent

Weird brah. Glad I haven't updated to 48 then. Just using older version with a shit load of prefs changed from ghacks recommendations and use security addons. If it's too much of a hassle try an older more secure install? Also make sure to choose 64bit version it's snappier I think.

>laptop display not as intense
True but still never had that kind of issues unless I was streaming multiple thing like game+plus tube+chan updating multiple threads
Goodluck

Firefox is rated as the best browser for a reason.

Meh, firefox on my end is even shitter/slower than chromium - but at least it manages to render correctly (as usual, chromium sacrifices correctness for performance)

The best by far seems to be qutebrowser though, especially with qtwebengine

Please be bait, no single post could possibly contain this amount of retardation

ayyy

Do you have steps to achieve this?
How hard it is to keep it updated? I am guessing re-compile every time atleast?

Even better any chance you can host final build online somewhere?

What a shame.

>using the build made by some Sup Forumsenius
It's like you enjoy being hacked

Disable https everywhere and post results

loads a bit faster, but still sluggish compared to opera

...

>Disable https everywhere
Is there a viable alternative that loads https automatically if its availableand not linked naturally?

That's not an argument ;^)

I use Opera. I heard somewhere that Sup Forums thinks it's shit but i like it fine.
