I like eating shit from my hands, don't you?

English?

I need the laptop on the right

now

GRiD's are fucking awesome

...

Sometimes I hate it.

Fucking nice user!

Reposting just to trigger that one guy.

found the pajeet

Can't see shit, but 10/10 aesthetic.

How is this power connector called?

I actually miss those old beigebox towers.

Anyone know if there are mods or cases like the old late 90s early 2000s (non neon) towers out there.

Asking for a friend.

Hmmm... How many cylinders, heads and sectors...? Any idea if I can use this in a 386?

a power connector

Thx, have this for your reward. Its a shame I dont have any floppies.

...

How? Like this.....power connector.... Power CONNECTOR..... Get over here now fucking stupid POWER CONNECTOR!

If it has an IDE controller, yes.

I've had to ramp down my old computer tinkering in the last few years due to time and space constraints, but I'll always keep a DOS palmtop or two in the drawer

test

retoasting my epic retro cyber haxx0r setup

Also OC from previous thread

>lynx terminal meme

What is that box connected to the voltage regulator and the cat5 cable?

Depends on the CF card you use, a CF card is basically an ATA hard drive, same protocol, you should just be able to use fdisk and format.

>stealing wallpapers

Travel router with openwrt. A 80186 can't really do encryption so I telnet into it for SSH/irssi/elinks/alpine/etc. Someday I plan to replace it with a serial link to a C.H.I.P.

Compaq-on-Meth

I didn't steal nothin, you stole mine

also, how did you achieve that neat purple lighting aesthetic?

fuck off

Non-UV blue LEDs!

Awesome if you're pulling all-nighters.

But what Parameters should I use?

What computer is that?
I think I had a laptop with similar connector eons ago.

You could fit a good few graphics cards in there.

Just get an old case, I don't think anybody makes any new ones like that.

What's some good retro tech channels on youtube? Watching vwestlife at the moment.

Here u go.

Does it not auto detect it? It should register as a normal ATA drive.
Also parameters depend on the CF card used.

Highscreen: dead PSU
Privileg: hdd Controller failure
No Name: No setup Disk...

Shit.

Cool stuff brah

Well, at first glance I guess one of those holes on the connector is 5.6V and one 7.5V and one GND.
You could possible just make your own once you figure out what pin is what.

I forgot, are you running an MDA card in it or an HGC?

I need to figure out a good software setup for my XT.

Is the X60 retro yet?

I've got an ATI VGA Wonder running in MDA compatibility mode.

No

No autodetect available on this machine...

Tbh I am really not that good with electronics, do you think the outer ring does not have current thrugh it?

no

All the pre-lenovos IBMs are tho.

That's fucking awesome, that's like the best thing you could put in there.

...

why do you shits keep reposting same images every single thread

instead take one of your shitboxes, put NT 4.0 with IIS on it and host a blog with the images

What CF card are you planning on using?

You have to calculate out the parameters depending on the size, Google can help you.

Things like heads might depend on the CF card, again, Google.

X60 had the option of the IBM logo at the time. It still works pretty good.

...

Amazing, this level of butthurt fags get. Fuck off.

Reposting my Apple //e terminal to also trigger that one guy

...

Hmm, Thanks so far. I will take a look and try some cards.

Looks solid. I wish I could get a nice bulky laptop and pretend I'm in the 90s but with all the latest gen Intel processors and graphics. Laptops could be so much faster if they stopped trying to squeeze everything in a small chassis. Although, battery life I can understand.

Topkek!

Yeah, it works great, and the setup disk lets me adjust the colour/shade settings, it writes it into the cards memory and it persists between boots.

Oh yeah, that's right. I ran a VIP in my other one for a while, it was pretty nice.

This one's too damn immaculately stock though, maybe I'll find an HGC for it down the road but honestly MDA isn't all that bad if you're not as much into the gaming side of things, beats the fuck out of CGA for sure.

Welcome to generals, contribute something new yourself or fuck off, I'd be glad to see it.

>maybe I'll find an HGC for it down the road but honestly

I sold one for 10€ to a retro guy I know just a few weeks ago.

Good luck! Maybe you can use some other machine to detect the parameters and write them down?

Would GNU/Linux work on that?

if any of you guys are able to move packets out of your oldass computers, consider signing up for a shell account at sdf.org. they're one of the last public unix systems that still allow telnet login. don't be sending sensitive shit through it of course

I can't seem to find the pinout for the power connector, I bet there must be some info about it, other wise you have to let some tech savvy dude figure it out for you.

My guess is building one yourself is still easier than finding one.

Indeed, I ran Debian on it for quite a while, had a nice windowmaker setup with NeXT icons.

Will check it out!

What a shame!

I've never even seen one in the flesh, strangely enough.

I like to surf their bulletin board, they even have a somewhat active retro tech section.

Still need to send in my $1 validation.

Wait, does it emulate Hercules, CGA and EGA like the EGA Wonder?

Also, does it do CGA/EGA colors in shades of green?

I remember wanting an EGA Wonder for that reason, is the VGA wonder basically the same with just an addition of VGA?

reminds me of this one time...

>find telehack
>git gud
>level 30 meta
>pasting list of phone numbers to hack later into my account
>someone on the network (prob in ptycon) pms me and says "thanks for the numbers"
>sp00ks the shit out of me
>don't login for months

>I've never even seen one in the flesh, strangely enough.

You make me regret selling mine...

That's the idea I had. Maybe I can replace some old HDD's with CF. Would be nice, especially for sharing files, Thanks to pic related easy access.

Oh look, its Steve and Woz

Yeah, it's neat!
I'm using ATA-CF adapters on my Amiga and 486. It's faster too. But I share files mostly over network.

It makes me miss the HDD sound though.

I've never tried any Hercules stuff, but yes to the rest of your questions.

I really need to get one, right now I can only do Hercules and CGA and monochrome EGA, it would be neat to actually have "colors" on a old MDA monitor.

The VGA does not do VGA on a MDA monitor tought, right?

So did anyone else pick up any old Macs in Denver today?

No, not on the same continent, sucks though, but I'd love to hear what you got!

I think they were pretty common at least stateside, which is why it's so strange to me that I've never gotten a box with one. All of my PCs/XTs are MDA, everything else is VGA.

Yurop here, I had an XT box with Hercules back in the 90's and also a XT clone I picked up a while ago had a HGC in it, replaced it with an EGA card that does Hercules and CGA.

Yeah... I'm still trying... For first I need a setup Disk.

Is the trackball wireless?

No, it can't.

Good luck! Nothing that Google and an USB floppy drive can't fix.

I knew that! Just checking.

Got a couple Macintosh SEs, a keyboard, and a mouse for $30. No pictures currently because I can't think of a place to take them that wouldn't associate that with some of my other posts.

Thanks. I hope so.

Why can't we know what other shit you have?

No I made my desk so it has a flap to hide the cables at the back.

I wish there were more ways to make ancient tech useful in everyday life. It makes me seriously sad that machines that were once technological marvels now sit in musty attics and dumps, never again to serve the one purpose they had. Computers ought to meet their ends in service, not rotting away in some dark place somewhere.

It's enough to make me consider developing software for legacy operating systems, in hopes that it keeps some of these old beasts in use, doing what they do best.

Where there many people? Are you the guy who wanted to get a Compact Mac for shitposting?

Oh, alright.

youtube.com/watch?v=FqT2uOa1-d0

at the very least they can still be used as dumb terminals to more modern stuff

>Where there many people?
There were a few groups of people, and some asshole came right away and took all the keyboards.

>Are you the guy who wanted to get a Compact Mac for shitposting?
Yeah, though I dialed back my expectations a bit.

Almost all old tech can still be used today for their intended purposes (word processing, terminal access, etc...). It's just that most people don't like dealing with transferring files and stuff.
