Best laptops for £400

I'm going to university soon and need a new laptop. What are the best laptops I can get for a £400 price range.

Used thinkpad, there is no reason to waste money on a student machine.

get a thinkpad x220 or t420 and save the rest for food and condoms
trust me you'll need it

wrong placeto ask my dude
here we only use memepads

Might get hate for this but for borderline studying and basic internet searching this thing does that well for a really low price

Is your current computer incapable of browsing the internet, pirating textbooks and using word?

Because I was in university in 2008 and the shitty 2006 laptop I had was sufficient for literally everything university has to offer. Certainly your 2014 laptop can handle it.

Condoms are free in the UK.

This.

Get a thinkpad on ebay for less than 200 and throw in an ssd and you're fine.

Try pcspecialist.co.uk

You can customise it to come without windows 10 (£90 licence) and if you're happy with an integrated GPU, you can pick a pretty good CPU + SSD which is all you might need.

Looks good on paper, although are Clevo Sup Forums approved?

ssd are a meme. Don't listen to him, it will run fine with a hard drive.

>Windows
>paying >£0

No. Save money/keep your privacy and use GNU/Linux.

That's what I meant, nigga.

If I want to buy a HP from PC world and want the laptop with FreeDOS instead of the default W10 and save £100 and myself from cancer, they wouldn't let me because
>that's how we get it from the manufacturers, m8

I suggested it because you can avoid paying the extra cost and upgrade your stats instead.

Yeah I would never buy from those normie consumer stores. They are only there to cater for the retards who know no better.

lenovo g51-35

15.6" LED display (unfortunately, 1366x768 cancer res)
AMD A8 2.7GHz CPU
8GB DD3 1600MHz
1TB HDD
R5 Graphics (1.5GB of System Memory for video)
DVD-RW+ drive that can be replaced with an $8 caddy for a second HDD or adding a SSD (order on eBay, the G50-45 caddy fits perfectly)

The whole machine should cost less than $300USD so that's what, like £230?

I've got one that I've had 9 months now, and it's been excellent for uni, light gaming (runs Far Cry 4 on low settings like a champ) and if you run mpv on linux dual boot, hw decoding gives some of the smoothest 720p video playback i've ever seen. Overall, for a very budget laptop, this thing has impressed the shit out of me. I normally avoid the ideapad line (though the G51 dropped the ideapad name entirely, and is listed as a thinkpad on the lenovo site) but the pricetag and the full numpad on the keyboard were what made me buy it (some of the software I use for my internship pretty much requires a numpad to be efficient)

my bad, it's 2.5GHz quad core not 2.7GHz
(2.2GHz base, 2.5GHz turbo)

What are good UK based online stores?

There are huge differences in prices comparing amazon.com with amazon.co.uk for electronics, makes me want to buy a flight to shop there...

overclockers.co.uk
scan.co.uk
novatech
ebuyer
dabs

dont buy from lenovo, with shit budget asus is best

Thanks

>implying anyone on Sup Forums ever had sex

Get a refurb from PcWorld, they have deals on atm giving you £200 for your old one.

>Sup Forums is NOT your personal tech support team or personal consumer review site.

Just save up and buy a MacBook, it'll be worth it.
