If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following: 0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes. 1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it. 2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system. 3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Asking this in the much better thread to do so: Between the two user-friendly arch spinoffs, which is better, antergos or manjaro? Also, how hard would it be for a newbie to do debian testing, or unstable for that matter?

Why am I struggling so much to install Xorg in Fedora 24 net install? All I want to do is install a nice minimal i3 setup. I have tried 'DNF install base-x' 'DNF install xorg-x11*' and none of it works.
Has anyone successfully installed Xorg in a F23 net install? Am I retarded?

I'm looking for a distro that I can do some Python and Java development on. This will be on my desktop, but I will be wireless. I used to use Linux Mint about 2/3 years ago but with the recent security problems I would rather shy away from Mint and Ubuntu (Because of Canonical). I tried installing Debian today but I don't think 8.5 supports my processor (i7 6700k). I am also running Nvidia (980 Ti).
I've been looking into Fedora or Manjaro. Can anyone shed some light? I also prefer Cinnamon, but am willing to try something else. I don't mind having to configure a few things, and I'm not looking for babby's first linux either.
Thanks for reading!

This is a known dnf issue. The best way to do it is to select the X Window System option on the left hand side during the net install and then 'dnf remove 'package'' the wm's that you don't want installed

Fedora.

Debian Stretch is stable enough for everyday use. Fedora is good. Manjaro is not very good in my experience. But really, any distro would work for your needs.
Andrew Wright
Cool, thanks for the help. I may try Fedora tonight then.
