why does anyone use Slackware?
I just like it. Don't ask why.
Maybe it's because "Slackware" sounds 3LIT3ZOR compared to "gnome" or "fedora meme hat"
It's simple and very comfy. Sure, it won't include every package you use in official repos, but it's super easy to use buildscripts from slackbuilds.org and trusted users like alien.
Don't forget Slackware doesn't come systemdicks bloat. And as for pulseaudio, that was only included because it was required for Bluetooth to work.
>WHO MAINTAINS THIS SHIT
I do. Fuck you
YOU'RE DOING A SHIT JOB.
FIX THOSE DOWNLOADS NOW BITCH BEFORE I TELL ALIENBOB
Fuck you faggot try having all those users download the same shity packages day after day because they break their install.
Also smack that mf donate button
Never tried systemD
Not sure I want to. Current shit seems fine how it is.
I am Eric you mongoloid. I'm taking a vacation from Linux. Good luck you ungrateful idiots, I've gotten enough shit on the forums about this shit and I am done maintaining it.
Fuck.
You.
I use a fork of slackware every day. Is this my thread?
PS Porteus. And i have a package manager :^)
A full install is pretty comfy. Especially on a living room machine where you just want everything to werk.
It also has the best installer of any OS
you fucking slackers
>Is this my thread?
you can have it
Corporate money is required to maintain a decent distro in the current year. Slackware will never make it. It's been irrelevant for a decade.
I loved it in the 90s when it was young, but today nobody but nostalgic users give a fuck and they are too poor to donate.
Use Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, or Suse. Everything else is a meme.
Corporate money leads to greed.
Greed leads to corruption.
the users will come crawling to slackware in the near future begging for help. Slackware will look down upon them and whisper :"no"
>It also has the best installer of any OS
agreed. slackware was my first linux install, and it was a fucking breeze.
Try Salix! It's for lazy slackers.
>slackware
lol'd
If your current solution works for you, don't bother changing it.
Only switch to systemd if you have something to gain from it, e.g. if your current solution is lacking some feature you want.
neither does gentoo and actually has a fucking package manager that isn't the administrator
I would like to comment on the fact that Gentoo doesn't “come with systemd” nor
does it “not come with systemd”. Gentoo is unique in that it lets YOU choose
whether you want to use systemd or not. The distro doesn't make a choice for
you.
Saying “neither does gentoo” to “X doesn't come with systemd” is
misrepresenting the fact that gentoo is perfectly usable with systemd, a fact
which I personally am very happy to exploit
t. systemd user
