KDE plasma 5 has been a bug ridden piece of shit

For literally over a year. I've tried almost all distros with KDE flavor; every single one of them ended up with KWIN crashing every 5 minutes or worse.

When will the devs admit it KDE 5 was a mistake and move back to improve on KDE 4 instead, which is a highly useable, stable desktop environment? I tire of this bullshit.

I fucking hate how things scale on the taskbar. If KDE is about choice, then let me choose the size of icons and fonts in the taskbar. Perhaps I'm too used to the Windows aesthetic, but it really looks like shit when the icons in the tray are larger than the icons for open windows. As the taskbar gets taller, the clock scales as well, taking up more and more horizontal space and looking like shit because the font size is so inconsistent from everything else.

Little issues like these plague every single GNU/Linux desktop environment and it makes them all unusable for me. I seriously use a window manager because it's the only thing that gives me the level of control and polish that I want.

Just werked™ on opensuse for me
manjaro went to shit though had to reinstall it

Works on my arch install just fine. I think you are the problem OP.

>For literally over a year. I've tried almost all distros with KDE flavor; every single one of them ended up with KWIN crashing every 5 minutes or worse.
funny, that was my experience with KDE4

KDE5 is actually modular like KDE3 was, so its superior by default

GET AWAY WITH YOUR BUGGY FUCKING OPENSUSE SHIT, I TRIED THE ABNOMINATION THAT IS OPENSUSE LEAP WITH KDE AND IT WAS THE WORST PIECE OF CRAP I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE FUCK OFF YOU SHITHEAD CUNT

Your mistake is that you used anything (everytihng?) other than neon.kde.org

KDE Neon is the only rational choice to use KDE, and it never crashes.

Same. Upgraded to KDE4 and never looked back.

>KDE Neon
>never crashes

Tweak a few minor settings and it will all come crashing down.

>with KWIN crashing every 5 minutes or worse.
Either you're a retard or you're doing something to cause that. Kwin doesn't crash like that for me.

It's very resource intensive but very good

but how the fuck do I get rid of the selection color making a pixel width line between a window's title bar and the window content? That shit is INFURIATING

Show a picture, not sure what you mean.

zoom in on the area below the black title bar of the terminal

the color is governed by the highlight color (which is currently green).

That oversized clock makes me want to puke every time.

works without problems on slackware, should have installed a proper distro.

KDE's been shit since 3.5, you got what you deserved. Plasma is cancer.

FUCK THIS SHIT REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

if there was ever an autistic olympics, you would win the gold medal.

REEEEEEEEEEEE

For example?

You need to modify the window decoration theme.

the only reason I installed the OS was to have one that looked pretty but if it can't even do that what's the point?

this is the most disgusting thing i have ever seen in my life

>I've tried almost all distros with KDE flavor
Fuck almost all distros.

Use KDE Neon.

If you're scared to try it now, then KDE Plasma 5.8 comes out in October. It's an LTS release, with no new features and instead bringing only bug fixes, bug fixes and bug fixes.

have fun waiting a minute for reboot or shutdown

never had problems with it

They fixed that bug already.

Use a stable release distro you fuck.

kde is terrible

use tde trinity, it maintains kde3 in it's original, stable form.

>install 3 different distros with KDE
>reboot
>ENORMOUS FONTS EVERYWHERE
Never again.

real men use xfce or mate

kde and gnome are for twinks

I hate all of these window managers.

they hate you too

I'll look into it I guess. Is it a setting or a configuration file edit?

honestly it was the prettiest distro i've used yet other than that shit but I dropped it like hot smelly garbage once I failed to find a reasonable way to fix it

> ctrl+f no one mentioned deepin

You can change that, you idiot.

That's weird, I don't seem to have the same thing.

That looks absolutely disgusting on so many levels.

it could be peculiar to the manjaro flavor i'm using but even then what the fuck

its on antergos too.

Its really odd.
If your window color is the same as the window background theme it doesn't show the highlight color. I think the devs thought about this but they got lazy and decided that most users wouldn't give a shit about 2 pixels or they could go edit some text files.

Plasma 5 is really broken in some ways, ricing wise.
I got annoyed and went back to Gnome 3, because if I wanted to play around with config files AT ALL I would have installed i3wm.

>all these arch wannababys

but-but antergos is basically arch right?????

>scrubs cant use a non-graphical installer

I think it might be one of these options.

I'm a total newbie and even I could figure out how to install void, even if I felt like I'd really achieved something afterwards.
The issue was setting up a functional system afterwards.
even noobs can install something, Ill take something pre-configured and figure out how to swim instead of diving in and drowning though.

whenever i use kde and try to play steam games they end up minimizing randomly, kwin also tends to crash 2 - 3 times each day

needless to say i am a gnome user now

Chrislas still defends this

I run this and I seriously haven't had any issues with it. I haven't had a KWIN crash OP.

Have you tried installing everything on a VM and running things from there just to see if all works out well?

Numpad is still broken after 7 years: bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=183458

>implying

Works for me ;^)

Kwin can't deal with games running fullscreen and changing resolution while at it. I will always get a zoomed black square and hear the game making noise. More often than not i have to blindly alt tab out of it and hit atl+space kwin_x11 --replace to fix it, sometimes not even that works. Fuck this noise, all games have to run windowed when they don't support 16:10.

opensuse always worked best with KDE
also tried manjaro, werks
but mint MATE the comfiest one

>but mint MATE the comfiest one
mint mate is the comfiest kde? I'll have to check it out.

the comfiest distro retard

Who cares? No one is talking about 'what is the best distro'.
Also, to call you out on more bullshit,
>opensuse always worked best with KDE
And why is that? What is different about opensuse's kde than any other kde?
>also tried manjaro, werks
kde werks in every distro you can think of.

>What is different about opensuse's kde than any other kde?
it's their default DE and as long as i know they supported it
>kde werks in every distro you can think of
doesn't work on TCL

go be faggot somewhere else

>it's their default DE and as long as i know they supported it
It works on every other distro. Supported is an ambiguous word, patches and version updates will be received in every other distro too. So I will repeat the question, what is different about suse's kde than any other kde?

>Deepin
No matter how many times I read it, I read it "Deep in Keyra's ass" which is porn movie.

>It works on every other distro
works, but not the same. some distros run it better. like openSUSE :^)
>patches and version updates will be received in every other distro too
no they wouldn't
>what is different about suse's kde than any other kde?
openSUSE (and some tiny tweaks to the KDE itself, but thats not the point)

again, you don't know how anything of this works. you can get KDE on almost every distro but how it integrates with it depends on the distro itself. openSUSE is one of the contributors to the KDE project, and they've been supporting KDE for over a decade. normally their KDE distributions run better than the ones in which you manually installed KDE
before you make any other retarded arguments, try running it and see for yourself

>works, but not the same. some distros run it better. like openSUSE :^)
Yet you can't give a single reason or example of why...
>no they wouldn't
Yes, they would.
>how it integrates with it depends on the distro itself.
Nope, not really. Assuming you are installing the same packages there is practically no difference. What differenciates one distro from another? The package manager and release style mainly, which would not have much effect on kde itself. Base tools are all the same, kernel is the same more or less.
So we're left with your weak "support" argument, which still lacks a definition of what "support" entails.

its a piece of shit. Eveerything is fucking buggy. Every goddamn panel has some issue that keeps shit from working right. Switch to Gnome, Cin, mate, etc... everything works. FUCK KDE bloated piece of dick cheese.

whats a better way of having a modern but stable KDE5 distro, KDE Neon or Opensuse LEAP?

>What differenciates one distro from another?
a name apparently

Neon will be LTS in the next version, 5.8.

when will that be released? I tought it always was based on 16.04LTS

Yes, it is based on 16.04 LTS ubuntu but the plasma version will be LTS. At the moment it is receiving updates for plasma as they come but as far as I understand the 5.8 version will be kept and supported with fixes once it arrives.
Neon seems to be a very stable base from what I've heard everyone say.

I see the 5.8 freeze already arrived, and that the KDE Neon image was updated after it. If I install now, will I go to the LTS version automagically?

I don't see 5.8 in the user images?
But yeah if you install 5.7 it will update to 5.8 when it is pushed out and then you should receive maintenance updates after that.
It will be the same as the 5.7 release
>If you’re using KDE neon User Edition you can just update as normal.

Just use windows like every not turbo autismo person

Gnome 2 was good before Gnome 3 removed every drop of customizability and led to Unity.

XFCE is fast but is lacking in the tricked out graphics plugin department.

KDE was always shit.

There's nothing wrong with it for me.

>complaining about kde plasma 5 crashing
> Wayland isnt even the compositior yet....

justyouwaitpepe.jpg

I don't use it because the Oxygen theme is permanently crippled. It was so beautiful in KDE 4.

wtf I hate opensuse now

Wayland will never be a thing. Please stop trying to make it one.

>XFCE is fast but is lacking in the tricked out graphics plugin department

Replace xfwm4 with kwin and there you go, fancy graphics!!111

Wayland already works pretty well in Gnome. Stop meme-ing about what you don't know, you're spreading FUD.

But is it dependant on systemd?
