How about triple channel?

One of my sticks went bad again, I don't really NEED 32GB at the moment so i've been too lazy to replace it.

...

>seagate
>they don't know

the 4TB seagates I have out of like 30,000 units over 18 months only 3% failed during testing.

Good enough for my uses, they're media drives, not primary disks as it is.

That's a pretty high failure rate.

heh I don't use Windows and speccy, take this inxi instead.

no it's not, the DM000 4TB drives are fine.

as of Q2 2016 over ~34,000 units and only 2.66% failure rate.

Western Digital was far worse with more than double that failure rate, HGST was better, but they tend to make more expensive data center drives to begin with and i'd expect that.

Jordan shut the fuck up, I have screenshots of you running speccy on your alienware laptop as well as your desktop.

>19.81%

You're going to entrust your data to *that*?

I dont have that model so no?

Like i said the DM000 drives are fine.

>ST4000DM000
>ST4000DX000

they're different drives

Look, a company that can produce such shit can't be putting out a reliable product.

Does the 5820K really support triple channel? I'll upgrade to 32 GB but bought a cheap 8 GB emergency stick to make my rig running since I sold my old DDR3 parts.

The 4770k is @ 4.6, the 1080 is at 2100/1350. Pleased as punch with the build. Will move into the next Intel platform if only just to downsize to MATX

Yes, let's just ignore the 34,000 unit sample size and use the terrible 200 unit sample size with high failure rates...

Considering I own two of the DM000 and none of the DX000 drives, why should I care?

Not to mention, they're under warranty until 2018

Well X99 is quad channel, so while triple channel isn't ideal for it, the memory controller supports triple channel operation.

>buy expensive HEDT hardware
>skimp on RAM
Why would you do this?

Its a quad channel IMC.
If you have tree channels populated on the board you get three channel bandwidth.

Guys is this the new Windows 10 thread?

Still running stock clock, I will go for a cheeky 4ghz when I de-dust and redo thermal paste on the cooler (h-100). As long as I can get 1080 60 in BF1 I will be happy.

These boards still go for a bit on ebay, so I will either sell and get something current gen (recommendations anyone?) or maybe drop in a 6 core xeon.

GPU is the 1060 Strix, its 6Gb not 2Gb as shown.

>Single channel edition

>How about triple channel?

fuck you guys quad channel coming through

(ignore the second 1080p monitor, plugged in twice for reasons)

I'm digging this Windows 10 thread :-D

I can throw the other 8GB DIMM in and boot up into quad channel if I want, it will just bluescreen within 3-5 hours.

In triple channel mode i'm coming up on 20 days of uptime.

I also have quad channel.

>These boards still go for a bit on ebay

older boards generally do, my much more recent i5-2500k motherboard had an issue where it'd hang very frequently and replacements on ebay are pretty expensive even for awful chipsets

got to love a new socket every other year with a few hardware gimps to prevent cross-compatibility

>x58 life
Why bother upgrading from x48 if all you wanted was DDR3, SATA 2, and USB 2.

x48 with an overclocked Q6600 would still be fine today.

>falling for the nahlem meme.

X5650s are cheap, go for it.

I'll receive 3200 Corsair LPX this week but I am unsure if it works. So I ordered this stick as well just in case I need to send it back.
Dual 5650s are a great deal for performance, but I couldn't miss USB and SATA3. I upgraded to HEDT to switch my SSD to a single NVMe one later. Should I get a Intel 750? The 1.2 TB isn't that expensive anymore and offers a lot of space without using slow SATA ones anymore.

monitor is a meh 24in 1080p hanspree

GPU, then monitor

GTX 960 can't really do over 1080p particularly well.

its perfect for 1080p as is, not sure 1440p is worth it, whats the best 1440p gpu now, a 1070?

yeah 1070 for current gen is best price for performance for 1440

I personally am waiting for the 11xx series. the 1170 should be great for 1440.

CPU has been running at 4,2GHz for a while since there are only few games that bottleneck it for me. Could get it to around 4,5GHz with some tweaks but then the heat output starts to overwhelm my hobo tier Hyper T4 and the toothpaste between IHS and chip cant really migitate heat spikes.

GPU is a Nano with powertarget increase, -vcore and fanmod so that it's basically aircooled Fury X. Planning on getting a new powersupply sometime in the future and overclock the Nano to around 1100MHz (Currently at 1000MHz)

Is this the new Windows 10 thread?

getting a 1070 strix later this week

hm

Wait... How do you pronounce Speccy?

Just bought a new CPU and mobo. What should I clock to?

Probably 4.4GHZ @ 1.35V
Probably most stable voltage until you get into dangerous territories

[/code]fight me

lol 1.35v on 14nm

have fun with electromigration and killing your chip

You won't kill your fucking skylake chip on 1.35V. You can't be serious

Cpu is 6800k @ 4.0ghz 1.22v

anything over 1.3v is retarded.

Even at 22nm going over 1.3v was stupid, the lower process you go the lower voltage you need, so 1.3v on 14nm is pretty dumb.

I hate my rig.

What's the lowest your CPU goes? Lowest mine goes is 25C at pretty much idle.

I don't have air conditioning though.

if you plan to OC, then an X5650 is a good upgrade. I had an X5650 + X58 system before, and mine reached 4GHz with ease.

My x58 board has usb3 and sata3. I'm running a 980x in it though

X5650's go for about $100AU on eBay. Seems like a good buy.

I still have to OC my 920 to 4ghz, on the stock clock with the 1060 it was running bf1 beta at 50-100fps maxed out. The CPU was at 80% the whole way so an overclock should reach an easy 60min hopefully.

why?
its pretty decent

you shouldnt, its great

nice super computer

You could run a huge number of VMs on that.

Nice. So does that get to 2.6 on all cores?

>MFW I wasn't even born when these computers were modern
>I had a Amiga computer in my room when I was around 4, I couldn't even read or understand English but I knew how to insert floppies to start games
>My first own PC was a 256 MB Athlon XP machine, but I used a 300 MHz celeron laptop the years before

>You could run a huge number of VMs on that.
that's the idea

>Nice. So does that get to 2.6 on all cores?
I don't think so. ES CPUs are a little strange, and the BIOS needs to support that. I'm not rocking the boat, as this BIOS works and I can't afford to have any downtime, or worse, replace CPUs with legit ones.

Amiga was the shit. So was the C64.
My dad worked for IBM so those were expressly prohibited. I had a PCjr, and then later he handed me down his IBM5155 (lugable) :/

...

>IBM5155
how old r u, like 45?

Interesting. I remember seeing 2.6 being advertised for those 2699v4 though they range. Real ones hit 3.0 on all cores.

I opted for a 2690v4 myself as it was more of a sweet spot with core performance. All cores hit 3.0.

Weird though that Turbo seems to be really fucked. Gets nowhere near 4.0 on a single core like real ones will.

close. 41

Interesting. I remember seeing 2.6 being advertised for those 2699v4 though they range. Real ones hit 3.0 on all cores.
I think only certain BIOS on certain motherboard models 'allowed' that type of overclocking. Real E5-2699v4s are 2.2GHz base. Not sure what they turbo to.

>I opted for a 2690v4 myself as it was more of a sweet spot with core performance. All cores hit 3.0.
Yeah if I had to do it over again, I would have gone with the low voltage 12core models, which were dirt cheap, like $125 each for ES CPUs. These fuckers were like $860 each.

>Weird though that Turbo seems to be really fucked. Gets nowhere near 4.0 on a single core like real ones will.
I'm more of a multitasker, I run a lot of tabs, and stuff, but 44 cores is beyond overkill. A dual 12core system would have been perfect for me, but this was a vanity project - so I can say my computer is bigger than yours.

I just wish my video rendering shit (Premiere CS6) would use all my cores.

Nothing. My Strix 960 never spins up fans.

>I just wish my video rendering shit (Premiere CS6) would use all my cores.

Yeah, that's primarily the reason why I didn't go overkill with a dual cpu system. Actually think Premiere only really uses 6 cores? This gives me plenty of room to breathe anyway all the same.

Nice system!

How much were your CPUs?
