How to make soundblaster SB0100 work on linux mint?

How to make soundblaster SB0100 work on linux mint?

Install alsa and select it as the default output

Is this any good? I got one as a gift years ago but haven't opened it cause I didn't need a soundcard.

>SoundBlaster
>Linux

Give up.

Buy a generic Linux-compatible sound card off of Newegg.

It is bulit in system.
But system does not see SB at all.

Try setting it with QASmixer.

In some cases, better than onboard

>Sound Blaster

Might as well commit suicide.
I shit you not.

It should work ootb
Old sound blasters work fine

If you're lucky.

Windows 7 detects it, works perfect with KX.
But LInux MInt can not. Any ideas?

Does alsamixer detect it? Can you select it by pressing F6?

Win 7 with KX and this soundblaster works perfect.
I can't make it work on LInux.

No it doesn't

What does lspci say?

Soundblaster is not listed in lspci.
On windows it is recognised just as PCI device.

It should be listed as "EMU10k" or similar

...

Can you plug the card in another PCI slot?

No, i can't.
I have 2 PCI slots (and one PCI-E), but one slot is blocked by GPU

FIxed it

Nice, what did you do?

used other driver for chipset. That fixed the detection problem. But now, SB has no sound.

Disable the onboard audio in the BIOS
Make sure nothing is muted in alsamixer (you can unmute something with the m key)
Also don't forget gstreamer if you're using firefox

i will try to reload alsa and see what will happen.

This is why you should avoid Linux mint.

Install Ubuntu or Fedora instead.

>still have to fuck around to install hardware in Linux
And this is why it will never be the year of the Linux Desktop.

You're right.
At the moment using the QASMixer, I managed to get sound. But i can barely hear it.

Have you plugged it into the first output port? Have you turned off an amplifier in alsamixer?

Yes and yes.

Solved the problem!
Turned off IEC958 Optical Raw. Everything now works without a problem.
Thanks for your help!
