The laptop has a 17.9mm height.

the actual gpu is just a small processing chip, the heft you see on cards is mostly just cooling. If they can get a really good cooling system in a laptop, which is the challenge, then there's no reason not to put a full gnu inside

Have you ever taken a GPU apart? Its flat and just a handful and chips and would easily fit into a laptop, the only issue is cooling. They are getting around that by increasing the amount of cores and reducing the clock. Will still cool badly and probably throttle rather quickly, but GPU arent thick on their own. Its the heat-sinks and fans that make them appear bulky. Just look at a liquid cooled GPU, thing is as flat as a pancake.

They both have something similar to Intel's Turbo-boost and both the Desktop and Laptop versions have the same "turbo" clock. Base clock is meaningless these days.
