So what's the problem? None but a few basement dwellers on Sup Forums give a fuck about the botnet.

Translation: MS wont write drivers for the new chips in older windows.

i dont want to migrate to this shitty W10 system
i want keep with my glorious W7

The fuck are they reporting this now? this has been known for at LEAST a year. maybe you should've bitched back then when something could've been done.

I give a fuck about the botnet, I like Windows 8.1
I don't really want to buy a new CPU past the current gen stuff because j dislike Windows 10 and I'm sure as hell not going back to Linux as a dominant OS

any chance of Intel and AMD do MS job?
Both gonna lose lot of money if they dont do that

>year 2030
>Sandy bridge will still be okay for daily usage
>still no year of the Linux desktop

before was just a rumor, nothing official

Thanks for this, Microsoft....

If they could purely do it they would.

Also they wont lose shit.

OEMs already force the latest onto customers.

DIYers will either deal with it, go to linux or bsd, or use a older windows at the cost of instability and missing features from their cpu working.

>Implying Chrome won't just kill your SB in a couple years

seems that i gonna need use more google to see Computer Configs even more on the future....

The motherboard would go long before the cpu

>Chrome Kills?

Better i use Firefox... maybe this why my PC died somedays ago...

who the fuck uses chrome

>i dont want to migrate to this shitty W10 system
You don't have to.

>i want keep with my glorious W7
Then just don't upgrade to Zen or Kaby Lake then.

About 60% of the market

as in the CPU will ONLY run windows 10?
or as in windows 10 will ONLY support newer amd/intel cpu's

and why should i care about what normies use

See Youll be able to use linux and other cpus on win 10.

That's irrelevant. You asked who used Chrome and he gave you an answer fucboi

these fucks are wording their articles wrong
typical (((journalism)))

this is the problem

NO NEW BETTER PARTS = NO SUPPORT TO NEW PROGAMS OR GAMES

the PCs are requaring more and more from PCs...

This is a Dark Age of PC Parts....

Nigga people have been using i5-2500K processors for over 5 years now. They have nothing worth "upgrading" to. You'll be fine.

my problem is with Video Cards

PLEASE NVIDIA DONT DO THIS SHIT PLEAS

Yeah well, I have a Q6600 that I've been using for more than 8 years.

Things are a bit different for me.

specialy in games, the games are becoming so powerful that require more power....

Not really. You can play BF4 on an A8 kaveri APU on medium 720p settings just fine. Your HD 6990 is still good for another ~5 years.

Nice to see the nightly clickbait thread reposted yet again.
Also nice to see you tech illiterate children getting riled up over it.

i will enjoy the last cheerful my last happy 5 years of my life before get into the angry and pissful world of windows 10...

You seem very mad. Calm your tits Susan.

well damnit. i'll have to start buying skylake+mobo now to deal with this shit.

>mobo

I'm not really worried. I was already planning on being a late adopter of Zen/Polaris to wait for reviews and fixes. I'll bet every Bison Dollar I have that this gen will be made compatible with Win7 by some 3rd party fix, which will also be perfected by the time I adopt. I can ride that out for a while, and by then either MS will get their shit in order (unlikely), or I'll have had enough time experimenting with another OS to make the jump (likely). I'll probably just have a spare MS system for whatever, and my main system for everything else.

I am, however, getting entirely sick of being shoehorned into what I'm allowed to use and not being able to choose what I want. I wonder if we'll see a shift toward Linux support in the not too distant future if this trend continues.

my old basement odor

and by "win10 only" they mean only win10 out of the other windows versions? they'll still support loonicks right?

Linux is always supported because other wise Microsoft will get ddos'd everyday and cost millions.

>millions

That's like having a hole in my pocket where all my change falls out. Hardly a concern for all the giant bills in my wallet. Besides, what use is their shit page for most people? I only ever go there to download service pack installers and random shit, which is probably more than the average user.

they usually mean their actual servers (where they provide updates, onecloud, outlook etc), not their shitty website servers that no one cares about, websites aren't the only applications on the internet that can be ddosed you fucktard

get a little angrier. maybe you should lay off the caffeine.

Bullshit, I don't believe that. That's just absurd. You're full of shit, OP.

Why would Windows 7 not run on Kaby Lake? The processor is still runs the x86-64 instruction set. What's the worst that could happen? Intel might add more power states that Microsoft won't add support for in an update? Maybe UEFI vendors will remove the legacy boot as well as VGA CSM module needed to boot Windows 7 as UEFI? Intel already removed the EHCI controller from Skylake, yet Skylake runs fine on Windows 7 after installing the USB 3.0 drivers. Intel is still making drivers for Windows 7, why would this be any different for Kaby Lake. Am I just retarded? I see no reason why Windows 7 would flat-out just not run on Kaby Lake.

the same reason AMD cpus dont run on OS X and if they do they barely manage.

because apple doesn't sell hardware with AMD cpu's?

it could be full retarded and for kaby lake it shouldn't apply unless they cuck the current skylake chipsets (H110, Z170, etc.), but for Zen the solution is simple, just make all motherboards with USB 3.0, no PS/2 or 2.0 ports and headers, and never release a EHCI/3.0 fix for w7 and fuck everyone.

Well, you could still install it over ethernet, but with no usb 3 drivers and no physical ports then you're fucked up as you won't be able to use any peripheral if you don't get a usb 2.0 pci-e (as regular pci would be kill) card, and even then you can't be sure it would work.

I hate articles like that. Remember when everyone panicked over Skylake "only" working on Windows 10?
Well, guess what, according to Microsoft Windows 7 also doesn't support Haswell CPUs. It's complete bullshit and every tech "news" site reporting on this shit should die.

Does this mean that it can't run GNu/Linux?

Intel has already said they won't be releasing any Windows 7 drivers for kaby.

They will, only idiots are overblowing it.

There is nothing that "won't" be supported about it from a CPU point of view as Kaby Lake brings nothing new to the table over Skylake.

Lets fast forward to Canonlake where AVX-512 is expected on even consumer hardware - Windows 7 won't support AVX-512.
So a few instruction added to x86 won't be supported by the Windows kernel - that's it.
Cannonlake will still run Windows 7, it will still work with everything upto AVX2.

That's it.

Exactly. Its clickbait.
The only thing missing from older versions of Windows was support for intel's new Speed Shift.
AMD has their own equivalent to this now.

All new CPUs will work on any version of Windows, you'll only be lacking a power saving feature targeted at Ultrabooks.
This thread gets made every single day here, and every single day its filled with anons who are laughably ignorant, completely buying into the sensationalist clickbait. Pitiful for a tech board.

It doesn't mean anything like that at all no.

It simply means support for new CPU instructions won't be backported to older versions of the Windows kernel (the same as in Linux world really...)

Older versions on windows will still work with the newer CPUs - they simply won't have support for nice new instructions, which is fair enough, MS shouldn't be expected to support every kernel version forever.

Its not an instruction set being locked out of an OS, its a method of moving through pstates with more granularity. It needs OS support because its done through a driver layer.
Microsoft actually buckled and said they'd add support for it in Win7/8 anyway.

I guess I misunderstood
Thanks for the clarification

Thing is this time it's not a simple omission of hardware support like XHCI. Microsoft has learned their lesson. They're pulling out all the stops this time and using all their leverage to force intel and AMD to produce something that just won't work with windows 7. It would be trivial for intel to keep making win7 drivers, but microsoft has gotten them to announce that they wont. I completely agree that kaby lake and forward SHOULD be able to support 7 with a little help, but only if processors were allowed to develop naturally. I think there's a good chance this time around that microsoft will pressure the CPU companies into unnecessary physical changes that make the processors completely incompatible with 7. It's absolutely something the would do, and I think they can.

> I think there's a good chance this time around that microsoft will pressure the CPU companies into unnecessary physical changes that make the processors completely incompatible with 7. It's absolutely something the would do, and I think they can.

I think you're a delusional conspiracy theorist.

> It would be trivial for intel to keep making win7 drivers
It would also cost money for no actual reason - the few people still running Windows 7 aren't a reason enough to start a project.

Linux status: KAPUT

And I think you're dumb to call me a conspiracy theorist. You can look at pretty much anything microsoft has done in the last 20 years, and much more so the last 3 years, and it's completely in character for them to pressure processor development to be incompatible with an os they want to be rid of. I seriously don't think they would think twice. Hell a lot of people thought they were probably behind intel dropping the old usb controller standard in skylake. The only question is how willing intel and amd are to make more serious changes this time around, and I bet microsoft would have plenty of leverage to talk them into it.

pcworld.com/article/3112663/software/microsoft-made-em-do-it-the-latest-kaby-lake-zen-chips-will-support-only-windows-10.html

I think you're dumb in thinking Microsoft has any say in CPU development outside ordering custom SoCs for their Xbox and devices divisions.

Microsoft is small beans comparatively now.
They don't have power over anyone, no matter what they'd like.

What's wrong with skylake?

Actually hardware companies often keep making driver updates for older hardware until microsoft interferes. You can see this play out in especially well with old amd gpu drivers. When an OS gets sufficiently old, microsoft stops signing official drivers for it, which causes the hardware manufacturers to stop releasing those driver ports much earlier than they otherwise would. The actual costs involved in developing a handful of chipset drivers here and there would be pretty inconsequential.

Microsoft is still a huge company, and does a lot of business with amd and intel. If you don't think they make some hidden special request here and there in their trade agreements, you don't understand big business very well. If either company REALLY wanted to support 7/8 on kaby, I doubt microsoft could do anything about it, or that they would be willing and able to offer sufficient compensation. But if the cpu manufacturers are already almost indifferent, I could easily see microsoft making it worth their while to introduce one or two specific changes that would be difficult or impossible for end users to bypass. And really amd doesn't even matter, because unless zen is a small miracle I doubt most people would be willing to switch over it.

It's not just the CPU that you'll have problems with, it's the chipset and motherboard makers.

No drivers means nothing will work properly, and if they get the GPUs makers to just make Win10 only drivers down the line... lol

GPT, PCIE SSDs XHCI, and other things are already feeling pretty bandaid fixes.

I have clients running win10 prebuilts but using PS 7.0 and coreldraw 9. Fucking printing companies running ancient pirated copies because they think they only go after the people pirating newer versions.

Printing companies using ancient shit also means the ad companies and other companies that use their services also have to keep ancient software around to make sure that the printing company is able to open their shit.

Adobe maintains decent compatibility but CorelDraw is notorious for breaking shit between versions.

Get it right, you fucking dumbass. No CPU, AMD or Intel, will require Windows 10. There are, however, CPUs that of all Windows versions only Windows 10 will support.

Datamining aside, Windows 10 is a steaming pile of horse shit.

I just bought a high-binned 4790k from Silicon Lottery, guess I made the right call.

>Datamining aside, Windows 10 is a steaming pile of horse shit.

Too right. I get so tired of mentioning that windows 10 sucks because of advertising and forced broken updates, and the way they keep screwing with menus and removing access to settings - only to have someone come along and call me a damn tinfoil.

>if processors were allowed to develop naturally
Yeah, I hate this artificial intervention in the natural development of billions of transistors on a silicon chip. Why can't they just, like, develop naturally man?

I don't know, my fx4350 was a test-tube processor, and it turned out alright.

>If either company REALLY wanted to support 7/8 on kaby, I doubt microsoft could do anything about it
That is very true. Chances are that both Intel and AMD really really DON'T want to support windows 7 because that costs money and windows 7 doesn't have very long left anyway. Aside from idiot Sup Forumsentoomen, no one will run windows 7 on new hardware. Do you think that it's worth it for AMD to spend what little money they have on development of software for a soon to be unsupported OS with little potential gain?

this is one giant hit to linux

Lol I'm running ps7 on Windows 10 too

HAHAHAH I HOPE YOU TINFOIL NECKBEARD FAGGOTS GET ALL REKT I CANT WAIT TILL EVERYTHING GETS LOCKED TO WINDOWS 10 SO YOU HAVE TO UPGRADE OR KILL YOURSELF OMG THIS MAKES ME SO ERECT

I don't want to work on shitty W10
will it be hard to find a Linux processor machine full compatible ?

Same faggotry, different words

>One post gives a logical reason as to why manufacturers don't want to waste their money
>Another calls out tin foil hatters for being idiots
Oh yeah, totally the same. Coincidentally, did you fail English reading comprehension?

Yes, keep blaming AMD and Intel for this instead of Microsoft Pajeet.

Fucking moron.

Read the article its about not sopporting windows 7/8. Or more accurately windows 7/8 not supporting features in the new chips. Linux will continue to support all hardware like it always has.

Normies are nobodies though

Windows NT6.X was a mistake

>extremetech.com/computing/234881-from-this-point-forward-all-intel-and-amd-cpus-are-windows-10-only
This is an embarrassingly terrible news article. Why the fuck did I try to read it?

But all Intel x86/64 are downward-compatible in their base-ISA, are they not? So as long as MS doesnt patch Win7 to suddenly require features that are only available on the new CPUs if they are installed - why would it become incompatible? Software vendors will still compile their stuff to be compatible with older gen chips (like I'm still required to use MSVC2010 to target XP customers), maybe except for some very special purpose programs like hypervisors.

>updated to w10 last week
>bluescreens everywhere
not sure if it's because I used Shut Up 10 to turn off spying or driver problems
using 5960x + gtx1080
no idea what's the problem.
probably gonna downgrade next week if I can't find a solution.

PXE Boot, use Win 10 PE with Win 7 loaded into the installation options, UEFI on but Secure boot off, full compatibility with GPT partition scheme for UEFI cause Win 10 PE basically compatible with everything, use DVD drive on SATA to install USB drivers. ezpz

>more MS FUD

Good job my old PhenomII is still perfectly capable for everything and will be for the foreseeable because i'm not a gaymurr.

>Your HD 6990 is still good for another ~5 years.
No way, even a mid-class card blows it out of the water, like a R9 380 or 970.

...

>the few people still running Windows 7 aren't a reason enough to start a project.
>Win7 >50% market share
>Win10 ~20% market share

Does it look like I give a fuck? I already have windows 10 on my thinkpad.

Gonna buy 2 backup FX chips so i can be sure to run glorious windows 7 for 25+ years

You have that backward idiot. Windows doesn't support them not other way around

That's wrong. It's been official for over a year

Enjoy your 300W consume.
