Why are there so many misconceptions about this laptop on /g ?

Why are there so many misconceptions about this laptop on /g ?
> why there isn't 32 gb of ram?
Because it would drain a lot of power. This is also why 99% of other laptops don't have 32 gb available. Before kaby lake will be here 16 gb are the reasonable max.
>They should have used kaby lake
Intel isn't not even making yet mobile baby lake processors
>Why lddr3 they should have used ddr4 or lddr4
They couldn't have used lddr4, mobile skylake isn't supporting them. ddr4 takes a lot more power(is also cheaper by the way) this is why it shouldn't be used in laptops.
>Low res screen
It's above qhd...
>older MacBook is faster
It's not. New MacBook is faster first benchmark proven this.
>touchbar is a gimmick there shouldn't be any toucher at all
You can buy it without touch bar. Also first reviews of touch bar say it's useful for multitasking. You like to listen to music while coding great now the touch bar can be used only for managing your music and choosing playlist while coding.
>price is bad
yup this is a good argument but hey surfacebook is even more overpriced(it's not justifying apple(seriously fuck this prices) I have written it to these idiots who say that mac is overpriced and surfacebook is not...). Same goes for 4 usb-c ports it's the future and it will be great in two three years but right now it will be painful.

Why does it still have the old and obsolete cowardly 3.5mm jack?

They have used all of their courage on 4 usb-c ports.
But seriously I like this laptop but have to check the butterfly gen 2 keyboard. I heard it's a lot better than gen 1 but still I haven't really liked gen1.

3.5mm jack just screams "old and obsolete". I cannot believe that we are near the end of the current year, and some manufacturers are STILL making devices with the 3.5mm jack.

I mean, like, come on!

Here's something...
Why are they putting gimmicky shit in their products now?
It's still overpriced like shit for just some fancy aluminum and a trash OS.
That much RAM won't drain so much power, hell, I have a Ivy Bridge laptop with shit battery that I put some 8 gig sticks of DDR3 in (Making it 16 gigs) and it didn't harm the battery a single bit.
Not to mention why no active cooling or attempted cooling instead of bare metal to burn your balls off with?
Also, why a trash operating system?
It's a load of lies and trash from Ives and Cook.
And there's no more Apple. This is just

I agree with most of this, but I still don't get why they used Polaris instead of nvidia Pascal

Pascal chips are much more powerful AND power-efficient, and that's what they're looking for, right? Power efficient chips so they can put them into a thin-as-fuck laptop without making it overheat or drain the battery within 2 hours

A lot of the power concerns wouldn't be an issue if apple hadn't reduced battery size in favour of form factor. I can only speak for myself but if I'm going for a work laptop I don't mind it being slightly larger for it to be more fully featured or last longer.

Also, even as a macfag that touchbar is most definitely a gimmick and surprisingly 'unapple' actually hampering productivity rather than streamlining it. It's so bizarre.

I like this laptop. Only thing that kinda holds me back is USB-C, I haven't even adapted to it yet, but I heard many great things about USB-C.

Kaby Lake's ULV processors are already out. Dell and Razer have already releas laptops with them. They should have made the 13 inch w/o touch bar a Kaby Lake model.

>outdated hardware from day 1
RIP apple

>RAM would drain power!
You do realize how little power RAM takes to run, right?
>Intel isn't making them yet!
Then maybe they should have waited just a little bit, hmm?
>DDR4 takes a lot more power
(Citation needed). Some preliminary research actually suggests the OPPOSITE.
>Its above QHD...
Honestly, the resolution is the one valid point, but 2880x1880 is a stupid resolution for a screen to be in the first place. Could you have selected a less standard resolution if you tried?
>Older macbook is faster
Seriously? That'd be sad if it was true.
>Touchbar
Its, uh... context-sensitive media keys. I honestly would have preferred a function row.
>price
>paying more than $120 for a laptop
Enjoy your not-a-T420

USB-C *IS* the future as a universal connector for almost everything.

BUT, unfortunately this is the present, not the future, so there are some early-adopter prices you have to pay.

It's OK for me, because
>there is a USB-C to Lightning cable to connect my phone
>there is a USB-C to DP cable to connect my external monitor
>I only need a USB-A adapter once a week for backups to my external HDD

but YMMV

>and a tras OS
opinion discarded.

Kek razer and dell are retarded these aren't mobile chips. Cannonlake will come in 2017. You will have to change battery on these laptops after each 6 months lel.(but probably they gonna sell because they look good on paper)

ah. Yeah I know about this. All I need is a USB-A adapter for a flash drive and I felt like going full on wireless with my mouse, so I'm going to use a Bluetooth mouse.

agree
agree
agree
16:10 is god tier, man.
you misunderstood: new is faster
about the touchbar, we'll see. I won't be buying another MBP until 4 or 5 years, so I guess I'll know by then.
>paying more than $120
fuck, you were trolling

here's (You)

Where do people reccomend, and is it worth picking up the last gen of MBP? I was waiting for these new ones but I am just disappoint. Never owned an apple product before.

Shall I just go for the surface book/surface pro 4 instead?

No USB
No Magsafe
No SD card reader
No function keys
No HDMI
No good keyboard (now shallow)
No rest for palms (as the touchpad is too massive now.)
No backlit glowing logo
No good battery life (battery smaller now)
No physical Esc key
No user swappable ram
No full bandwidth thunderbolt 3 on right side of 13"

>You do realize how little power RAM takes to run, right?
kek I realize that it's not so little power as you think
>Then maybe they should have waited just a little bit, hmm?
Reasonable I think they wanted to show the MacBook pro even earlier but intel is having hard time(remember that mobile kaby lake should have been already there)
They will probably put just change the specs when cannon lake is finally here.
>Older macbook is faster
Older MacBook is slower have read what there was written? If you don't believe just check jonathan morison video where he has made some benchmarks.
>Its, uh... context-sensitive media keys. I honestly would have preferred a function row.
You still can have it and it's cheaper than the touch bar version.
>price
is shit

Why would you have to change battery?

It's not POSIX-compliant, deal with it.

For some ppl who still don't know. The razer and dell kaby lake is not a new archicture.
read this cnet.com/news/intel-kaby-lake-7th-gen-core-processors-faq-update/
Kaby lake before cannonball is a disaster on laptops that's why apple and microsoft haven't used them.

>Kaby lake before cannonball is a disaster on laptops
The link you just posted says it's not a big upgrade despite being better. How is that a disaster?

lol it is.
you may not believe so stackoverflow.com/questions/5785516/is-osx-a-posix-os

I'm so sorry you had to find out this way.
daniel.haxx.se/blog/2016/10/11/poll-on-mac-10-12-is-broken/

Practically no upgrade. Takes more energy and generates a lot more heat. After nearly 2 years this is skylake successor?
Yes it's an disaster in laptops it more a downgrade than upgrade. This is also why intel is still working on mobile processor they now it's not an upgrade for laptops.

>You can buy it without touch bar
>not trading some bud to Jamal for current model

>usb-c
that's actually the main thing that makes me salty about that machine. macs never had cutting edge high end chips built in, it worked great anyways because of osx. but shitting on every piece of periphery you have is not to justify right now, especially not if you can't even connect the newest flagship phone of the same company that came out just weeks earlier.

seriously, are the iphone- and mac-departments not talking to each other?

Yes, fully agree. I'm on board with USB-C all the way, but if you need an adapter to connect 2 of your main products, they failed

>macs never had cutting edge high end chips

You have to be 18 to use this website.

buy $5 USB-C to lightning cable, problem solved

wew that was hard

it's not like they suddenly added an esoteric serial port that needed a digital-to-analog converter for each peripheral

they added a very versatile new universal port, compatible with a shitload of ports

The only grievance I imagine might be for photographers with SD cards because they need a reader now.

>buy another dongle
Yay.
>they added a very versatile new universal port, compatible with a shitload of ports
You're missing the point. It's not USB-C being bad, it's about needing a fucking dongle to connect an iPhone to a Macbook. Why doesn't the iPhone use USB-C?

>it's not like they suddenly added an esoteric serial port that needed a digital-to-analog converter for each peripheral
I'm sure if they did that, you'd defend it

>Intel isn't not even making yet mobile baby lake processors
wrong, xps 13 is buyable right now with kaby lake 15W processors
which is in the same power range with the skylake in mbp 13
>It's above qhd...
lower res than xps 13
>You can buy it without touch bar.
why cant i buy it with a touch screen?
inb4 ytouchscreen is a gimmick, right...

why is the non touchbar version only has 2 ports?
why are the right side ports on touchbar versions slower?
why downgrade the battery?

>Why doesn't the iPhone use USB-C?
or, the mbp have at least one lightning port since apple was pushing this for years? they even gave two versions of firewire some time to die.

i'm speaking of intel and mobile devices. comparint the old ibm or motorola-chips with intels was a whole other story.

Lightning was pretty much a beta for USB-C.

>Why doesn't the iPhone use USB-C?
iPhones are still their core business and I think they don't want to jeopardize iPhone sales for people who own lightning peripherals.

It's much easier to get new MBP customers (who are already paying a shitload of money) to buy another shitty $5 cable or adapter than it is for them to get millions of iPhone customers to give up their peripherals.

>xps 13
enjoy your bending plastic POS that will shatter if you accidentally drop it on the table from 3 in above

What's your excuse for that abomination of a keyboard?

have you ever tried it?

flexing to absrob shock is smarter than permanent bending

xps is made from the same material as stealth jet planes and formula 1 cars

your macbook is made from the same crap as a frying pan

No inputs and flat keyboard kills it for me.

I have and it sucks

Yep -- I'm the guy you asked.

I blows monkey nuts.

That would all make sense if they hadn't removed the headphone jack already. Do you think people cared more about the charging/data connector than that?

>plastic
I believe you meant carbon fiber.

The keyboard is what will kill this laptop.

If you didn't need a good keyboard, you could just buy a tablet. A *good portion* of the people who need a pro model will do a lot of typing. Think writers who do more than blog, and programmers.

There is no excuse for a keyboard with a half millimeter of travel.

>This is also why 99% of other laptops don't have 32 gb available.

My five year old W520 supports 32GB of RAM. Everyone knows the battery excuse is bullshit.

>surfacebook is even more overpriced

The Surface Book has pen input and can become a lightweight mobile tablet. Which is a huge differentiator if you're a "creative type" that Apple is supposed to covet. Remember, just because you don't see a use for the tech that drives up the price of something, doesn't mean it's useless to everyone.

Likewise, I'm sure there are people who will very much enjoy the touch strip above the keyboard. But I still use programs that rely on the function row.

Dell Latitude has DDR4 -- No 32GB?

> Why don't you accept the bad design choices a good?

Misconceptions pointed out here was not what most people complained about.

>You like to listen to music while coding great now the touch bar can be used only for managing your music and choosing playlist while coding.
haha what the fuck
why would you want to fuck with a touchbar when you can alt-tab to your media player

>> why there isn't 32 gb of ram?
who the fuck ever asks/ed this? 16gb is more than enough for a mobile computer.
>They should have used kaby lake
who asked this?
>>Low res screen
Who fucking said this?
>You can buy it without touch bar. Also first reviews of touch bar say it's useful for multitasking. You like to listen to music while coding great now the touch bar can be used only for managing your music and choosing playlist while coding.
m8 there were already keys on the keyboard that did the same shit that the touchbar shit did

the touch bar IS a gimmick, it doesn't improve the functionality, its certainly not innovative at all

Tell us more about how we just don't understand, OP.

Not him but I have tried that new MBA keyboard and it is WAY too thin, theres no tactility at all and its easy to fatkey other keys because theres so little feedback.

Its on par with touch screen keyboards

This peace of shit is turning me into an android dev.

Apple has finally forced me to make a decent default image of Debian for development purposes. Thinking I'll use MATE as the desktop env.

So much unnecessary time spent on Linux config, such bull shit.

It was funny the first time man, but you just ruined the joke.

Does anyone know if the processor on the MBP without emojibar is different from the other 13" models? Are all of them 15 watt TDP?

OS X turned to shit after 10.6.8

>The basic 13” model uses a 15W CPU, the higher-end 13” model uses a 28W CPU, and the 15” model uses a 45W CPU
anandtech.com/show/10799/apple-announces-4th-generation-macbook-pro-family-thinner-lighter-with-thunderbolt-3-touch-bar

Not like the 28W TDP will be that much more powerful. CPU alone can only use ~20W, so if you don't care about max cpu and max gpu performance at the same time, the 15W won't be much slower. Difference will likely be 20%, certainly not 100% like TDP suggests.

Sorry friend, but we wil escort you out. This is a no-poo zone.

>> why there isn't 32 gb of ram?
>Because it would drain a lot of power.

>Because it would drain a lot of power.
Pure bullshit. You can get 10 hours with 64GB of DDR4.

Aplel used lpddr3 with a 16GiB limit because it was cheap as fuck and you are cucked the fuck out hard.

BTW here are some devices that use lpddr3, which is super cheap SoC ram.

>You can buy it without touch bar. Also first reviews of touch bar say it's useful for multitasking. You like to listen to music while coding great now the touch bar can be used only for managing your music and choosing playlist while coding.

>code monkey coding away
>yay I can change song using a touch screen instead of a keyboard shortcut
>hmm let me go to this variable's definition
>just need to press F3...
oh wait

>cost of making the 13" non-Touch Bar MacBook = $419

>cost of making the 13" Touch Bar MacBook = $493

>cost of making the 15" Touch Bar MacBook Pro = $658

1) Make shit cheap
2) Market shit constantly
3) ?!?!?!?
4) PROFIT!!!

>stupid fucking people will be the death of us all

Where'd ya get the numbers?

I believe it.

They'll be published on Tuesday in a breakdown by TechInsights.

The real joke is that the call it "pro" and the 13 inch only has dual core processors with hyperthreading and no dedicated gpu. That's not pro, that's high end consumer.

>that's high end consumer
i5u doesn't make it high end they slap that shit into $400 laptops.

but the prices are too high , better go with xiaomi laptop if it's available and get linux on it.

I massively agree with the magsafe. The fact that they removed it was unbelievably stupid. I cannot even begin to count how many Macs I've seen be saved by that charger.

Jesus -- who started this thread again?

The rMBP is dead.

Not really trying to defend apple, but the price per model will be a bit higher than that. They, or at least they used to, bin their parts they put into their machines which raises the cost per unit a bit.

> 4 usb-c ports will make sense in 2-3 years
maybe. I don't think so. There will be some new port and mac users will still carry adapters. They like to do so.

>Because it would drain a lot of power. This is also why 99% of other laptops don't have 32 gb available. Before kaby lake will be here 16 gb are the reasonable max.
Literally a spinning HDD consumes more power than 32GB of DDR3L memory. The screen consumes more power.
As well, to not even give people the OPTION is absurd. If they used slots so one could upgrade the unit themselves, versus going the soldered on route (which has no benefit to Apple excepting they get to control your purchasing and upgrading power).
>Intel isn't not even making yet mobile baby lake processors
Can't blame them for this, but perhaps they should have held off on a Major refresh till then.
>They couldn't have used lddr4, mobile skylake isn't supporting them. ddr4 takes a lot more power(is also cheaper by the way) this is why it shouldn't be used in laptops.
DDR4 runs at 1.2v, where DDR3L runs at 1.35v. It's up to 20% more efficient.
>It's above qhd...
Whose complaining about the screen???
>It's not. New MacBook is faster first benchmark proven this.
Whose saying the older ones are faster???
>You can buy it without touch bar. Also first reviews of touch bar say it's useful for multitasking. You like to listen to music while coding great now the touch bar can be used only for managing your music and choosing playlist while coding.
No, you're stuck with the Touchbar on non-13" models. Plus, still, gimmicky. I could use the remote on my headset to control the music (Which is USB Type-A, so I now will need an adapter, too) if I couldn't be bothered to use a hotkey combo, or just go to the music player and change it...

>DDR4 runs at 1.2v, where DDR3L runs at 1.35v. It's up to 20% more efficient.
DDR3L is not LPDDR3 and going by only by voltage is not how it works.

>If they used slots so one could upgrade the unit themselves, versus going the soldered on route (which has no benefit to Apple excepting they get to control your purchasing and upgrading power).
Soldered is way smaller than DIMM-slots and needs less circuits.
Apple's thin designs in fact aren't possible with DIMM-slots.

It's shit. I waited all year only for this to be a complete disappointment. Now I'm just going to wait one or two more months and buy the XPS 15 refresh.

in which use-case do you need 32GiB RAM?

No USB A, escape key or function buttons are reason enough not to purchase a MacBook Pro for 2.5k

They reduced the battery size? Is that true?

That keyboard ... that motherfucking abomination of a keyboard.

(You)

did you ever use it?

those are all new things, for what exactly did you wait a year?

????

Why did I wait for the 2016 MacBook Pro to come out? Because I need a new laptop to replace a 2009 15in MacBook Pro and I expected the 2016 one to not be complete shit like it is.

Yep -- why do you keep asking people that, and how many people need to tell you it sucks?

OP is asking fucking retarded questions. I suspect him of being an apple marketer or just autistic.

Maybe it's just a bot.

see .
for some reason you waited a whole year instead of buying one in 2015.
what was that reason?

>I suspect him of being an apple marketer
those can say coherent sentences, OP can't.

buy the 2015 15' 2700 dollar one.

best laptop on the market, price aside.

Datamine elsewhere you faggot. The 2016 MacBook pros are shit. You guys fucked up.

>You can buy it without touch bar. Also first reviews of touch bar say it's useful for multitasking. You like to listen to music while coding great now the touch bar can be used only for managing your music and choosing playlist while coding.

That's a retarded argument though, multimedia keys are a thing, i can see some use to the bar but i'd prefer if they didnt take a part of the keyboard to shove it in, specially when there's still plenty of space left

Here's why people are saying it's slower:

the new low end Macbook Pro has a 15W CPU, not the 28W that has been standard for 13in Pros since Intel first introduced that model (think 15W ULV + a few hundred MHz + a much better GPU).

So for people who bought a $1299 Macbook Pro last year, they'd have to pay $1799 for the equivalent CPU, one generation later. Yeah, there's an improvement there. But if they buy the "low end" Pro which is STILL $200 more expensive, they get a downgrade, from a 2.7GHz CPU to a 2GHz one. They're basically paying $200 extra for a Macbook Air that Apple was too lazy to design and instead just decided to use the same chassis for Pro and Air, renaming them all Pro, and jacking up the prices accordingly.

It's extremely valid to say that you're getting a slower machine, as long as you make the distinction "per dollar."

My favorite was the extra ram will reduce the amazing 13hours website battery life.

>13 hours of websites
>"Pro" laptop

This thing is just a bigger more connected macbook now.

>Now I'm just going to wait one or two more months and buy the XPS 15 refresh.
Intel has no plans to release any suitable Kaby Lakes within two months.
>No USB A
did Dell confirm that refreshed XPS 15 will have it?

The last refresh was exactly a year ago. It's not wrong to think they'll be out soon.
