Languages for a Stats major to learn?

What are some languages that a Stats major could use on a Resume?

Python and R

this. you could conceivably also show that you know STATA and SPSS but don't waste your time.

also google is back up now OP so feel free to give that a try.

This. Prioritize R over python though

OCaml

R, Python, Julia, C, MATLAB, Mathematica

malbodge

feels bad, man.

Python for easy mode
Octave for hard mode

what's the difference between mathematica and matlab?

> Shitty optimized Octave versus glorious toolboxed faster MATLAB

Mathematica is for manipulating symbolic math, while Matlab is for manipulating matrices with data.

Mathematica achieves a lot more in a lot less code. Crazy learning curve, though.

Python and Scala.

Spanish is always good, but I guess it depends on where you end up working.

Is this show any good?

Is it worth getting Hulu?

No clue, I just found it here.

Matlab

She's still look great if she didn't get addicted to coke and alcohol.

Where do you want to do statistics?

Lots of traditional statistics jobs are heavy on stata, but startups focus much more on python & R. I'd say to get fluent in python & be able to hack something in R, since no one really does software development in R and retains their sanity.

The way her arms appear in that picture reminds me of this girl.

R
Python
C++ and Javascript (because they are lingua franca in their respective domains)

R and Python mostly.
Probably helps to know SPSS, Matlab and maybe Origin Pro.

Julia is the new data science memelang

R is de facto "the statisticians language"

Python's great for scripting other tasks, and can interact with R.

Also, MATLAB is a great program for anything that heavily uses matrices (you won't find a faster matrix-handling program).

Julia is basically "Python, but faster, with MATLAB-like syntax"

I applied for a few stats programmer jobs earlier this year and they all wanted me to learn SAS. R is the standard of course but I didn't hear much about it. Matlab has a few useful applications but is mostly pointless, and if you have to learn it it's easy as shit anyway.

R
Python
SQL
If you wanna work in finance: SaS

Learn SPSS inside and out. Know it well enough that you can whip up most anything you could think of in Syntax.

Then head on over to the Grad Psych department, chat up some of the Social Psych hotties, and start raking in that sweet sweet nerd poon.

Seriously, psych grad students can barely use SPSS. You'll be a god among shit scientists in no time!

Don't bother, learn SQL and SAS.

German.

Julia is my waifu tho
