Is there any reason to get a 144hz screen if you're not expecting to be pushing framerates that high when gaming?

Is there any reason to get a 144hz screen if you're not expecting to be pushing framerates that high when gaming?

I'm looking at 1440p monitors and there's a few decent ones in my price range which are 144hz, but I have a 1070, so pushing high framerates at 1440p doesn't seem totally reasonable

>Is there a reason to have 144 refreshes per second if I'm not going to see anything that requires that many refreshes per second?
HMMMMMMMMM

>he thinks framerates are directly correlated with hertz
Nigger, please.

It is mean overall better monitor. And be you may be be to play that much fps in in future.

Not sure what in my post suggested I think that, did I not make the post prescriptive enough to satisfy your autism?

You're gonna run it at 120 isntead of 144 because both main vendors have huge issues with 144hz on all resolutions, especially AMD

On a 1070 am I really going to be pushing 120 FPS at 1440p anyway? I have serious doubts.

>moar faster means overall better monitor
Then why are high-end graphics workstation monitors still 60 Hz?

The mata nui pic.
I think this was one of the best plot twists and fantasy lore things. And at the same time it was kids toy. Amazing.

I dunno, I'm pushing 120 with a r9 280x at 1080p
Because recorded media will never break 60fps, while CGG can casually jog it to 60 and upwards to 200 in some old games without breaking a sweat
No reason to get higher refresh rate than 60 when your partners in crime have almost nothing that can benefit from it

That said, All the people need is a little push, actually go see what 120hz feels like first hand, then decide if it's worth to buy it. I didn't need that push because I was waiting for commercially availability for a long ass time, and I'm still waiting for 200Hz monitors

Is having a smooth cursor on your desktop worth hundreds of extra dollars?

>I'm pushing 120 with a r9 280x at 1080p
On ultra settings? With modern releases?

120fps on overwatch without shadows, I can easily push 90 on most "modern" releases by disabling shadows

fuck shadows desu

The monitors with the highest quality picture are still 60 Hz.
I'm genuinely about your world view when you judge all hardware by its ability to play proprietary video games.

Overwatch is barely above MOBA tier, c'mon now.

Didn't have any issue calibrating a 120hz compared to 60hz monitors and the fidelty is comparable, if only a little bit brighter than average
I've had several issues with 200-400Hz interpolated TVs tho

>1070
>not enough to push high frame rates

Are you fucking drunk?

On Ultra, at 1440p? Maybe in some titles but 1440p/60FPS is about the sweet spot for the 1070.

All 144 Hz monitors are in disgusting 16:9 or worse aspect ratios.

16:9 is fine you filthy hipster.

Some of us actually work with their computers.

Ultra settings is a waste of resources

9:16 is also an option

>lousy 1440 horizontal pixels
1:1 > 16:10 > 16:9

Depends what games youre playing.

I have a 165hz 1440p monitor, and I get 200+ fps in most games I play....

If you play all the latest new fangled AAA games, then yeah, you probably wont hit high enough FPS to make it worthwhile.

I dunno, that seems like it'd be a mess to use

I-I like... 5-5:4 t-tbqhwy

>5:4
>not even 16:10
