ITT: Your controversial Sup Forums opinions

Only government and education should have powerful computers; all the plebs (ourselves included) should be limited to 8bit machines. All we do is waste the fantastic power he have been granted. Same applies to the web.

As soon as Smartphones get the capability to switch to a functioning GUI for usage on TVs the desktop and laptop market is dead forever (outside of niche enthusiasts).

The next big platform battle will be over power usage, not speed of calculations.

kill yourself

>ITT: shitty, unjustifiable bait

what do you consider powerful?

i wouldn't call my single-cpu, 8320 machine with 20G of ram "powerful" when compared to something like a small cluster of dual/quad cpu opteron boxes with 128G+ ram each

>Only government and education should have powerful computers; all the plebs (ourselves included) should be limited to 8bit machines.
Definitely kill yourself.

What would we possibly gain from this?

I agree with you on a few things here OP. The vast majority of us just shit post and play dumb vidya. Stuff that can be done from much dumber hardware.

Power consumption is quickly becoming a HUGE issue because we just don't use the power we are given in phones and shit.

Once we can truly live the dream of just doing everything on the TV (remember those old TVs with the wireless keyboards in the early 00's that weren't shit? It's still what people want).

The problem with the power consumption thing is that the personal device is such a minor aspect.

The real problem is that: 3G uses something like 15x the power of wifi, and 4G uses 25x the power of wifi; people are consuming media that uses a lot of power to transmit/transport such as HD videos (Netflix, etc.); and the data centres just for holding all this is an insane draw on power.

And with people calling for 4k streaming, it's just going to get even worse.

Streaming is for plebs anyway.

The internet should be limited to professionals only.

The number of bits of the processor only had an impact in the about of ram that it can use. It is completely irrelevant to speed. The architecture and clock rate would actually affect the performance.

if you think you're such a pleb then why do you have such a strong, exotic opinion? by your own terms it's an uninformed opinion

I think they meant as a technological point in time rather than a literal 8bit machine.

>normies literally destroying the planet.

Not even surprised.

>powerful is an absolute term

nah, if you think consumers have powerful computers, you should see what the NSA works with to crack your trucrypt container in a day or less

Works in North Korea.

Don't give that idiot any BOTD, he'll hang you up and strip your flesh off before you can say... anything.

OP stated 8bit machines so I'm guessing 16bit is orders of magnitudes beyond overkill.

fucking cia niggers I swear to god

...

Gee op are you some kinda techno prophet or somethin

>Power consumption is quickly becoming a HUGE

Yeah man my iphone keeps driving up my electric bill.

It actually does drive up electricity bills, just not yours personally:

My controversial tech opinion: iOS and the iPad Pro are not just usable, but highly effective as an ultraportable laptop. It's got good battery life, a great display, a digitizer, a waterproof keyboard, and LTE, and it handles most basic functions very well. What's more, it has all of those for a sub-$1000 price point. I can see how some people would hate it, but for most people, it's pretty excellent.

Video games should be banned immediately. Same as pornography.

Be the difference, throw your PC away and get a Commodore.

>laptop
>closed down piece of shit
That's not how that works.

You don't actually think that; you just think the world would be nicer if not everyone could afford a meme book. Having the government and researchers ban modern computers wouldn't work out if only because not every government would do it.

you're getting my computers from my cold dead hands.

guess i get gun nuts now.

>why do you want a military-grade CPU when you can shitpost from a civilian 8bit machine?

Here's your (You)

32-bit chips maybe but 8-bits were hot garbage even when they were selling "new" (they were outdated toy trash from the start) and couldn't do fuck all but shitty games and basic financial calculations

It might be "closed down", but it's also extremely stable and secure because of that. The iPad is one of the safest, most reliable consumer-grade computers on Earth out of the box.
