Updating bios stuck in %60

Fucking lenovo broke one of my ram sticks because of a bios update
I think the correct title would be 'updating bios stuck AT 60%'
You got what you deserve, in my opinion. Grammar matters.
Why update bios if it already werks?
This
BIOS update isn't going to give you more performance or feature
syntax error suck my dick
>updating bios when all your hardware works properly
>updating bios when no critical vulnerability was found
Found the retard
is dead, fucking dead.
>2016
>no using libreboot
HAHAHA
sucks to be u.
Just buy a new BIOS and solder it back.
Or get a grownup to do it if you can't.
...
>he fell for the BIOS meme
>he doesn't update his BIOS regularly.
>Not having dual bios
Pleb.
>tfw I put off updating my mobo's BIOS because I was afraid of this
I'll keep my DPC latency issues and my working mobo, thank you
>tfw your bios has two (2) clocks
>find a store that sells pc parts
>decide to build a whole new pc
>assemble it all
>wont post
>spend days troubleshooting myself
>give up and bring to yodobashi
>they are at a loss
>more days of troubleshooting
>someone figures out it is because mobo does not support haswell refresh cpus without a bios update (though the box has HASWELL REFRESH SUPPORTED printed all over it)
>buy the cheapest available supported cpu
>start bios update
>it fails
>have to exchange it
>new one finally works
This was my month from hell.
That sucks. Does the motherboard have the bios flashback button or do you actually have to boot the computer to do it?
fuck that sounds awful, that's yet another thing I need to keep track of when I upgrade my CPU and mobo now
Can only flash by going into bios and loading from a USB.
shit that sucks, Id be pissed off, return the board, and if they dont take it back threaten so sue them..
what brand was this? My asus has a button on the back that automatically flashes the cpu with the comptuer off, and since its the chipset running it directly, iirc, I doesnt even need a cpu
Gigabyte.
This was three years or so ago. H97 chipset I wanna say.
It was also a mini ITX which may be why it lacked awesome features like that.
Is that an X38 board? Dude it's not even Core-i lmao. about time you needed an upgrade.
you right now
Oh, I dont know much about the stuff from then. I just recently caved and bought good stuff.
wait
then wait some more
then wait even longer
keep waiting
>147 year old board
>updates bios now
you better have been trying something cool
My old motherboard wasnt compatible with linux. I had to completely shut off acpi and fuck with kernel flags to get it to boot up. Which I didnt figure out until a couple years ago and that was on my own, it wasnt posted on forums anywhere that showed up in a reasonable google search.
I tried several times over the last several years, but at the end its ameribios's fault that I couldnt have used linux sooner.
well shit
no dualbios?
me on the left.
American megatrends was the bios maker
>In July 2008 Linux developers discovered issues with ACPI tables on certain AMIBIOS BIOSes supplied by Foxconn, ASUS, and MSI. The problem is related to the ACPI _OSI method, which is used by ACPI to determine the OS version (in case an ACPI patch only applies to one specific OS). In some cases, the OSI method caused problems on Linux systems, skipping code that was only executed on Windows systems. Foxconn and AMI worked together to develop a solution, which was included in later revisions of AMIBIOS. The issue affected motherboards with Intel Socket 775. Actual system behavior differed based on BIOS version, system hardware and Linux distribution.[25]
Just get software/hardware programmer and reflash it via JTAG.
Also you can try re-flash it with Coreboot/Tianocore just make sure your motherboard is supported.
>Buying cpu just for bios update
Why didnt you talk to the vendor, he might have updraded the bios for you. This kind of service is the only reason to overpay at a local store.
>rog board
>stock cooler
you deserve it faggot
>tfw I just learned that my BIOS doesn't support ATA passwords so I can't use my SSD's hardware encryption properly
What the fug asus
ones looking one way the others lookin the other way
I tried, they wouldn't do it.
The processor was only $20.
And I am not in the states, their prices are damn close to those online for everything except video cards. Being able to ask them to help trouble shoot is worth more than the $10 I would have saved otherwise.
>using faggotory soft any day...
nope
>no dual bios
haha, suck to be you
This.
fuck, just realized I sounded like I was op.
I was replying with an example of a situation where someone might want to update their bios.
Im one the one that said if it werks dont fuck with it.
Later on I got a kernel update or some other update that let acpi work to a certain extent, it was really hit and miss. Im in the habbit now of shutting the computer off at the psu and Im really not sure if thats bad or not.
someone tell me if Im fucking up?
My Haswell-E X99 motherboard had a BIOS update about 2 months ago which provided a CPU microcode update and boosted my DDR4 memory read/write speeds by 10-15%.
So a BIOS update can give performance boosts if it's also including a CPU microcode update which has the potential to effect performance.
Not all BIOS updates have CPU microcode updates, and not all microcode updates give performance advantages, but it does happen.
BIOS updates for my machines have included several features.
I hope you learned a valuable lesson user, SSD can't ever be encrypted properly nor can data ever be wiped off it entirely
>you can and should be updating microcode without a BIOS update
OPAL SSD can.
say that to the detectives that have been mulling around my house for a week. i use all spinning drives, all my data was shipped off to a VPS host in my ex's name long ago. the one drive I couldn't DBAN 7-pass we took to the driving range and shot a few times, then took to the shooting range and shit on a few times
...literally how do you update your microcode without updating the BIOS. Tell me one single way.
>>you can and should be updating microcode without a BIOS update
Uhhh how? I have a socket 2011 CPU and the only microcode updates i've ever installed were through the BIOS.
You can in linux, but X99 support in linux is so garbage and the fact it doesn't have an iGPU so you have to use a dGPU which suck ass in linux, means 90% of people will only be getting CPU microcode updates through the BIOS updates.
not that dude but you guys are seriously triggering the SJW debianist in me
wiki.debian.org
>Processor microcode is akin to processor firmware. The kernel is able to update the processor's firmware without the need to update it via a BIOS update.
Lift the chip
When did Sup Forums stop understanding technology?
addressed here
Sure it's possible, but the VAST majority of people will only be updating via BIOS updates. Further as mention X99 linux support leaves a bit to be desired.
muh dick
