Why does Sup Forums hate Arch so much?

I find it comfty and pacman/AUR makes setting it up much easier

Arch is great once you set it up properly.

Arch Linux: So simple even a Trump supporter can understand it.

Because Arch is a shitty Gentoo
Like Pepsi is a shitty Coke

It's a waste of time. If you need an OS to be productive you should use something that will not break after a week: debian, ubuntu, fedora, opensuse etc. If you really want to waste your time - LFS, at least you'll learn something.

Running a bunch of prechewed commands from the arch wiki and customizing your leet tiling wm doesn't make you an advanced user.

what's this music player ?

AAE

>AAE
Do you have any link for it ?
Couldn't find anything, that's Adobe Audio Experience right ?

Ain't that the truth. It can be a bit daunting to set up compared to most other distros, but once you get it up and running it's easy to keep running.

Though I'd say it's great from the get-go since one of the advantages of Arch is how much you're able to customize it, from the ground up (as in, the reason why the setup is what it is).

Make America cuck again

Windows will never be this kawaii

If you're running a server or need your computer for work or to be otherwise rock solid, Arch isn't the right distro. But honestly, it has been overblown how prone to breaking it is. It doesn't really break by itself, usually it's more about the user biting more than they can chew. I have first-hand experience of this. Once I got accustomed to it and actually started reading stuff up before executing commands and using AUR, it's been really stable.

>having to install everything from base up is a waste of time
you can do that on debian/ubuntu/etc if you want anyway
>having to manually install all network packages / connect to the internet is a waste of time
(ofc if you dhcpcd doesnt work out of the box, basically on all of my pcs)
>having to manually config xorg or startx or config lightdm is a waste of time
(also i don't like it when pulling xorg with nvidia drivers doesn't pull TWM which is included in the default startx config and therefore my startx do not work somehow)

The amount of small bullshit i had to deal every time i installed something new on arch was too much for me.
And arch was my 2nd distro of choice, i really liked it but when i got no problems i got tired trying to figure out why i cannot mount usb drives with write permissions in the file manager.
I came back occasionally, just to fight with startx every time.
Don't get me wrong, if you need to have the newest pacakges installed with your package manager i guess arch is really good, but i prefer debian testing, where i can configure basic things with few check boxes and not bother with em later.
Also if you want a minimal, build from base up system because "muh bloat" you're better off using gentoo

It's maki. It's disgusting, not kawaii.

because gentoo exists

Last time I checked, Sup Forums loves Arch as much as it hates it.

If the install is a waste of time, just use Antergos or something.

Problems are unavoidable because of the bleeding edge, straight from the upstream nature. Stability is important for everything, from enterprise servers to HTPC's. If things break then the distro is shit. Yes, sure, you can avoid most of the problems by reading news and doing other precautions. But you shouldn't be doing that just to be able to use your computer most of the time. That's why it's a waste of time.
Also AUR is a security hole waiting to be exploited.

i've used the same installation of arch for years and it's never broken due to an upgrade

And you had zero inconveniences that you had to fix manually?

you mean neo-Sup Forums
classic Sup Forums didn't use distros with cucks for devs (see )

i had to fix a graphics driver problem once, but that was due to me using an alternate kernel and had nothing to do with updating normally

>implying the average Sup Forums user knows how to install arch

How often do you think Arch is breaking, exactly? Since you seem to be under the impression that Arch is broken most of the time. Have you actually used it yourself? I can't personally remember the last major issue or breakage from an update, at least no one that affected me.

There's one or two inconvenient little breakages a year from my experience, but nothing that has affected the whole system or has prevented me from logging in or stopped X from working, for example. The latest thing was that I had to update a package using --force flag, but that's it. It didn't prevent me from otherwise using Arch (in this case doing my school work). It just kinda complained when trying to update. That's all. I can't really remember the last time I had any issues prior to that.

Dotfiles?

Sup Forums Likes Arch and Ubuntu

Recently there was a change in package that required you to use --force flag to update it nothing really beyond that If you're looking for a distro that requires you to do NOTHING then Arch (or any other "advanced distro") might not be your thing

Where do you find AAE ?

Cannot find AUR pac google etc

bc they are uncapable idiots who dont know how to install it and hate it when they should really hate themselves(at least those ones who already dont hate themselves)

>lists.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-general/2015-July/039443.html
Can you be nice and explain where to find that audio player?

nobody ever answers .

It's probably winamp with a skin

mediafire.com/folder/l006c4e3924hq/Rice

Stop living in the paleolithic age. All I see there is a user being told to fuck off to another distro if he doesn't like it.

Systemd has had zero effect on what I use my machine for.

Arch has been circle jerked in desktop threads and the like for at least the last 6 years, so it's not like it's a passing trend.

It was the dejavu fonts btw, not a big deal at all.

Probably riced ncmpcpp

Yeah I asked randomly for a few days and never reply. so not leet enough I guess oh well.

It's google play music mini player (a chrome "app") with a riced css.

If you're comfortable in the cli I wouldn't even call it daunting anymore. It's great desu.

no it's not

It's foobar with a skin

it's winamp through wine with a custom skin

It's actually riced mpv

it's itunes miniplayer

>Why does Sup Forums hate Arch so much?
Don't hate Arch; just the dweebs who have to tell you they use it.
It's worse than vegans. You can always tell a vegan but they'll tell you first.

>Like Pepsi is a shitty Coke
>/threading yourself
lol

1. systemd
2. no separate /bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin
3. built to be bleeding edge which makes rollback not impossible but a pain in the ass
4. the devs are complete autists and the typical user suffers from some kind of unbearable faggotry

I had Arch for 2 years almost without breaking (my former computer got stolen, and I bought a second-hand ThinkPad, both running Arch), and it made me familiar with cli and English technical doc (I'm not a native English speaker).

Though I could not look at a physics formula without feeling anxious two years ago, I'm looking into studying mathematics next year.

Gentoo Linux, Slackware, or LFS will teach one how computers work more in details, but this distro (along with Ubuntu or Solus) can be really useful to some people.

Kernel firmware broke one month ago, I've been running Ubuntu on a USB drive since I fixed it thanks to a pre-loaded kernel in the minimal distro installer and pacstrap last week-end. Otherwise I never had a problem.

The scrollbar is the dead giveaway. It's chrome.

it's not

Maybe if you used your machine for more than just editing your i3 config file and shit posting you might see a few more.

So it's troll fake shit or you are too cool to say what it is? I don't get it.

it's not finished and i don't have permission to distribute it, but everyone in this thread is wrong as to what it is

Okay. At least some honesty. thanks.

sorry, adobe is very serious about their ndas

How often do you think Arch is breaking and have you actually used it yourself? I'm asking again since it seems like you forgot to answer that kinda crucial question.

Also, what exactly did break for you and why? The last thing that "broke" for me (eh, I guess) was ttf-dejavu which was fixed by using --force flag. Can't remember before that. That's why I'm interested to hear what exactly broke for you. Also, I'm using Arch for general internet browsing and media stuff daily and probably once every two days to do school work on (mostly LibreOffice, sometimes Octave and often image editing). Doesn't seem to break. What are you doing on your Arch install if it is breaking constantly?

I'm asking again because I'm honestly puzzled if you're actually constantly managing to break Arch or just repeating something you saw other people saying for fun. I'm trying to think what you could be doing (besides "editing your i3 config file") that'd end with a broken system most of the time and I can't really come up with anything aside from purposefully breaking the system or something like that.

don't hate it but I need a GUI for installing AURs, like pamac-manager. Otherwise I'm fucked

wow user. that was my only issue in ages 2 days ago too and that was the fix. I thought it was just me lol

I thought I goof'd somehow

tfw installing Arch on my big rig tomorrow

Using yaourt is pretty straight forward. If you are using AUR you should know enough to be able to skim through the PKGBUILD file anyway.

I don't feel like doing that which is why I like GUI programs

download snapshot
extract
cd into the folder
makepkg -i

2 clicks, 2 terminal commands

Reminder to edit your makepkg.conf so the packages you build are custom tailored to your processor.
CFLAGS="-march=native -mtune=native -O2 -pipe -fstack-protector-strong"
CXXFLAGS="-march=native -mtune=native -O2 -pipe -fstack-protector-strong"

does it automatically update with Syu? Is it easy to remove it?

TORILLA

It doesn't automatically update, but automatically updating AUR packages is probably not the best idea. Removing it is as simple as pacman -Rsn.

A GUI program doesn't make sure the package thrown together by some rando isn't going to root your machine or wipe your drives

Yes, you only need to know three options S to install, R to remove and Syu to upgrade

to be fair I wouldn't know that with or without the GUI, I never read the config files

Wow, dude. Thanx for that. I was considering Arch, but no longer.

Leave here and never come back

your a faggot

go fucking die

no bullying in itt thread pls

weird, I didn't experience any of that.
10.1.16 build automatically dhcp my wired connection, and wifi-menu is really easy to use.
There is an xorg package option to install literally everything in it so you don't need to remove those last 3 lines from xinitrc
There are 3 levels of desktop environment packages you can install with different included programs, utilties and configurations (lthat include networkmanager lightdm and its config)

I recommend pacman -Ss a certain thing so you can pick the bundle that's right for you
