Send it back or enjoy pic related

Refund and get an ASUS or Zotac.

Take that shit back.

Then get AMD.

nay good sir

Refund it, don't take the risk. EVGA need to learn a lesson from this and every person that doesn't RMA the card is letting them get off easy

Well okay, is the Zotac one the best performing one that doesnt break 660 dollars?

>inb4 le watercooling meme

Pretty much, the AMP cards are great.

I dont really hear people talk about the other coolers like Gainward or PNY, Palit, iChill or Galax, are those worth looking in to?

I heard good things about Palit and Galax, not sure about the others.

I think I may get one of these

You can also send her to me.

Otherwise, keep her. EVGA will at least replace burnt parts.
Otherwise get a Zotac AMP, but not Gainward/Palit. The Zotac cards are fast and have good warranty, but they are louder.
Gainward is a shit company that wouldn't replace your parts if they were burnt, google Gainward stickers warranty. Inno3d seems quite good, but 2 980s died from that brand, also my friends Inno 780 died early. The coolers are quite good.

If you're looking for burn proof VRMs think about Gigabyte, they use heatpipes and a different layout with more phases than reference, at least in the previous generations.

I'm using an EVGA GTX 1070 that isn't the FTW version. It's samsung. Should I be worried?

What about Galax or PNY?

No because Samsung never had any bad press about their products exploding

refund, obviously

I don't know about PNY, but I think Galax is OK. Dont expect superior hardware or support. Like Gainward those cheaper brands usually have cheaper support or none... But this also applies for ASUS, their support is pretty shitty and takes long (at least here in Germany). EVGA replaces defective hardware in a few days.

>every unit is defective
tell that to my EVGA 1070 running at 2.1 Ghz
Im getting the pads just I can reduce my temps even more.

Send it back! Get something better with the money.

yolo same here not even putting the pads or updating the bios.

You actually get better performance just from overclocking your vram

I have a 700mhz vram overclock and 100mhz gpu overclock

None of the other companies have the VRM covered or at least not completely. Sounds more like EVGA cheaped out on their VRMs than anything and are now trying to cut corners more by trying to put a band aid on the problem.

The Pascal series OC like shit, every card does 2000 MHz and often 2100, +6-800 VRAM clock
And still stays cool!

>something better for the money

such as?

what are you trying to say?

Its only the FTW Editions that have this problem right?

I think the fan on my EVGA 970 doesn't work.
I know it's only supposed to use one usually, but I've literally never seen the other one spin ever.

>imgur.com/a/XGgn6

here you go nigga. switch out that evga for any other brand. they didn't put any thermal pads cuz they wanted to save a few cents per card. even with the thermal pads their vrm's still run hotter than other brands.

Warranty it fgt

No, it's specific to the ACX cards. Which means all of them except hydrocopper, reference/founder's, and hybrid cards.

I'm not getting rid of my 1070 any time soon.....

just jump the evga ship, my friend

I'm thinking of getting a 1070. But I can't decide on the brand. I'm between Asus or Gigabyte.

whats wrong with it?

Zotac or bust
AMP cards are great

I've always seen Zotac as a cheap-o side of the spectrum. I might give it a try.

I thought my thread title and description made it clear that I was already aware of the issues with EVGA's 1080, and yet everyone keeps linking me imgur collections that I've already seen. More just asking if holding on to it and getting the thermal pad or just getting a different 1080 is better

Apparently, 1080 and 1070 have overheating issues and few cards had VRAM burn. So, EVGA are giving (free?) fix for these cards.

Not to imply Zotac can't have good cards, but their 1070/1080 cards have a very relaxed fan profile in relation to their cooler--where most cards are in the low 70's, Zotac's AMP series was in the 80's.

I also heard Asus had issues with their initial batch of cards--I'd stick with either Gigabyte or MSI.

Stick with the G1 line though--I bought their super-ultra-gaming edition, and the quality control couldn't be worse--bent fins fucking everywhere.

ye i know about that but whats wrong with the card in the pic?

Its a picture of the one I got. Nothing is wrong with it yet but I don't plan on risking it, not at least without first getting the thermal pad. Although I'm leaning more towards just getting a refund

Wish I had some info on user experience with PNYs 1080 and other lesser known after market cooler designers

so you telling me the gtx 480 house fire meme actually came true in the newest model? i waited years for this to finally happen. top fuckin kek

Closed loop GPUs are pretty good for normies that don't want to do a watercooling setup themselves.
Temps are amazing too.

They are consistently the cheapest models I can find. There is probably some catch, either they break too easy, or they are noise or they get too hot, or a mix of that.

God you're retarded. This has literally nothing to do with core temperatures. It's the VRMs and VRAM that are running extremely hot, neither of which have temperature sensors on Nvidia cards. These cards are inherently defective due to a design flaw, and yours is no different. Unless you're breaking out a thermal imaging camera, you have zero idea how hot anything other than the core is running, i.e. the only fucking bit on the whole card actually touching the cooler.

How lazy do you have to be to not even update the BIOS?

Asus dont fall for the Zotac shit card

Literally all the BIOS does is crank up the fan speed, because that """""fix""""" costs EVGA nothing and fuck your ears. You can do the same thing in any overclocking program like Afterburner.

>paying premium for ASUS ROG shit

kys

idk about you guys but I just bought this baby for $100

I'm pretty pleased with it for now I think I'll stick with it till the 980ti comes down in price in 2 years.

I had a zotac. Theyre bloody brilliant cards for the money.

Thing is, they cost the same as the other brands last i saw. Still pretty good, underrated cards though

Send it back for a full refund or threaten to sue them if it causes a fire. Teach EVGA a lesson for jewing their customers for the last time.

So... will EVGA ever cheap out on memory modules again? They will have to cut costs somewhere else, because this damaged their reputation for the foreseeable future.

literally fixable by just adjusting the fan speed curve
it's the age of the Zotac now, you can't stop it

Jesus, that's bad. Will EVGA ever recover from this ? Good thing they have good costumer service, everyone who got cucked by them will make good use of it at least

Got mine exchanged today.
