Why would I spend my money on cloud storage when I could get a 2tb external drive for about $60-$70 that fits in my pocket and works with just about every PC on the planet, without the need for network access?

Personally I would never upload any sensitive information in any imagineable sense of the word to a cloud service.

I'm not paranoid, I just like to write my own software for simple stuff like file hosting. I'm working on a music player rn, which runs off of my personal server. I use it for music I can't find on Spotify or Google play or anything.

Similarly, I want to work on an interface for hosting my other files as well, but this will be a bit more complicated because I don't want to store them in an open directory, but instead in a database

Is a raid with flash drives a bad idea?

USB Flash drives are ridiculously cheap now. I can buy 32GB sticks for just under $5 now. I feel like I could buy a few of those, put them in a RAID configuration and I wouldn't lose data if any of them died unexpectedly.

Why do you need secure backup of something that is freely available online after one Google search? Cloud services are using - believe it or not - ClamAV to stop spreading malicious software. If you have problem with that, backup your stuff on your shitty hard-drive.

I just know how to calculate ahead and concluded that you have to be a stupid fuck to pay monthly to an unstable service which unlocks more potential access and failure risks,
than to buy a cheap HDD enclosure filled with HDDs for backup, in addition to one external HDD as an active device for use, at home.

In addition to that, an HDD cost is either constant or getting lower,
while a cloud service cost is always privy towards fluctuations which go to the harm of the users since their data is in the hands of the one profiting and they can't do anything about it.
So you are basically also a cuck for using cloud.
