First for /ZenIsComming/

Buying new PSU and GPU tonight when there's no delivery costs on mindfactory.

Is a semi/full Modular PSU basically required for M-Itx builds? They cost much more than normal PSUs and I'm on a pretty tight budget.

pcpartpicker.com/list/VgNX2R
Is 550 watts enough for this?

unless you want cables errywhere, yes.

yup. the AMP! Extreme draws 250 watts max, so you even still have about 200 watt buffer left with a 550W psu

Depends on the case. If you want something roughly shoebox-sized then pretty much yes. You can usually stuff longer cables in there but they might mess with the airflow or cause your side panel to bulge out.

Neat. I have that PSU and the 0 RPM mode on it is amazing. Coudnt get it to move even with prime95 + valley benchmark at the same time.

I was thinking of getting either the Phanteks Enthoo or the Thermaltake V1, will I need a modular PSU for either of those?

Is the Asus PCE-N15 a decent wireless adapter? It's currently $15 on Amazon with a rebate, but for every review that says "4/5 pretty good" there's another that calls it a slow piece of shit that constantly drops its connection.

I don't know a goddamn thing about networking, is this thing alright?

This is what it'll look like with a nonmodular PSU. This one uses a 900W one though, a more reasonable 500ish watt PSU will have slightly less cables.

So it'll be snug and might not be pretty but it'll fit just fine. The whole "mitx requires nonmodular PSU" rule is for qt small boxes like DAN case. A shrunk-down proper case like those two should have enough space to tug cables away.

Alright, thanks

tfw want to buy a 1070 but just can't justify spending so much $$$$

Wait for vega. AMD usually has more reasonable prices.

Sorry, can't wait any more. I'll buy a 480

Vega is coming at start of 2017 though, so a few months. There are rumours about RX 475 & 485 coming soonish too.

sorry I need new GPU now. If the 485 and Vega will be significantly better and at the same price level as the RX, I'll buy either then.

"wait few months" is a largely useless advice. There's always new graphics cards coming out. You buy one in your budget, then when you can't play games with it any more because it's too slow and outdated, you buy another one.

Wireless connections is worse than any landline, even with a piece of shit Realtek 8111G NIC.
No matter how close or unobstructed you are to the wireless access point, you'll never get anywhere close to the full advertised speed of the router or wi-fi card. And it is affected by humidity, so on a rainy or foggy day you can actually drop packets with alarming frequency like the USPS. Just drill some holes in your wall, push a patch cable through, and crimp the ends with RJ-45 connectors.

Are Asus motherboards safe? If there's one thing I know it's that I don't want to deal with their support. I originally had the EVGA classified/FTW-K in mind but after the fiasco of their cards catching fire decided to switch to Asus.

asus gpus are ok but nothing special

850W is overkill unless you want to burn even more money and energy by going SLI (which is useless unless you do rendering)

Is the Zotax the better card?

the Zotac has problems with cooling the VRM.
I'd go with MSI, always a safe choice

It's alright if you aren't going to connect through brick or concrete walls.

AMD doesnt have anything that'll compete against 1070 at the moment. So if you want 1070 but don't want to pay extra to the green jew then waiting for vega is not that bad idea. Same thing with Zen.

But yeah 480 is pretty good for it's price. If one can't wait any longer then buying it is not a bad idea.

What? ROG Strix is always at top-three in benchmarks. It runs quiet & cool and the factory OC is very close to what you can get with manual adjustments.

Looking good. That motherboard is good, don't bother with more expensive ones unless you need additional features.

Learn english, dumbass.

Are evga superclocked 1070s good? Or is the heating problem an actual thing still? Ill be buying fron amazon btw

all the evga coolers suffer from overheating

Should I get a 450w semi or a 500w for an i5 6500 1050 ti build?

400w is way enough, even with upgrades

just make sure its a high quality psu

What would be a better option? Preferably black or black/white

MSI, Gainward / palit (if you have them available), ASUS. Zotac

Are there any better 7200 rpm drives than WD blacks?

Reposting this from the last thread because still on the fence. Which one of these 3 GPUs should I buy? Or are there any similar-performing options for the same price/cheaper? Intend to use this for gaming and emulation (including PS2 emulation) on a 2 moniter setup.

Currently leaning towards the 1060, unless you guys can convince me otherwise. Will decide by the end of today.

which ~500W power supply can you recommend for 5-80 $/€

yes, 5400rpm wd greens

unironically

Just hire out a masonry drill get a bit from the hardware store.

If you're in germany: Corsair Vengeance 500W

DONT BUY AMD WHEN YOU HAVE MULTI MONITORS

they eat a whole shitload of power in dual and more monitor usage

forgot pic

Literally what the fuck. I wanted to get a Zen + Polatis/Vega build soon.... I have three monitors......

Too many, what do you want, bronze/gold, cable management?

overall best package, but I'd appreciate it if it were relatively silent, and I think I can live with bronze
I heard corsair had some problems, people advised me against it. I am in Austria yea but idk how none of our websites have a good best buy pick and american ones are useless to us.

I want a very basic headless linux server for personal projects in my spare time. How does this look?:

Trust me, four cores will help immensely with even light Linux servers.

Bumping this because I want more answers.
Should probably mention that I'm not planning to OC anything, and the 1060 is a MSI Amor.

Just bought an MSI Twinfrozr 1070 for 450€. Hope it'll be worth it.

get the 1060, it's a bit slower in some games but way enough for playing and emulating shit.

Looks decent, no idea how much you want to spend but here's a better solution still under $200:

Is the i5 6400 good for a budget build or should I just keep the 6500? I could probably get a 8gb 480/6gb 1060 with the less money of the 6400.

6400 shouldn't bottleneck either of those cards I don't think

Good, I'll get that then.

the difference between the 470 and the 480 isn't great, that could lower costs more if you feel like going that wta

I'd like to try to get this down another 200$-300$ if possible.

pcpartpicker.com/list/pTd4NN

1. no i7, you don't need it
2. get the i5-6600
3. overclocking is dead since haswell refresh. by the time you need it, you can already buy a new PC
4. likewise, jsut get a H170 instead of a Z170, since you're not gonna overclock (its a waste of time)
5. what do you need a full tower for? get a fractal define like everyone. but since you already bought it...
6. scrap the 850W PSU. You don't need it, unless you do SLI-shenanigans. 550W is way enough.

WD blue >>> WD black since years

My God their logo is in comic sans. No wonder their shitty school got shot up in the 90s, they were practically asking for it.

Mind clarifying?

I'm not going to be able to get a new PC for a long time after this, but I have like 3000$ I am legally obligated to use up by the end of the year so I'd rather get more then what I need now to last me longer, so i'd like to stick with the 6700k

>4. likewise, jsut get a H170 instead of a Z170, since you're not gonna overclock (its a waste of time)
Do you have a specific suggestion on which h170 board then?

>6. scrap the 850W PSU. You don't need it, unless you do SLI-shenanigans. 550W is way enough.

Even if I plan on adding another SSD and HDD to this in a year or two?

Also, I fogot to ask, are any of the current sales./deals on these parts worth jumping on now rather then waiting for cyber monday, provided I go with these parts?

the 390$ for the 1070 seems pretty good to me in particular.

>Do you have a specific suggestion on which h170 board then?
Gigabyte, Asus, ASrock, they're all good

>Even if I plan on adding another SSD and HDD to this in a year or two?
Yes, there's not much power draw added. An SSD pulls like 10 watts, as do HDDs

>EVGA
only good if you like your home to burn down and claim insurance for it

basically the platter size is most important for the speed, the "5400" rpm isn't actually 5400 but power adaptive, so it can still peak quite high under load, so it's just as fast, quieter, cheaper, more reliable, uses less power

in every category the 1tb+ platter power saving drives are preferable

dunno about the very most recent blacks, but an ssd cache will do more for perf than any rpm ever will anyway for cheaper

fuck off to your containment board

How did I do for my first ever pc build?

>i5 6500
>RX 480 8gb
>8gb DDR4 (plan to get 16 eventually)
>250gb SSD + 2tb HDD
>650 watt PSU if I ever decide to buy another 480
And I know an aftermarket cooler wasn't necessary with the i5 6500, but it's quieter, looks better, runs lower temps and I'll have it for the future

As long as it has the wireless connections you wan't and isn't the most extreme dirt cheap usb adapter you'll be fine. Everyone knows wireless is slower than wired by quite a lot. The only people that post negative reviews on those are people who expect their same wired performance through 6 walls and multiple floors of concrete and are pissed when it isn't.

I just got a TPL-link pci card like that for about the same price and it's been performing faster than the built in wifi on my laptop so you should be fine

I looked into it and all cards shipping after Nov 1st already have the bios update and thermal pad applied, so i'm not concerned.

Is having an intake fan only a centimetre above your CPU cooler a good idea? I'm debating whether or not to just leave the case fan off entirely. Fan stacking doesn't do much, as far as I'm aware, but I'm really no expert on airflow.

you need to balance the intake and out fans, intakes are only really necessary if you have a lot of airflow, underpressure (more outflow) attracts more dust but will sorta vacuum up all the hot air inside, overpressure repels dust but is more likely to create stagnant pockets

pcpartpicker.com/list/YJVqbj
How does this look?

What the fuck, that's at my high-school in Montrose Colorado. Not actually columbine where the shooting happened.

>Mini ITX case
>1070 with 30cm length
That only fits when you remove the HDD cage

Also the Noctua doesnt fit in it

What do you lads think of the fractal design 2300? The define s is what i was looking at, but the 2300 offers more hdd mounts, and room for an optical bay.

> (You)
>Also the Noctua doesnt fit in it
pcpartpicker.com/b/bBpbt6
The NHD15 does, and I switched the gpu to the AMP! Edition from Zotac.
pcpartpicker.com/list/vZRp3F

looks cheap. And like it has no dust filter for the sideways fan holes.

The Define S is a much better offering, with actual dust filters and a plug for the sidewall fan mount which you are never gonna need anyway.

Does the 304 have a sideways mount for your SSD? Not sure how it's gonna fit in there otherwise. Maybe you can remove the HDD cage partially only.

funny you should said that, because that girl most likely killed herself or was sent to a mental clinic

It probably says on fractals website, and if not I can just tape it to the side or something.

Looks pretty sexy user

I'm using a case designed for positive pressure, it's meant to have all fans pulling air in.

Hey guys, I got a build here, got a few questions
au.pcpartpicker.com/list/v2GmxY
1. Is buying an operating system completely necessary or can I pirate one? Will it fuck my shit up?
2. Is it worth buying an optical drive? I consume most of my media over the internet but is it worth the extra money to buy one just in case?
3. Is my build okay overall? Aiming to get ~60fps in modern AAA titles on max settings.
Thanks in advance, I've got some rare pepes I can trade for good advice

okay guys, I have no idea what I'm doing.
I currently have a GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G

Now I need pretty much everything else. Although since I have 16GB of RAM currently, and a PSU, I pretty much just need a mobo, and cpu/cpu cooler (for now..).
I hear that the i5-6600K 3.5GHz quad is pretty good, but then what about a cooler, preferably a water one?

and then are there any good mobos that have several usb ports and not just like 3?

I pretty much only use my optical drive for watchin' blu-rays. Flash drives are everything nowadays, to me at least.

There are better GPUSs than the MSI, a mATX midi is way to big for ITX, rest is ok.
1. Pirate
2. It's like 20-30 kangaroos, if you need it, buy it but keep in mind it will limit your choice of cases.
3. If 1080p, yes.

>There are better GPUSs than the MSI,
like?

Need to keep it under 1200€, buying from Spain, wondering a build like this one:

pcpartpicker.com/list/KqDbkT

Opinions?

looks good

Zotac, Palit, Asus and EVGA, read they fixed the problem with explosive VRAM.

How are they better?

Higher clocked, better cooling and depending on where you live cheaper.

>better cooling
Proofs?

You can do much better than this.. Why no 850, why the meme mobo, why 32GB (if only gaymin get 8 or 16).

Google it or wait until later, i'm on mobile.

if in spain why no using the espania version of the site?

MSI is a sensible choice 2bh

Never had a problem with their stuff

okay so i'm using a guide in the OP
pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbg/saved/NCbjXL
and i've hit a major snag: the motherboard is too long for this case, meaning the PSU and the motherboard can't fit in at the same time
am I doing something wrong or am I just a fool for trusting the guide as-is?

fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/jNq64C

is it shit?

no looks good
