Tfw fell for the 16 GiB of RAM meme

>tfw fell for the 16 GiB of RAM meme

does this never get old for you?

it's not a meme

>ohnoes, I could have used that five bux to buy a taco
Here is your (you).

laugh hard at 16 fags all the time
too much for normies, not enough for power users
what's the use case here?

>oh no I spent ~30 dollars on something and it wasn't as good as I was expecting.
How will you ever recover?

>he fell for the GiB meme

>tfw fell for the don't kill yourself meme for another day

Why are people so butthurt over having 16GB of RAM?

>using less than 8GB most of the time
>whenever it goes above that I don't have to resort to fucking swap bullshit

Also RAM is cheap as fuck, if you can't have at least 16GB you're a poorfag.
The same with bigger than 250GB SSDs, you're just fucking jealous of using 1TB SDDs for storage because fuck ancient spinning disks

This. Thirty-two is the way to go. I break into a panicy sweat when I hit 11GB, with only 16GB. I'd be swinging in my hammock, with 32GB.

>mfw I have 32G, just so I can have 16G for both my Linux host and Windows guest

>having unused RAM

literally pointless

Something that cost money and you dont need cant be "cheap"

>tfw fell for the 4GB is enough RAM meme

Stop running Botnet Chrome

>A nuclear aircraft carrier being sold for $19.95 isn't "cheap" because I don't need it
Nice logic there m8

...

>implying it isn't used for caching

You know how I know you're using firefox?

>15.9gb

You got scammed bro

>tfw fell for the computers meme
I could do other things now

>will never reproduce because I'm too much into computers

>mfw That missing bit of ram was probably replaced with some epoxy and a bolt.

>getting raped by the port fees
>leting the "investment" rot away because dont have maintenance money

Retard/autistic doesnt do fair to you...
You are a miracle.

>could be out with friends now but too beta thanks to computers
>not knowing anything else but computers

>not immediately offering it for sale for massive profit
>Sell for $50,000,000 to china or russia or some other country
>For them would be cheap
>put money in investment account
>live off interest like a king for the rest of your life

>make hundreds of millions off the resale

Business/entrepreneurship is obviously not for you, and that example was pretty retarded. But come on, 8gb of ram is like $50 canadian, so like $30 in ameribux. I honestly dont give a shit if you get 16gb or not, but you can spend more than that at a restaurant easily, its not like its a lot of money. And just because you dont do anything on your computer except browse Sup Forums and watch japanese cartoons, doesnt mean thats all that everyone else does too.

Should I start my own brand of RAM?

*) says GiB on the packaging
*) no gamer type faux heat spreaders
*) contains an ISO or IEC sticker

forza horizon 3 uses upwards to 12GB

>selling a nuclear vessel
>to the enemy

Like thats going to happen.
SHINE ON you crazy miracle.

RAM is dirt cheap thats my excuse i also do a fuck ton of multi tasking I'd rather have more than just enough or not enough memory.

>enemy

>thinking a nuclear reactor can be made into a nuke

I have 12GB of ram and it feels just right.

I've been over 8GB of usage before, but never more than 10GB and the two whole gigabytes of wiggle room feels comfy.

I was wise to buy an 8GB stick to append to the 4GB's of ram that came with this pc.

Why an ISO/IEC sticker when the standards are written by JEDEC?

Also, RAM is easy. Just copy the reference design from JEDEC. The hard part is competing with vertically integrated providers like Crucial.

>using a number other than a power of two

how?

Its not 1999 anymore?

kek

>nuclear aircraft carrier
>NOT adding on military power
>hes got the mentallity of muh dirty bomb

Geeeee dude stop going to the stormfront.

>you

dirty nigger please read this pole
Then drink benzene

yes consume more ram, buy more ram, be a good goy.

Just install the first 8 gigs and download the other 8 for free dumbass

It's not a meme anymore. Welcome to 2017

Holy fuck, you embody everything that is wrong with hardware consumption, thanks to you faggot we get "gaming" ram, "gayming"keyboards, "gaymon" headsets, "gaimung" nic KILLER cards and shit.
Get stuffed and die in a fire

If you're selling it with fuel, it is worth noting that the fuel used in nuclear vessels is much more enriched than found in civil reactors - this is the reason for their endurance; civil reactors need fuel replacement every 6 months or so because they easily get clogged up with neutron poisons. It's not high enriched enough to make bombs without further refinement, but still is much closer than ordinary uranium.

I think "gaming hardware" is retarded, I'm just pointing out that "cheap" is a relative term. If something is sold for far less than its usual price, it is "cheap" regardless of whether you are interested in buying it or not.

>he thinks the only use for RAM is gaymes

sperglord much

this guy knows the truth

Well 16GB is my desire because I use virtual machines and when I do intensive workloads and such I usually end up giving it 8-14GB out of 16GB drowning in the machines use case. As for the SSD meme, I don't really care about using them outside of important applications and host OS boot time. Anything more than 120GB is unnecessary until I otherwise gather up enough programs that but actually require so much data that aren't games.

>intensive workloads
>16GB is enough for it

come on man

>16GB
are you DDR3 user?
can't you guys upgrade to more?
I got 32GB and have no idea how i'm going to use it all on 2016 :3

My use cases is centered around heavy computations, CPU time is the biggest latency factor for me, not IO latency.

For instance having to perform hashing and data compression on large multi GB files where data access is done in sequential KB/MB accesses for efficiency's sake RAM isn't saturated for the sake of saturating it unnecessarily. Doing so would introduce the overhead dealing with memory additional memory management and having to deal with swap/pagefile.

Working with the fact that my system is consumer hardware, I fix my workloads to the limits of my system while maintaining efficiency, rather than pushing the extremes at the risk of introducing unwanted variables to the equation.

total used free shared buffers cache available
Mem: 31G 13G 270M 600M 9.4G 7.8G 16G
Swap: 0B 0B 0B

16Gb is just barely enough.

that's a cute way to explain that you are indeed a poorfag

I thought the only use for ram is meat.

tbf on my 2012 13" non retina MBP (i7) I actually *need* the 16GB of RAM.

As soon as I have some browser tabs, eclipse etc. open and a virtual machine for debian (I need that there linux for biopython and I can't be arsed with installing that shit on OSX) I get pretty close to the 16GB RAM limit.

>pic related, memory usage *without* the debian VM running.

>memory usage with VM running

>memory usage inside VM, doing image processing in python

I got 16 GiB for the occasion when I need to use Java software. Otherwise it uses 2 GiB at most.

heh...

All in all, 16GB of RAM is *hardly* enough for anyone doing actual work on a computer. Especially once you're running VM's you will run out of RAM pretty quickly.

What I fucking hate about Apple is their shamelessness to exclusively deliver the new overpriced macbooks with 16GB of RAM.
16GB already limits me in my ability to run 2 VM's simultaneously (Windows and debian).

Anyone who is not a 1337 gaymen faggot and needs their laptop to do scientific work, whilst browsing Sup Forums and porn will not be happy with just 16GB. I don't want to have to close eclipse just because I need to fire up Windows 10 for nVivo or some shit.

Why do you post dumb flat sluts?

flat is justice!

You must be one of those Apple fags that don't even know what VM means.
