Videogames aren't a real hobby. They suck up time but don't provide any form of self improvement. Nothing wrong with playing them every now and then but if they're your main "hobby" it's incredibly pathetic.

Playing games on old console hardware is slightly better, just because you pretty much have to learn some basic electrical knowledge once you get to fixing broken things/mods.

I was one of them. From ages 7 to around 17, I was addicted to video games. I am in college now, but am honestly filled with regret over all of the time I had wasted. I could be so much better at the things I do now, if I had started during those ages. I play guitar, lift, run, and I used to /lit/ but I was satisfied after I read all the classics that I felt were must-reads.
My point is that many of the people who are avid gamers, haven't actually taken the time for some introspection and realized what they're actually doing to themselves. Video games become addicting because they have measurable progress, so while you feel as though you're accomplishing something, you are truly just wasting one more day.

I had people who treated me like shit for the better part of the first 18 years of my life, and the only regret i have is i never really looked into the systems of games back then and really min maxed. could have been fun playing eq in a top guild in its hay day. games were the thing that gave me my closest friends, they taught me to read at a high school level when the school was satisfied to have us read the hungry caterpillar, rpgs taught me how to do algebra in my head a good 7 years before i ever had the class. taught me quite a few problem solveing skills too.

Anyone else here that have pretty much "grown away" from gaming? I used to play games for hours everyday when I was younger, but nowadays I just don't feel like it. Sometimes I play some Skyrim or Fallout 4, but I don't feel as into it as I used to.
I would like to enjoy games as much as I did before since I don't do anything exactly useful with my free time, mostly just browser Sup Forums and /r/Sup Forums.

As for sports, pretty much everybody in the midwestern US is into football. But the vast majority of people just sit down and watch it on TV. I hardly play as much vidya as I used to. Maybe I'm just getting old (27) or games these days are just bad. Single player games, that is. I can't play online games due to being stuck on satellite internet with its high latency. If I had decent Internet, I might be playing more multiplayer meme games such as CS, BF, WoW, etc.
