Why does Sup Forums think it's such a manchildy thing to play video games? I don't play games as often as the average person that does play games, dubbed the "gamer," thou when I play games I use them as a stress reliever or when I need to step back and stop thinking about my code, etc...
What do you do when you're stressed or have an issue with code, do a find-a-word or something? (I'm not saying stuck where you go on SO and ask btw)
Parker Sanchez
nothing wrong but this is Sup Forums not Sup Forums

Half of the people that think that way are just edgelords trying to show how mature they are, The other half is feed up with all this gamer consumerism bullshit that is flooding this board. This is a weebshit board, they have no right to call anyone a manchild
But the thing I hate about people making threads on here about pc gaymen is that its always a poor college student that wants a gaymen laptop to do unreasonable things at an unreasonable price point.
They usually have a budget of around 300-600 dollars and want to be able to play the latest games. These people need a reality check.
I think these threads need to be instantly deleted and everyone with the idea of building a gaming pc pointed to the build thread

Videogames aren't a real hobby. They suck up time but don't provide any form of self improvement. Nothing wrong with playing them every now and then but if they're your main "hobby" it's incredibly pathetic.

games have spent the last 15 years dumbing themselves down to sell more copies but there are occasional gems. games that take strategy and effort and can be replayed in a million ways make you think and the success high is much greater than just watching some film. normie video games involve jerking each other off over semi-naked characters where it's essentially an esoteric random number generator.
outside of that video games are an industry and you can make a good salary if you get in with a good company. Also if you succeed at indie games which are viciously succumbing to memes, you can make hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Playing games on old console hardware is slightly better, just because you pretty much have to learn some basic electrical knowledge once you get to fixing broken things/mods.
My year spent fixing up old gameboys and fucking with arduinos/memeberrys led me to become an electronics technician at a company you've heard of.
PC gaming mostly teaches you how to leach off your parents ("I need this GPU for """""CAD"""""") and click shit in proprietary GUIs.
Carson Kelly
I call people out on gaming here as I used to be one of them. Have you seen how many people on this board let malignant software dictate the way they use their computer, or they needlessly spend hundreds of dollars on games?
I was one of them. From ages 7 to around 17, I was addicted to video games. I am in college now, but am honestly filled with regret over all of the time I had wasted. I could be so much better at the things I do now, if I had started during those ages. I play guitar, lift, run, and I used to /lit/ but I was satisfied after I read all the classics that I felt were must-reads.
My point is that many of the people who are avid gamers, haven't actually taken the time for some introspection and realized what they're actually doing to themselves. Video games become addicting because they have measurable progress, so while you feel as though you're accomplishing something, you are truly just wasting one more day.
It has become so ridiculous, people now pay to watch other people play games
Angel Allen
>""an"" Why is there so many illiterate people on this board?
Nolan Collins
>bashing on gaming >pretend that they do something more productive Entertainment is not productive in most cases. Even literature books are not meant to be productive. If you are not addicted to gaming then there is no problem with playing video games.
Luke Cooper
lol, played games from 3 till present, and hope i never quit.
regrets? I had people who treated me like shit for the better part of the first 18 years of my life, and the only regret i have is i never really looked into the systems of games back then and really min maxed. could have been fun playing eq in a top guild in its hay day. games were the thing that gave me my closest friends, they taught me to read at a high school level when the school was satisfied to have us read the hungry caterpillar, rpgs taught me how to do algebra in my head a good 7 years before i ever had the class. taught me quite a few problem solveing skills too.
as it stands now, my body is shitting out on me, my feet hurt constantly, my back wants me to never move and my pinkies never really functioned, but something is fucked in my hands bad and its not carpel tunnel.
as for games giving you a measurable outcome... god yes, I love being able to see results its one of the reasons that i never liked lifting weights, beside my fucked back, was id be lifting for a good month just hoping genetics didn't fuck me hard, heal spurs, back fucked wrists shit eyes don't give me much hope on that front though.
reading? tell me what a classic is, because the reading we did in school was fucking hell. I want to read about a world that could never happen, not a fucking story about a bootlegger, not a story about some emo cunt, not a story about a pedophilic old man on a boat, and i don't want to read the giver. give me the odyssey, I liked that, not the fucking parable story for the devil, or why a silent invisible weapon is better used as a hammer, or better yet why winning the lottery can get you stoned to death.
give me the fantasy world where humans are the bad guys the monsters are the good, not a may as well be set in the real world middle ages 'fantasy' about politics that's so common now.

because realistically the human brain corrects almost everything we read, and makes it far more fluid than it actually is, the only way to really see this is to speak it out loud or to comb over what you just wrote.
mix that in with you know what the fuck im saying, you are either going to be a grammar nazi, ignore, or participate, and to be honest, I much rather spell and grammar just bad enough to trigger their autism while anyone else just reads whats written fluidly because i never want to argue with a grammar nazi, they think correcting you makes them the winner for some retarded reason.

a few years back, a 600$ laptop was able to game, maybe not the highest end settings, but able to game none the less. now the add in cards cost so fucking much that it pushes what should be a 600-800$ laptop to 1500$ minimum.

Anyone else here that have pretty much "grown away" from gaming? I used to play games for hours everyday when I was younger, but nowadays I just don't feel like it. Sometimes I play some Skyrim or Fallout 4, but I don't feel as into it as I used to. I would like to enjoy games as much as I did before since I don't do anything exactly useful with my free time, mostly just browser Sup Forums and /r/Sup Forums.

I think most people here who throw a fit about video games actually like video games, but won't allow themselves to play them because they think it makes them more mature.

It's all illogical culture beliefs. Video games are nothing more than a form of recreation and/or escape. Other forms of this include spectator sports and films.
Films are a good example because whether you're a "manchild" depends on which ones you watch. If you like Star Wars, you're a manchild. But if you're into the Bourne series, that's totally normal.
As for sports, pretty much everybody in the midwestern US is into football. But the vast majority of people just sit down and watch it on TV. Pretty much nobody over 30 goes outside and plays it themselves, yet if you don't watch football on TV, follow teams religiously, and play fantasy football then you're a dork. There are many people who just pretend to be into that shit just to blend in. Nobody wants to be an outsider. Regardless, you're just sitting on the couch, being a fatass while watching two teams play. It's no more physical than playing video games. But again, it's a cultural thing.
Hudson Ramirez
What? Star Wars are widely considered as way better than Jason Bourne
Kayden Bell
Where I live, if you're a Star Wars fan then you're a dork. When I say "fan" I mean someone who remembers all the plot points of all the films and knows who most of the characters are.

I hardly play as much vidya as I used to. Maybe I'm just getting old (27) or games these days are just bad. Single player games, that is. I can't play online games due to being stuck on satellite internet with its high latency. If I had decent Internet, I might be playing more multiplayer meme games such as CS, BF, WoW, etc.

Can we just agree that probably non of the above is true for each and every game? When you say 'games are an addictive timesink' this should be true for the biggest MMORPG to the smallest story-driven 1 hour title as both are considered games, which is just bullshit. Videogames are widely considered pure entertainment/escapism which has the same value as saying every printed medium is informative or every piece of music is recycled crap.

Video games are fun, but video game culture is offputting. Because video games are a product. You have to have the new one, bro, the new game, with the new graphics that doesn't even try to look good on older PCs, you have to have the new console bro, you have to have steam bro. This reality was intentionally created to make more money.
And then you have the gamers themselves

I unironically agree with this.
I went to see a Bourne film in cinemas once and it was the most boring, generic, trash I had ever seen. I couldn't even call it "generic action movie" because the 'action' itself was sparse and stale. Is this supposed to be the American James Bond or something? The protag has zero personality.

It's because you always were dumb in the first place.

I think 'gamers' generally get a negative association.
It is just entertainment , the majority of people it is nothing more than that. Sure some people take things too far, but that can be said about anything.
