I got my A+ 2 days ago
I have a decent paying desktop (gubment) job and am constantly having to challenge our CompTIA shits on minutia that's irrelevant to the task at hand. If you get it, that's great for you and HR, but don't think it means you know more than anybody else.
not op but I'm certified but I have no professional experience except for a year internship at my college but I dealt with computers all my life
can I get a job?
>java cert
>oracle split it to two parts because money
>passed 1st one
>too lazy to study for 2nd one
How do I unleash my inner pajeet?
I got sec+ because my company only allowed me to study for CEH (not a comp tia cert) after I got it. Going for OSCP next. Company is paying so idgaf
Yeah but most likely you're going to have to work shitty service desk for a few years. Try to pick someone that provides services to government or a really niche industry. Government contracts can lead to clearances and a smaller job pool. Same for niche support. Just don't pick a niche that uses bloated easily replaced technology.
Smaller qualified applicant pool is what I meant as the benefit. I realized smaller job pool sounds like the opposite of what you would want.
what is the best way to convey my lifetime work of computer experience in a resume?
The best mix is somewhere you can "specialize" but also show off generalist skills.
How do I find government jobs?
Helpdesk is the only type of job I applied for, what else can I do?
So if you don't have actual job experience, you may need to stretch some of the work you have done into jobs. Other attributes may need to go in the skills/knowledge section.
Helpdesk is good. Also look for jobs that have titles like "IT Support analyst" "IT Services Analyst" "Service Desk"
Generally Helpdesk will mostly be answering service stuff and account unlocks. The newer buzzwordy model is Service Desk which means you'll have a greater likelihood of exposure and hands on work.
I really appreciate the tips, I was almost running out of options on what to apply for
Depends on your country, but there's usajobs.gov for murrica.
Only downside is trying finding shit that's near your location, since most of it seems to be placed in random locations. But if you're fine with relocating, they're pretty good jobs.
thanks senpai dont care about going somewhere else
This. Some stuff from the A+ is so far out to lunch that it will actively prevent you from solving your problems if you're following it to the letter. I wasn't impressed at all by the content or the Indian-tier questions on the exams.
This hasn't gotten me a job yet, either :^)
I'm in college and have been building my computers since I was 13 or 14. The A+ lets me skip some coursework so I picked up the Meyers book and watched Messer's videos but I have the weirdest test anxiety. I always do well on my test and I know the A+ is mocked as the most basic bitch cert but something about being out some cash if I fail is making me apprehensive.
Anyone feeling similar to me take the test? Really as of now I am mostly sketched out about memorizing the common port numbers and there functions.
this test is the biggest scam out there, do NOT take it. No employer I ever interviewed with gave two shits about my A+ or Net+, and they straight up told me "so what?"
>go into interview
>interviewer starts asking questions
>tells me to talk about my qualifications
>start discussing my certs and what I've learned from the them and what I know
>"okay, you have some certs... but so what? Everybody has certs. I could hire someone who has twice as many certs as you for half the pay"
>I just sat there shocked beyond belief
>start stammering and stuttering
>interviewer looks unimpressed
>ends the interview
>asks me to leave and tell the next applicant to come in
>Whaddya know, it's a fucking poo in loo
Seriously, fuck comptia and their bullshit certs
POO
I think the questions are perfect
Iirc cia post some encryption trivia stuff in their facebook page for potential hires
>facebook
Certs != experience. This is your problem.
Certs are for your own achievements, probably you weren't telling them what you can provide for their own achievement.
Lern2softskills
The bonus incentive to make me take it stems from my county school district's dual enrollment program. They waived tuition for me to go to a local Vocational school that offered a course with A+ and Net+ Certs, and since test costs are included in tuition I take the 1st attempt free of charge.
Full blooded Murican but I can sling a mean Indian accent
