Believe it or not, ethernet has speeds higher than 1gb.
Plus, using a NAS protocol is generally better for an end-user system than SAN or DAS anyway, because the storage system can run ZFS or some other filesystem that actually provides protection for data.

Actually no laptop can right now.
Because compatible TB3 RAID Array systems don't exist right now. And you can't daisy chain TB2 devices through TB3.

10 years ago we didn't have displays needing as much bandwidth as we do now. No wireless connection is going to run at 2560x1440 display at 60 Hz, much less anything above it.

wireless ac is looking pretty sweet, im sure some nice proprietary compression would make it surprisingly livable for work stuff, tvs have little wifi dongles anyways to stream the high bw needs direct
