How long before Libreboot is dead?

Never, because x60/x200 are practically immortal.

I have a T60 that should be well past its realms of usefulness, but is still kicking perfectly.

Really, I'll probably never buy a new PC at all while this still works.

>Never, because x60/x200 are practically immortal.
This tbqh

I bought a T500 for the purpose of installing Libreboot on it. I will install Qubes OS and use Whonix virtual machines only unless for my purposes I would need to use GuixSD.

I was reading the installation process and it is long and technical. I will need to purchase tools in order to do this myself, which I have zero experience with. But it's worth saving $400 or something dollars buying a prebuilt laptop with less screen real estate.

Normal people do not need anything more than 8GB of RAM and a 2.3gHz CPU.

>using non-windows OS
>caring about architecture

why bother with x86 at all?

Cheap and plentiful.

I love my libre x200. I use it as my portable school computer. I want other architectures to gain traction though. I want this to become a reality:

x60 sucks ass trying to stream video or play games, x200 is slightly better but we're forgetting how absolutely terrible the screen resolution is.

its a fine laptop to just use for hacking stuff though

There are no alternatives.

I tried to upgrade mine with the x200s screen, which is 1440x900. The screen works with the nonfree BIOS, but in Libreboot the backlight does not work. The backlight is the only issue though, so it has to be possible to get it working. When I get time I want to try to get it working.

There are, but they're less supported. PPC is dead and draws too much power compared to x86.

I mean, yes, you can use ARM, but the power is comparatively less than x86 even for similar clock rates.

I watched a video online of installation on the x200 or x60, and after installation, it made this annoying buzzing sound, the computer. Is this true? Does your computer just buzz for no reason?

i'd rather trust AMD/Intel anyway instead of shitboot written by tranny

So what you're saying is there are no alternatives. I said that already.

To clarify, I am talking about for desktop computing. There are no alternatives.

That happens if you set the backlight settings incorrectly. It can normally be fixed, but most people don't notice it enough to care.

Maybe Coreboot is an option then if you aren't freetarded. I have not looked into it at all because I am.

Hmm...

Minna no Nihongo?

>x200 is slightly better but we're forgetting how absolutely terrible the screen resolution is.

I'm not forgetting. I use the dock for its intended purpose and connect to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse when not on the road.

B-b-but Libreboot shills POWER8 desktop on their page.
Also I know SPARC is open-source, but I don't know its advantages in raw power.
They weren't liked for nothing!

>PPC is dead and draws too much power compared to x86.
This fucking meme has got to stop

Why are powerpc cpus so common in automobiles and aerospace then?
