Because it's well documented, well maintained and has amazing repositories between the AUR and the regular repositories. Let me tell you a story:

>Set out to test CentOS as a possible OS to use on AWS
>Install CentOS 7 minimal on a KVM/QEMU virtual machine
>Oh fuck, no internet
>Find unhelpful wiki page that tells me to end some config to enable the device
>Try to edit config
>nano not found, vim not found
>Oh, vim is called vi even though it isn't...
>Get the internet working by enabling some settings
>Install git and download my server application
>Actually goes okay
>Try to install cmake and gcc to compile it
>Oops gcc doesn't come with C++, install that separately
>Oops it still doesn't come with C++14, install that separately (or something, never solved this problem)

>No AUR, have to get them from Github
>Install Boost
>Try to compile project

Compared to that, Arch just werks. Everything is in the main repos or the AUR, the stuff in the main repos is actually complete and usable, as well as being well documented.

The AUR, the AUR is life, the AUR is god.

In any other distro, if you don't find a program you need in the repos you would have to build it from source, lurk to have all the dependencies and hope everything goes well.

In Arch everything is in the AUR, if it's not in the AUR it doesn't exist.
