Redpill me on Solus. Why would I use it instead of Arch? It doesn't even provide a minimal installation, no, you have to choose their own bloated DE or MATE.
Redpill me on Solus. Why would I use it instead of Arch? It doesn't even provide a minimal installation, no...
Both are toys that use Systemd[ick] kill yourself OP
nice shilling. Solus is shit, nobody is using it, except two or three faggots that can't stop making threads.
>shits on systemd
>doesn't even know what it is or what it does
You guys make me laugh
I'm still trying to figure out the point of solus
Seriously, what's the point of this?
To make a distro that just works I guess? Apple are pricing themselves out of any sensible persons range, win 10 is garbage. A distro built from the ground up for normie use is a good thing at this time imo
what is manjaro, antergos, mint, void, debian, fedora, opensuse?
fuck off shills
Solus could've been perfect. It just needed portage, openrc and their own overlay.
just another flavor of the month cancer distro no one asked for or needed
NO idea OP. But you can install budgie on Arch
KEVIN

I haven't booted in like a week and I use ssd.
Sweet blog, Jude
Fixed it for you
So... Install Gentoo?
>Redpill me on Solus
Solus is a botnet.
Budgie relies on systemd and Solus users clearlinux only optimisations.

>Antergos
Arch instability no thanks.
>Manjaro
Will literally break on you, basically an Antergos clone, which is a clone of Arch.
>Mint
Enjoy your lack of security.
>Void
Literally a meme. It doesn't even use systemd.
>Debian
Enjoy all of your outdated packages and shit tier package manager
>Fedora
A somewhat viable option, but it's not a stable rolling release distro. Also another shit tier package manager.
>openSUSE
Just stop.
>Arch
Second best package manager, but install process is what kills it.
>Ubuntu
Enjoy your bloat.
>Gentoo
Lol.
>Solus
Has the best package manager (eopkg), has a great community, easy install process, perfect and sane defaults, and it's custom DE built specifically for Solus. Perfect for the people who use Linux just as any other normal OS, and also for the hard core Linux users. Literally the perfect distro.
>Second best package manager, but install process is what kills it
Are you unironically saying you're too stupid to follow a one-time step-by-step guide?
i'll install Solus if you tell me how to whitetext, Kevin
No, but if someone wants to install Linux, and they decide to use Arch, they might think the install process is retarded. No one wants to manually install an OS, they would much rather do a GUI installation. Imagine if they were coming from Windows. It's not that you're too stupid to do it, it's just a waste of time.

Why LITERALLY WASTE TIME when you can easily install another distro in one go and get the same experience? After a while you realize that they're all the same shit outside of DE and package manager.
...
I installed Solus after it was shilled. I installed it to a RAM disk and it did boot somewhat quickly (but not impressively quickly)
Outside of that, it seemed to be an OS designed for absolute plebs. Would not use.

smh tbh fam
I still don't get why they put the taskbar on top. When Budgie looked like a Chrome OS clone was when it looked its best. Then they just slapped on the Arc theme and called it a day.
Unless there's a global menu and/or the window controls appear in the taskbar on maximization there's no need to put the taskbar on top.
Same here. Considering how hard that little lesbian looking fag shills it I was expecting to be more impressed. It's the definition of mediocre.

It does so much shit, how are supposed to keep track of it.

From what I understand, most of that "just werks" stuff is tied to the Budgie DE itself, not so much Solus
Looking at Solus at the core it seems more like it's the base kernel with a hot new package manager that uses different keywords to differentiate itself from dpkg and pacman. And even then, am I retarded for thinking DEs are just a visual way to do what a terminal command could easily do on it's own? If that's the case, then why use Solus when you could just use, say, Ubuntu with the Budgie DE? You get the same commands you can easily google from multiple different sources with the same look of the OS itself, would you not?
>come back to Sup Forums after five months
>Solus thread every day
Fuck off, holy shit. Stop trying to get traction on this joke of a distro to have at least one thing on your fucking CV.
>using swap on first boot
Kill yourself.
>install process is what.kills it
sheesh it's not that hard user
I see your point, Arch installation isn't very friendly to new to gnu.
Never said it was hard, it's just people prefer a much easier and more streamlined GUI for installing their OS, regardless of the OS or distro.

Explain
Don't use Arch. It's malware created by Windows to destroy your hard drive so you can never install the superior OS, Solus.
Website got hacked once and left a compromised binary on it
Solus shill guy vs Debian shill guy must fight to the death.
There can be only one.
There is no point in using Solus. Anyone who posts favorably about it is a fucking Kevinposter.
They were insisting that it uses less than 100MB of RAM on idle but I was using around 600MB of RAM on idle.
>inb4 redhat shill

It uses negative RAM.
fuck off Microsoft.
Muh nigga.
If solus is so great WHY DID IT WIPE MY GRANDMA'S LAPTOP HUH? SHE HAD 15 YEARS OF PICTURES ON THERE! NOW WHAT WILL I DO?
Whats wrong with vlc? it runs just fine.
ok microsoft shill, you're just jealous that Solus is superior.
Talk to our boy Kevin
He is the Solus official fag here
...
Download R. I. P.
Boot
Use Photorec
Because you touch yourself at night, Solarus sees you when you're sleeping, it knows when you're awake.
>manually mousing over to delete a file instead of using ls and rm, optionally with cd
So this is the power of Linux Mint users...
Joshua pls go
That's what makes it interesting, in my opinion. It's not supposed to be your first distro, or maybe even your second. You're supposed to use a beginner-friendly distro like Ubuntu or Mint to get your feet wet and decide if you like Linux. Then, if you decide you want to go deeper, you install Arch. The point is for it to be a learning experience.
It provides a user friendly UI, and has software improvements over other base packages in other distros. It also has features for both people new to Linux and those who consider themselves "power users".
Wipe your grandma

Is this still the 90s and we are crying because of YAST? Tumbleweed is a nice rolling release distribution with an actual sane preconfiguration.
