Nes classic

looks like the short controller cable is not going to be a problem, looks super simple to replace.

how about the actual NES system? do you think it's running an emulator, or did they adapt the old hardware into one chip to make things cycle-accurate?

i wonder how long it will take for someone to hack into the thing and make storing new roms possible...

It has a chink allwinner chip

Basically its a 10$ orange pi with proprietary NES emulator on it

It would be a waste of money to reimplement the NES on a custom-made SoC like the chinese did back in the mid-90s.

They bought a bunch of off-the-shelf ARM SoCs and run an NES emulator because ARM chips are stupid cheap and readily available.

Once people poke at it enough, loading up other emulators will be piss easy.

If they find Nesticle or Nestopia running in there it's going to be hilarious

That's an Allwinner R16 processor

it's a dirt cheap chinese SoC that's stronger than the Wii, just dirt cheap due to chinese manufacturing.
Why hack the thing? Just get any single board computer that uses an Allwinner chip.

>nintendo getting away with gross GPL violation
It's happened before.

They wouldn't go to allwinner to put the nes on a single chip :^)

>implying it wouldn't run bsd code like mame

Looking at this just makes me want to buy more cheap chinkshit tablets and mini PCs. I already own two. I'm hopeless.

>why hack the thing
Because it comes in a cute case and already has a controller.

so no chance that the thing is a perfect 1:1 emulation of the original, then? iirc you needed a 3.0GHz quad core x86 processor to run cycle-accurate SNES emulation, no way some crappy chink ARM SoC will be able to pull that off, even for an 8 bit system

If you're referring to byuu's bsnes/higan emulator, that thing is seriously overkill.

Byuu is a giant fucking autistic weeb who cares waaay too much about cycle-accurate emulation, it's basically snake oil in 99% of games.
He likes to compare higan to ancient emulator projects like zsnes, which was written in the mid-90s and was designed to prioritize speed over accuracy because it was written for 33MHz 80486-based CPUs.

Byuu is a nice guy ;_;

Someone already installed linux on their famicom mini!

yeah, i was thinking about this article:

> Byuu is a giant fucking autistic weeb
i dunno, the guy has a point and explains it admirably well. i hope nintendo gives us a glitch-free emulation experience, for 60 fucking euros it better damn be

Damn that thing looks hideous. Do both versions have the same games?

No, they chose different games for the japanese market because they have tons and tons of stuff that never made it over here.

u wot

...

Fuck this thing, I'm waiting for the SNES version next year

The point is not playability, it's accuracy and preservation.
