Ixquick is a metasearch engine and Startpage is basically Google.
At least used to be, seems like they merged them now.

sure but if the same IP (ixquick/startpage) is making dozens of almost identical requests to google a second (one for each person searching ixquick/startpage) it's a lot harder to see what any one person is searching for, than if every searcher went directly to google.

I like Searx, it does what i need.
