>Hey user >My laptop is old and slow, I want to buy a new one >My passion is film making >Since you are so good with computers what should I buy? >I want something to allow me to easy edit my videos >It must be easy to use and the results should be professional looking
In this scenario what would Sup Forums recommend?
Yes, Linux is better for programming and computer science, Windows is better for games, but can we just admit Mac's (although overpriced) are better for easy and professional-looking video editing?
Am I wrong? Is there a combination of software in Linux that is as easy to use and the results look as good as iMovie?
Levi Garcia
You wrong. I like adobe premiere + after effects more than final cut. So windows is great for video editing for me and i can play games too
Justin Taylor
Mac and Windows are good for video editing. For Linux I use Blender. It doesn't really matter what system or even the camera, a professional looking film will depend MUCH MORE on you and your team's (camera crew, actors, etc.) abilities.
Carson Morgan
>adobe premiere + after effects Isn't this very expensive? Doesn't it need a subscription? iMovie is free with every Mac so I think in the long term it would be cheaper than premiere + after effects.
And even if the cost was the same, isn't iMovie just easier to use? And faster too, especially not that 4K is becoming the norm, since it is optimized to work with Mac hardware?
Luke Brooks
Windows + Adobe CC + Lynda.com (or other online course for learning how to use Premiere and After Effects)

Don't waste your time.
What they are looking for is not actual advice, but excuses to buy a macbook. Even if they pretend to listen, they'll still walk into the store and get the thing you told them not to get because the guy in the store said it was good.

What software?
She is a underpaid junior creative that wants to get into film editing so she can make some extra income by filming weddings, ads, etc
She can't afford something extremely expensive
David Jenkins
After effects your only choice...
You can get it for free from known sources.

>My passion is film making >the results should be professional looking
as a film maker this triggers me to my core
Daniel Ortiz
She is not very good with computers and I'm very nervous to be her IT guy And despite what Mac shills are telling it's trivial now to get a virus on a Mac
I'm sorry I triggered you What hardware/os/software you would suggest to an newbie who wants to get into film editing?
Matthew Nguyen
I think she's really valuing my advice
I just don't want to let her down by giving her wrong advice
Jaxon Thompson
Reading your text makes my brain hurt, you are a fucking cuck.
Just slap the bitch and get it over with.

>paying for Adobe products by just replacing one dll or Framework file you can literaly get any Adobe product for free.
Adam Myers
Only Freesoftware, don't listen to this Adobe and Apple fags.
Nolan Gray
Blender is free...
Mason Richardson
Blender is free and I know how to use it to create simple 3D scenes
I like it a lot but it's so different than other programs with so many shortcuts, I don't know if she will be able to use it
I'm already known as the Linux autist at work that is using Vim instead of Notepad++

:| the post
Just put together a computer with above mentioned specs, give her the price she needs to pay, it will be leagues better than a macbook, you could even install a MacOS on it if she really insisted.
Camden Bennett
Thanks
Also thanks for being honest and telling me how beta I look When even Sup Forums can figure it out I can imagine how beta she thinks I am I I'll just tell her I don't know and I'll just quit my job
Daniel Perry
Cuck please. Get a grip. When talking to a girl, be honest and express them feels, dont be a sappy faggot.
Also, if you cant do your job properly and have to ask Sup Forums then you really should quit the job and go to retail.

My job is making sure the computers work, the backup works, network works, updates, file sharing etc
Occasionally I help them with photoshop, illustrator, indesign and font issues
She just asked a "friendly advice" because she thinks I'm good with computers and I help them a lot
I'm not that delusional Mostly because I thought that in the past and it was an epic failure
Owen Harris
Get a decent PC and stick Ubuntu Studio on it, get rejected by her, then hang yourself.
Cameron Rivera
iMovie might be easier to use but it won't be faster than any other software especially on Mac's underpowered hardware.
Also iMovie is not as capable as other tools and it is easy to fall into the habit of making everything look the same on iMovie.
I'd recommend Adobe software and if she complains that it isn't easy then too bad because professional looks are not achieved by slapping a preset.
Jordan Sanders
hardware/software is the absolute last thing to consider when making a film and has little to zero effect on how "professional looking" a film is. how easy it is to (i assume) edit a film is more based in skill than what software you use, however stuff like imovie or windows movie maker are perfectly capable provided minimal sound/colour work is needed.
if she's serious, get a legit or otherwise copy of premiere pro which includes a decent amount of correction and audio tools and isn't too hard for a newbie to get their head around.
as for a laptop, get the fastest processor her budget allows, as decent ram and gfx will come with the package. you'll seldom find an i7 laptop that ships with shit-tier gfx and inadequate ram.
that said, if she is not very good with computers, her money may be better spent hiring crew for her film projects
Gabriel Brooks
You know the answer is mac.
William Russell
>the results should be professional looking Why don't you hit her up with that real and tell her her skillless ass ain't producing shit that's pro looking instead of blaming the computer?
Ayden Clark
Advise what people who do that shit for a living use. Why are you asking Sup Forums?
You can't go wrong for telling her to get a Mac. What you personally might like could not matter less, and with Mac she won't blame you for malware.

>linux film editing
let me tell you about my experiences >wanted to put together couple of scenes into this one dumb webum >linux has a lot of software, why not try something >lightworks is super cool, but a lof of features needs money (including normal export) >almost every other option i tried (i don't remember names anymore) had something critically wrong, couple of them weren't working at all >finally i got pitivi which looks like crap, but allows to do basic cutting/combining together, so it was enough to make this webum (even though i'd love to mess with white balance adjustments, program wasn't implementing it very well)
>some time later i tried adobe premiere on windows >everything works out of the box >full of features >intuitive >does a lot of nice shit automatically while processing, so everything looks way better >supports raw video from magic lantern
so if i'd have a choice now, i'd definitely run Premiere on windows.
Andrew Martinez
Build a desktop computer (or pay someone to do it for you) with parts from logicalincrements Pirate windows server 2016, install w/desktop experience (less bloat, less botnet, some stuff slightly better) Download adobe premiere pro cc 2016 and crack with patch-painteR
Zachary Stewart
Why do you need a desktop for video editing?
>rendering times You can just left it for a night if it's too long.
Evan Stewart
I realize that you had a bad time with GUIs but there's also ffmpeg for bash that works pretty well for manipulating video and audio data. The more that you stay out of GUIs, especially on Linux, the better.
There is no huge army of devs paid to make decent GUIs in Linux
Zachary Murphy
i'm usually cropping, converting, and timing single-file videos in ffmpeg, but when you're putting a lot of little scenes together, you simply need to have quick preview. Terminal ffmpeg is not a solution for the problem.
Dylan Reyes
I'm dying.
>but
Blender is mature and stable enough and capable of doing most video editing tasks, if you don't mind having a full fledged 3d modeler and UV wrapping suite attached.
Matthew Baker
Oh yeah, forgot to add: i haven't tried blender. Which was kinda dumb, because it really sounds like a best option.
