...Why?
FreeDOS will soon be releasing its newest version!
How else can I play my favorite video games?
Also, DOS is how you interface with some older radios. I read about it in a thread on Sup Forums.
>How else can I play my favorite video games?
DOSBox?
But you misunderstand my question. Though I wasn't especially clear.
I meant the question more as a "why are they still needing to update?"
You would have thought that in 20 years they would have perfected DOS.

>You would have thought that in 20 years they would have perfected DOS
You would have thought that in over 4000 years, they would have perfected bread, but here we are.
I like my bread like I like my women. White, no crust.
Who fucking cares.
I like mine dark and crusty.
So what's with this freedos thingie?
Can you grab a random netbook, install freedos on it and not have games run at the speed of light?
FreeDOS exists so that computer manufacturers could have an OS to put on a Windows-less computer in countries that require an OS to be bundled with a computer.
Does all DOS vidya/software work on FreeDOS? Does it just emulate the system calls or what?
Windows doesn't work under FreeDOS.
what will mudslimes use if they buy a new computer?
i was hoping FreeDOS would keep going, even developing an x-window-system and GUI desktop environment similar to windows-95 (be just a basic desktop) but they are so god damn slow in development i have not heard anything from them for years and i figured it was a dead project, so they are finally kicking out another release...
I flashed a supermicro bios with a RC of it a week or so ago.
It was perfect. I made a freedos bootdisk from slackware, copied over the flash files, then did my business.
It worked perfectly. Zero Microsoft. Zero licensing bullshit.
It does not emulate anything, it's a full OS
But it works under DosBox.
>countries that require an OS to be bundled with a computer
There's a law for that in Hungary
you can use GUI systems for DOS like Windows 3.x or GEM.
>DOSBox
>not PCem
PCem only supports a couple platforms, m8.
>"countries such as yurop" - t. Obama
Thanks, Orbama..
