That happened with some Ubisoft games once with UPlay but I haven't heard of it happening with Windows licenses. I've purchased multiple Windows 10 Pro licenses on Kinguin some of which have been in use for more than 6 months.

Basically what can happen is some fuck will sell you a cheap key on some site like Reddit and you'll enter it and be happy it works.
Then at some point down the line the fuck who sold it to you will perform a chargeback on the key, which will in turn not make it valid once Microsoft manually disables said key.

Here is a tip.
All win 7 and win 8 keys work for ten. Just install 10 normally and click " I don't have a key" then go to activation and use the 7/8 key. It will work 100% of the time even if they never upgraded before.
