Why the fuck isn't anyone making a new thread edition

What's the front of that look like?

Please stop making these watch threads. I know you think you are doing a public service but you aren't. Enough is enough.

I normally don't like open dials, but that looks awesome.

Fuck off, faggot.

...

guys what was the name of the phenomenon where chinese watches will sometimes have stripes similiar to geneva stripes but not as good?

they were called like shanghai stripes or something but i can't find results under shanghai stripes

It's more commonly referred as "Beijing Stripes", although I have alse seen them as "Côtes de Beijing".

alright nice thanks

i also remember reading certain jewel colors are preferred by different places? do you know anything about this?

like blue for switzerland, red for china and purple for japan or something like that

>The best things the Russians ever engineered were things they stole or reverse engineered from Americans.
So... Their watches?

has anyone had experience ordering from smirs.com ? they sent me an invoice but I didn't hear back from them after paying it

>Patek Philippe
>Tiffany
>Grieb & Benzinger
>made in Germany
?????

>they skeletonized an 1889 Patek movement
what
the
fuck

I find your Language offensive and I have reported you.

Offensive language isn't against the rules. Announcing your report is, though.

To my knowledge there has only been two colors in modern synthetic jewels: the generally used red that comes from the time watchmakers used real pierced rubies, and white or "transparent" wich I have seen used by very few german indepents, although I don't know why.

Blued screws are obteined by heating steel so, besides various shades of blue, the color can't be changed in that process.

They also skeletonized an A. Lange und Söhne Tourbillon Pour Le Merit.

However, I think they actually pulled it off and made very interesting creations with both pieces.

My bad:
Apparently screws can also be heated to obtein brown, purple, grey and yellow shades.

>nametard admits he doesn't know what he's talking about

Checks out.

did you guys know about Seiya Japan's field watches? just ordered one for myself.

looks very nice! a lot of people here have expensive watches but this is just as good! wear it in good health!

So... how frustrated are you with your real life to pick on the fact that I made a mistake and amended it myself as soon as I realized I wasn't right?

Looks nice user. Congrats.

What's the size of it? Why did you choose to buy from them?

>implying you knew better

It looks a bit like a mark xi but it won't cost me $10k and be beat to shit. Seems like a win-win if you ask me. I'm rationalizing this to myself because I don't have any watches with the citizen 9015 movement.

>38mm wide, 41mm lug-to-lug, 11mm thick.

That lug-to-lug can't be right but it should be easy on my 165mm wrist.

>Why did you choose to buy from them?

I browse seiyajapan.com on occasion when I'm bored. I love fliegers and field watches. I think I actually have a few more that fit this description that aren't pictured.

What is your first language, my friend?

Get out, kid. You dumb Sup Forums children should go back to your containment board

Nice collection user!
If you ever get around taking a more including pic of your fliegers collection, please post it.

If you had to guess, my friend, what would you think is my native language?

No further action required. Mechanical watches now redundant.

spanish noble

Thanks. Nothing like your collection, that's for sure. They're not really the sole focus of my collection anymore but mil-inspired field watches and fliegers will always have a soft spot in my heart. I'm not sure why something as botched as the MK.II Hawkinge has been getting so much attention but I didn't find out about Seiya's watch until visiting the site earlier today.

Pleb here why does the Bezel on my watch go up to 24

Something Spanish/Italian or the like

Probably because it's a cheap watch trying to mimick a GMT-Master.

I'll have a go at making the Bulang and Sons strap tomorrow for my incoming sarb035.

god damnit, looking at Seiya's instagram he's got shots of this Seiko SUS that I need in my life

is there a name for the amount of space between the dial and the crystal? like dial clearance or something?

I was thinking it would be cool if a piece had almost no space between the dial and the crystal, just enough for some very flat hands. I think it would make the dial "pop" and make viewing angles excellent because it would be like wearing a dial on your wrist, instead of something akin to looking down a well to see the time (exaggeration) which is the norm.

is there such a thing as this? is there a name for this space between dial and crystal?

Or you can fill up the watch with oil.

And fuck up the movement?

>oil filled mechanical

...

Stop posting this or I'll buy it.

What is it anyways

Ressence
The dial side is oil-filled, and the movement moves the different indications with magnets (so it's just in air)

It's also $30k

Go ahead. It's +50k USD.
Have fun.

All jokes aside, the urban squale was right....

Wristcandy makes the best nylon nato I've bought so far..... Its light weight and bonded on the edges so it wont fray.

The cocksucker who owns the """"""""""""""""trademarks and copyrights""""""""""""""" for Nato straps and sells them on ebay would be the winner becuase they actually look a slight bit nicer but they arent fucking bonded on their edges.

Off the top of my head I have seen some Rado dress watches where the dial depth is minimal.

Cool

No they're not that expensive, the type 1 is something like 15k

Type 1 doesn't look like this.
Only type 3 have the magnets and are 30-55k depending on the model.

Overpriced for what it is, still nice.

Yep, you're right. I never looked into the Type 1 much and just assumed.
The Type 5 is oil-filled as well.

the fucking retard swapped out the movement for a pulsar quartz movement: reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/318s5w/seiko_7049_liquid_filled_quartz_conversion/

Would'n oil stop or slow down balance wheel tho?

Newermind, saw the link already

It's certainly interesting. You have to wonder why he didn't just start with one of Seiko's many quartz divers though.

Because Reddit needs to be nuked already.

Thats how I Rol

I'm going to send my Citizen watch for repair at official citizen service center, it stopped working a few days ago.

applied is better than embossed for things being put onto the watch dial right?

applied means more parts/cost/labor so generally better but it also depends on the style/look of the piece itself

>watch VR porn
>look down
>guy is wearing a Panerai on a bracelet

Why do people do this?

Why not? They were originally dive watches.

Both are in for repair
The Tissot has a broken winding stem
The Saiko has a detatched second hand and the weight for the automatic mechanism is loose.

Well, it seems like a 78X cal Tissot.

Pretty solid watches, and i think parts shouldn't be an issue to find.

>servicing a Seiko 5.

>Everyone and their grandfather has a speedy

I've seen this type of comment on /wt/ a few times.

Is it a meme?

I've lived in major urban centers like NYC and HK. I've seen a Speedmaster in real life (streets / metro / parties) maybe twice.

I've seen plenty of Rolex's , Breitling, Seiko's, Tags etc etc. When I do see Omegas it's usually dress watches or sea masters.

On watch collector's Instagrams, it's true enough.
And what good is a watch if it can't impress people online?

Pic of your shitter?

That power reserve is so damn cute

Yeah.
Why not?

It's the temperature of the oil inside the watch.

>Why not?
Buying a new one is about the same price as a service

Even more amazing

10€-15€ for the service or 70€-90€ for a new watch. Do the math.

Where do you get a watch serviced for 10€?

Local watchmaker in my town.
The 10-15€ are for the Seiko. (more likely 15€)
For the Tissot i dont yet have a quote.

I need to find a local watchmaker...

Nice speedmaster! Wear it in good health.

Meh might as well be a timex expedition.

apparently liquid doesnt really compress under extreme pressure, unlike gas. *apparently* you can have a watch completely filled with a light oil, which will make it a perfect dive watch.

Nuke operator user here.

I talked to the supervisors at the plant and they said all plastic watches are ok.... I'm having a hell of a time finding one that actually exists though. It seems every single plastic watch has a metal case back or crown or pushers etc.

his point is that this doesn't work if you fill the case of a mechanical watch, because the friction from the oil will make the balance really slow and use a lot of energy

Well, they're all going to have metal in the movement somewhere anyway.
Something like a Tissot Astrolon is mostly plastic, and the springs are still metallic.

You might struggle to find a completely plastic/resin watch. Even the F -91W has a steel caseback.

And it totally doesn't have any metal inside.

What a moron..

I hope you get rectal cancer.

I didn't think it needed to be said that I'm talking about an external all plastic watch.

There are high voltages in the plant on the order of 13kV or more and strong EM fields that can induce voltage so external metal is a concern.

They're out there.

Put this bad boy on a rubber strap

>God I LOATHE the Arabic numerals on JLC Master models.
Agree. Less is more. Though with lume more is more...

>The Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar is MILES better looking (and twice as expensive...)
Not bad though I would have preferred apertures for what is shown in the 3 sub dials.

Bump.

Considering this as my next purchase.

It's ugly

My collection

Soon Ill add either a sarb or an Orient diver

Nice.

What is /wt/s opinion on the vintage market?
Seems like a cheap entry into good quality

Something about these old Seamasters gets me

Fuck meant to quote
not that garbage

Risky.
