OK, so, I have one HD with Ubuntu installed, but Ubuntu isn't as free as other distros. I want to install Trisquel on it, but only on a part of it, not all of it. Could I? Which software should I use? Would it be safe to do? May I define that the same user folder be shared by both distros?

How about, instead of blaming users, you fix your damn code or stop claiming it works?
Logan Jackson
How am I going to fix the "damn code" if not a single on of you faggots file a bug report because you have no idea how?
Isaac Young
in cmus can you hide /home/user/ prefix in Track for Artist / Album to leave just Downlods/ Music/ etc ?
it should be safe use gparted to prepare partition(s) yes you should be able to share /home/
Tyler Wood
>fix your damn code it's free as in beer and free as in freedom. why haven't you fixed it yet?
Gavin Edwards
You make an extra root partition for trisquel and point it to the /home partition.

DEBIAN IS NOT LINUX DELETE THIS THREAD RIGHT NOW
You are all completely stupid. Debian is outdated and insecure. More over, it's just a noobuntu spin that was made to attract power users. All it's maintainers are SJW and the distro is sponsored by jews and the liberal media. The Debian project shows through it's public statements and manifests that it's clearly no aligned with the moral Christian values that made the US the great nation it came to be. It's degenerate.
Arch Linux is superior to it in every way. It has bleeding edge packages, what means more stability and security, since you get all the last bug fixes. It's rolling release, it doesn't randomly breaks during version updates. It's also more configurable and extensible. On overall you just have more control over your computer. Anyone that is serious about their OS uses Arch.

how could they fuck up SteamOS so badly, tried it out expecting it to be bad, but holy shit they fucked it up so much it felt like I was loading a console. Desktop mode is buggy as fuck, terminal doesn't open, eventually used xterm. ...GNOME so add debian repos, even more buggy. downloaded a 19GB game only to have it not configure properly and then finding it's not available on the 'big picture account'. wtf were they thinking? If they could just have a minimal DE, with accessible files better repos, configured solely to run games without turning the interface into Michelin man mode. gg steamOS R.I.P Having to resort to Ubuntu, but it's already 100 times better. So a heads up to anyone mad enough to use steamOS.

Currently running OpenSuse and I'm having trouble getting a Huion graphics tablet to work.
I've managed to get it set up on Mint and I've seen people get it working on Ubuntu so I know it can be done.
The distro shouldn't even matter as support for this model has been included since kernel 3.12.2
Any ideas on what to do?
Brayden Brooks
It's just a broken package. > installed something in a half assed way somewhere Maybe.

It's already installed.
It also asks for a bunch of other stuff, including libc, and I'm sure as hell not touching that. I think I fucked something up with locales 6 months ago. No man should have to go this deep into this nightmarish dependency abyss.

I own a used chink waltop (rebranded) tablet and it works fine under debian and ubuntu but struggled on fedora.
I don't know whether it will help you seeing as we're talking about completely different devices but I have a script that I used to get it working on fedora
You will obviously have to change the device names/id in the script but the script roughly guides you where to start

A bunch of random data will appear on the terminal, if you Ctrl+C it stops.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki//dev/random >In Unix-like operating systems, /dev/random is a special file that serves as a blocking pseudorandom number generator.
Austin Johnson
dev directory contains special device files.
cat prints data from files to your terminal
you can see what data that comes from every device.
do
cat /dev/input/mouse0 and wiggle your mouse a bit to see the output

What's up with pascal GPUs and linux? I own a gtx 760 and a 1060. I tried fedora, arch, and buntu and none of them will even boot the live environment on the 1060, but debian of all distros works out of the box on the 760. Is pascal just not supported? I need cuda so I can't pick up 480 or I would.

Heyo! I've got Debian running on my laptop. However, I've ran into an issue:
My laptop is effected by a bug. It doesn't work properly with linux 4.8.0.
I use Debian Testing. Obviously, I can just install Linux 3.16.
I upgraded to Debian Testing from Jessie. I retained by 3.16 kernel from that install. If i removed linux-image-4.0.0, would I be fine? When trying to remove it, it prompts for the removal of linux-image-amd64. apt-cache show info linux-image-amd64 shows the following:
Linux for 64-bit PCs (meta-package) This package depends on the latest Linux kernel and modules for use on PCs with AMD64, Intel 64 or VIA Nano processors.
So just to confirm, removing the newer kernel will just result in the removal of that kernel, leaving 3.16 intact?

It's actually completely harmless
just make sure you save your work and try it out.
depending on your computer's performance and the amount of memory at disposal it might take a will but your machine will freeze or crash because of resource starvation.
Never run commands you don't know what they do. Other "unix jokes" are not as harmless as a fork bomb
Andrew Evans
hey. sorry for shitty question but i can't really make sense of the answers i'm getting on google. i want the output of my commands to be a different color than the input, and i want the output to start one line below the input.
for example, what i currently have is this: user@machine:~$ grep --help Usage: grep [OPTION]... PATTERN [FILE] ... Search for PATTERN in each FILE or standard input. Example: grep -i 'hello world' menu.h main.c
what i want is this: user@machine:~$ grep --help
Usage: grep [OPTION]... PATTERN [FILE] ... Search for PATTERN in each FILE or standard input. Example: grep -i 'hello world' menu.h main.c where the color is different from "Usage" to "main.c"
Is this possible?
Elijah Jones
:(){ :|: & };:
means
gay() { gay | gay & }
gay
So it's a function that executes itself and pipes (|) that to itself and runs it in the background (&) and then it runs the function (the last gay). This means once you run the function it will spawn two copies of itself and each copy two more, so in a short period of time you will have no memory left.

I'm using debian testing at the moment. I understand that some distros exhibit better preformance because they use certain flags while compiling software. I have an optimal set of flags for my system but is there any software actually worth recompiling with them? My most use application is chromium by far, and everything else is just an electron wrapper really, like skype and discord. I'd like to use -g2 -O3 -pipe -fexceptions -fstack-protector -m64 -march=westmere -mtune=native -malign-data=abi
Gavin Hall
>If i removed linux-image-4.0.0, would I be fine? If you are not using the kernel you can safely remove it.
>When trying to remove it, it prompts for the removal of linux-image-amd64. apt-cache show info linux-image-amd64 That's because linux-image-amd64 is basically a link package to the latest kernel. If are using a specific version of a kernel you can remove it. packages.debian.org/stretch/linux-image-amd64
Adrian Brown

no, i want it to do that for every command. i want all outputs to be a different color than the input, and i want all outputs to start one line below the input.
Easton Peterson
Make sure you are actually using the kernel you think you're using and don't forget that this means you will no longer get kernel updates unless you keep Jessie repositories for that package because 3.16 is only on Jessie repositories.
