Use a filesystem that isn't read only you fucking retard.
Aaron Powell
>fopen: Read-only file system Have you considered using a read-and-write file-system for your writing?
Isaac Wilson
That's nothing, try using Debian to uninstall something and it will also want you to uninstall your entire DE, and a thousand other critical packages. "Oh surely you mean remove everything"
Ian Thompson
Its my mother ubuntu.
Its basic ubuntu installation. She could not fuck anything because I have password for root and I use it only for >sudo apt-get update >sudo apt-get upgrade
Jonathan Lopez
That "something" wasn't systemd by any chance?
Adam Price
Is there a reason you're using the command line instead of the software updater application?
Joshua Robinson
"You have unused packages/unlinked libraries, use 'autoremove' to remove them" famous Le Debian system wipe
Xavier Thomas
It's nice to hear you used the perfectly clear output to fix the obvious error you made instead of posting shit about stuff you don't understand.
Samuel King
I ssh to mommy notebook.
Alexander Clark
Because it's faster, more verbose and doesn't need a fukken mouse?
Connor Myers
I remember there was some exploit for ubuntu updates/notifier posted few week ago.
Anyone remember details?
Eli Reed
As if that works.
>clean Ubuntu LTS install >open the software updater application >update everything and also install system updates through it >restart >no DE after that at all, just the wallpaper >maybe I just need to restart again >nope, doesn't work >fuck it, reinstall everything >run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade >some error about being unable to read or write something >oh great >let's restart again >surprisingly it hasn't broken yet >run update and upgrade commands again >FINALLY it works and doesn't break anything
Ubuntu sucks.
Jaxson Walker
Ok I reboot notebook.
0 drivers working. >no drivers for eth/wifi >no bright screen control >no sound
its kill
BRAVO canonical
Matthew Mitchell
Fuck why I did this update.
Next time I will install it and wll not change a snigle shit as long as it works.
Wyatt Wright
Probably fucked up filesystem
congratulations
Jack King
The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display does not have this problem.
Thomas Long
only if I could affor new mb, but my country does not liberate oil based countries in the name of freedom and my country currency has much lower purchasing power
Ryder Ortiz
Read only filesystem. Why is the file system read only how did you manage to do that. I've been on linux for years and have no idea how to do that.
Ethan Cook
loonix is malware, why would you ever install it out of your own free will?
Wyatt Evans
Why would you lie on the Internet?
Angel Campbell
I was using 14.04.4
Nicholas Hill
it means your disk is fucked you goddamn moron
Sage
Benjamin Mitchell
fsck that shit
Logan Clark
>sudo zypper update
>needing two commands to update your software >current year >not using openSUSE
lol
Sebastian Cruz
Did you try to update an embedded system or something?
Lucas Powell
openpepe has a 4.7gb DVD and the network installer is fucked. Ubuntu minimal is like 55mb iso and you can manually select packages with a fully updated system on boot.
no other distro has such a friendly installer, aside from Debian/Ubuntu.
Joshua Sanders
...
Kayden King
hmmm OP here
is it possible that update & upgrade would crash whole system due to some hdd bad sector?
because after this update crash all drivers crashed
I can not use bluetooth, usb, cam, speakers, brightness, gpu acceleration
its just working but like with very basic stuff
If I was fucked up hdd then why it was working properly last 4months?
Kevin Jackson
Version 17 is fine, 18 is a buggy piece of shit just like ubuntu 16
Jayden Evans
>no other distro has such a friendly installer How is this still the case?
Antergos' installer requires a connection and is a occasionally buggy but allows you choose a DE during install. Why isn't that more popular than a dozen iso "flavours"?
Henry Howard
I got a similar problem on arch. The disk had shat itself. Try rebooting and/or running fsck if it doesn't force it on its own.
This I got too. Run fsck.
Run fsck. Storage media dying is finnicky and weird, don't question it. Pay your local machine god some service, burn some incense, cleanse it of dust, offer it RAM.
Josiah White
Your filesystem is read obly because of a possible ext4 error, preventing further shitting itself, fsck -y it
John Martinez
In my particular case, because installing proprietary catalyst requires an older xorg, only found by default in manjaro.
Jeremiah Cooper
>he fall for amd jew
Hudson Cooper
I just don't want to be part of Arch/Aur ecosystem. I began learning Linux with Debian and apt, I am okay with it.
Manjaro is a nice distro though, their implementation of xfce and kde is very sexy.
Isaac Collins
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you're such a fucking retard
Logan Reyes
>apt-get
Owen Young
It has worse problems
Leo Perez
Nonsense.
THIS.
Ubuntu fucked with me twice. Since 2 years I'm using Ubuntu and I'm more happy than ever.
Ian Ortiz
Ahh, sorry. I meant:
"Since 2 years I'm using Mint and I'm more happy than ever."
>inb4 it's "happier" not "more happy"
Oliver Foster
reported
Adrian Ramirez
>it means your disk is fucked you goddamn moron
This. How wasn't this the first thing suggested? Last time that happened to me was when my aging HD fucked itself. It's your filesystem protecting itself from further damage.
Colton Brooks
Why are you blaming linux for an apt-get error?
John Perez
I had to delete a bunch of snapshots as BTRFS was using up too much space for them. Just if you get read-only file system with BTRFS just google for help.
>can't install arch right >windows just werks >everyone an autist except me
Dylan Miller
>automatic restarts No thanks.
Oliver Stewart
your file sytem is read only is set to read only ur doing this on the live cd?
Dominic Jones
>Install windows 10 >No network drivers so need to use another computer to get the drivers. >Update takes forever. >Install the drivers from windows update. >No sound. >Search the driver from the manufacturer's site. >Ok, no problem. >Suspiciously high storage drive usage. >Processes using high amount of resources for no reason. >Forced updates, give up trying to customize it because the updates sets the defaults again. >No more possibility to know what are the updates about. >Error messages are not useful. >Must uninstall crap often but gets installed again. >Cannot disable cortana. >Pretty obvious i don't control my OS. >Read MS privacy statement. >Fuck this shit. >Install windows 7. >No drivers, must hunt them this time. >mfw i read that MS is issuing updates that backports W1's bullshit to windows 7. >mfw i must use third party programs and be careful with the updates to protect myself from my own software provider.
Owen Campbell
>At some moment got interested into looking for other software providers. >Don't want to buy hardware and hackingtosh seems a fucking hassle so don't care about apple for the moment. >Download ubuntu mate installation media. >Try to boot but get black screen. >Literally first google result tells me how to start with nomodeset and how to install the proprietary nvidia drivers. >Proceed to install. >reboot. >Start again with nomodeset. >Update OS (extremely fast compared to windows) and install nvidia drivers from a GUI. >reboot. >mfw everything works, no need to search for drivers. >discovers dolphin, youtube-dl, clementine, playonlinux, kdenlive, krita, etc. >Comfy as fuck. >Discover my previous MS office documents don't work fine always. >Read about the problem and discovers MS issued an standard they don't respect and no one know how it got approved something like that. >Around half of my steam games are not avilable on linux. >Read about it and discover how closed technologies can work as lock-in mechanism. >mfw going back to windows would be like begging to be mistreated. >mfw i would be actively supporting to make worse this situation. >nope >Use my computer normally but try to save my documents in open formats when possible to avoid being locked out from them and try to reward those developers who uses a multi-platform approach.

Why not? It has everything you'll ever need and then some.
David Parker
I call them jews because I am stuck on old X.org because those retard are too busy multiplaying cores in their cpu so they will not have a time to make small fix in their old driver.
Joshua Fisher
>small regardless, what specific features do you need in the newer versions?
Jordan Bailey
look its the >i have no idea what metapackages do but i always run 'sudo apt-get remove XYZ && sudo apt-get autoremove --purge -y'
James Sanchez
I can not install fglrx on new X.org
Elijah Campbell
>literally too dumb for Windows No, linux is much more convenient, simple as that.
Michael Wood
the "no drivers ootb" part is pretty accurate desu. Every time i have to do a clean windows install on a new pc for someone i take an ubuntu usb because 100% windows wont have any drivers either to wifi or the ethernet card and i need to download them from linux.
Adrian Perry
*100% of the time. This also applies to windows 10 unfortunately.
Tyler Jones
