street shitters are attracted to the smell of shit

Displayport 1.4 has enough bandwidth for 144hz 4K HDR?

No. DP 1.4 maxes out at 32Gb

>DP 1.4
>4k@144Hz + HDR

Lol nope

Maybe they expect you to play at 60Hz with HDR

Or use MST... Jesus fuck hell no

is that thing projecting the logo?
jesus christ

>ROG Swift PG27UQ features two DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI port for 4K UHD content playback and versatile connectivity

what if it uses tandem DP for max specs

How the fuck can they make a 144Hz 4K HDR monitor when displayport only supports 120Hz 4K (with HDR off)? Don't tell me they got it running off 2 cables.

It's called MST and it's fucking buggy junk on both Windows AND Linux

it should be called DP-DP

Yep, it uses MST and it fucking sucks. Expect tons of bugs, glitches and input lag.

Wow. It's like the first wave of 4k monitors a few years ago, remember those 4k 30Hz dells?

HAHAHA.
I'll never buy a monitor that needs two cables to run at its full specs ever again, it's a nightmare with multiple monitors and sleep state.

I don't get why anyone would be all worked up over this anyway
what the fuck are you going to be running at 144hz@4k anyway?
fucking crysis?

so dudes we have a monitor but
no cables or GPU to run it fucking great :-)

Who's getting worked up? It's literally like a assault rifle with half the magazine capacity because of the useless MST shit it requires until DP1.5 or whatever's it called gets to monitors.

Heh, thought 4k 144 hz was already a thing, guess not

I've been waiting for high refresh rate IPS panels for a while, a 4K one would be perfect.

Is it confirmed that it'll be dual DP to achieve the refresh rate? What is the refresh rate using one cable?

>4K for general usage
>Drop down to 1080p for fps gaymes

I don't see the problem.

Probably 60hz

4k general usage is fucking useless if you ever used a 4k screen in Windows or Linux without bumping up the DPI.

It's only good for games at the moment and some movies.
A screen that forces you to choose between 4k@144(120Hz?) without HDR or 4k@60Hz with HDR is pointless.

>4K 144hz gsync IPS w/ 10 bit DCI-P3 colorspace
now while all that sounds like some fucking wet dream, this article is clearly 100% bullshit and reveals itself to be so in one single statistic
>1,000cd/m2 brightness
not a single computer monitor on the market is that bright. Even Asus prior top monitor, the PG279Q, was only 350cd/m2

1000cd/m2 screens do exist, but they're made for shit like portable TV's that you're supposed to be able to see while outside.

Sounds janky as fuck. Can DP 1.4 do 1440p 144hz HDR? Might be cool. Not like 4K 144Hz is useful, SLI Titan X wouldn't be good enough for that

enjoy your scaling

or how about we wait for the graphics cards to support the resolution instead of dicking around with half supported jank

>Can DP 1.4 do 1440p 144hz HDR?
No, 144Hz without HDR or 60Hz with HDR

Can't you just drop it 4:1:0 Chroma and still get 144hz + HDR?

Not really

4k on my 28" monitor is quite an improvement over lower resolutions.

this just in
manufacturers measure brightness, contrast ratio, and response time in their own special ways

>can't you just drop the image quality to get this higher image quality

Sup Forums

Get better eyes shitskin.

Get better eyes indian.

DP 1.4 has enough bandwidth to do 240Hz 1440p no HDR. At least 120Hz HDR should be doable.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Resolution_and_refresh_frequency_limits_for_DisplayPort

> Requires the use of Display Stream Compression (DSC); 24 bit/px RGB color and CVT-RB timing is assumed

No dice.

measuring nits is pretty fuckin standard

k
enjoy your high FPS desktop
on your $1000+ monitor

That's for 4K. I'm talking about 1440p.

You'll get a 4k monitor to play at 1440p?

Of course DP 1.4 can do HDR 1440p@144hz.

>that AYYLMAO design

I'm not talking about buying a 4K monitor at all. My post was about a hypothetical 144hz 1440p HDR monitor.

There's already those out there.

Wtb a monitor that supports both 4k and 144hz. My budget is small so it doesnt have to support both at the same time.

I found the dell s2817q which is a 28inch 4k 60hz screen. 2 sites mention it of being 144hz capable at 1080p resolutions even if it doesnt say so in the specs. i want this for high speed action games and smooth gameplay is extremely important to me, but i also want a 4k screen ready for the future.

Is there any way to check if this 144 hz is true or not? Are there other screens that support this?
Should i get a gsync screen instead of 144hz?

>gaymen design

I fucking hate this trend

jesus christ, are there any other monitors on the market just like this except without the damn 'republic of gamer' theme? every time i see their products i throw up a little in my mouth

Needs a 23-24 inch form factor. 27 is too big of a screen for gaming.

>that fuckhuge bezel
nope

I just hope it will drive prices down on the PG279Q

I want that sweet 1440p 144hz IPS

no
when you're asking for what is strictly gamer features in hardware, you should have to deal with the gamer branding

don't like the stand? that's what fucking mounts are for

4k is great and proper scaling is amazing in win 10, ubuntu, mac, ect. The only reason not to get 4k in 2017 is if you don't have the spending money available.

Variable sync seems of diminished value for 120+ Hz monitors, and even more-so for UHD@120+Hz given the power of current high-end GPUs.

That said, I'll not turn down UHD@120Hz monitors in general.

This or rog swift ultrawide

>lcd anything in 2017
>implying there are any hdr games

True, but it is gsync, so even if your only averaging 80 fps your still getting a 80 experience. And a single top of the line current Gen card can pull that on most titles. Add in slightly and or install whatever comes out next year and you will be golden.

Why is adaptice sync not perfect for a 4K display where GPUs can't reach those high hz consistently? That's kind of the point of adaptive sync

120hz is pointless when 144hz exists.

Judder on 60 Hz/16.6 ms frames is a lot more perceptible than jitter on 120 Hz/8.3 ms or better frames.

And judder is worst midway between even fractions in display frequency, e.g. 40-50 fps or ~25 fps on a 60 Hz display.
With a 120 Hz display, judder would be most noticeable around 85-95 fps (or 100-115 fps for 144 Hz), and even Titan X/1080 Ti/Vega aren't even close to that on UHD yet.

Unfortunately, DP 1.3/1.4 caps out at 120 Hz for 24 bpp and 96 Hz for 30 bpp HDR.
Some might also argue about the tiny amount of judder a 144 Hz display has for 60 fps TV content, but it's never bothered me.

Turn settings on high instead of ultra (like everybody who has a monitor more powerful than their GPU would do) and you're smack in the middle of the 80's-90's, lower gpus would vary across 40-60fps, which I think gsync would be vital for

You can easily adjust settings to get 4K 144fps with something like a Titan XP, you don't think ultramaxed benchmarks are the only performance metrics that exist right?

On CSGO I could do 144hz 4K without a GPU

Is 27" even good for 4K? Why not get 32" with that resolution?

>qdot >va >4k >144hz

haha this thing is going to cost 2 grands atleast

they milk the rich kids before the best gets available from other vendors

I'm calling it now at $1299

32" is a fucking TV

27" is seriously the biggest monitor I can stand

Cool, ASUS, but where's the bandwidth to support all those marketing tickboxes?

The point is high pixel density.

amazon.com/Samsung-34-Inch-Widescreen-Monitor-C34F791/dp/B01M1D7JVO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483569951&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung CF791

this already costs a grand, even more in germany

1440 vs 2160p
350cdm vs 1000cdm
100hz vs 144hz
gsync to top it off

If you sit with your face 4 inches from your screen it's good
You don't have to gaze into the distance to see the corner of your screen
32" is better for 4K imo, but it just gets impractical on the normal desk/monitor setup

I got my PG279Q for $600, which is basically the 1440p, non-HDR version of this monitor

Oh shit CES stuff being released

I just want 2k @ 144hz with decent price

Anyone see anything like that?

its for gamers

idiots

i would compare it more to a 1000$ hdr ready ips tv to an oled tv which starts at 2100$

Good thing it's not OLED and not a tv

it's worse, it has to be color accurate, the gsync scaler must be completely rewritten for quantum dot, not to mention hdr content. and nobody said a thing about this yet.

the costs involved with this are not foreseeable

in comparison to amd about freesync 2
youtube.com/watch?v=y4FQbVwirKM

>enjoy your scaling

Scaling a perfectly squared resolution like 4K to 1080p is near flawless since it's a 2x2 pixel ratio scale.

>>gaymen design

Yeah bro where's all the 144hz graphic design monitors.

I think he meant 'enjoy your 4k screen with a bloated up UI and now it looks like a 1080p screen'

The costs of this will not be translated into the price of this
The price of this will be adjusted for the fact that it's the only 4K monitor with either g sync or 144hz, that's how it's gonna be priced, not because they had to make a 2-displayport g sync module, but because they have "the best" and can charge whatever the fuck they want for it

>icons are 1% of the 1080p screen, perfect size
>icons are 1% of the 4K screen, suddenly people think it's shit

he is talking about the horrendous unmanly look of the monitor

not for long though. ces 2017 has some more hdr monitors in charge

1% of a glass of water and 1% of a barrel of water are quite different.

Yeah but I could also believe that asus is the only one pushing 4K high hz screens

>1% of 27" isn't the same as 1% of 27"
>B-B-But muh icons could be 16x16 instead of 32x32!

Acer is probably going to be the only other company to release a monitor like this for awhile. It'll probably be like the 144Hz 1440p IPS monitors that are out now where both Asus and Acer are using the same panel and both of them are basically the same price.

That's nonsense, ASUS doesn't make these screens, you can be sure Acer and maybe BenQ will have them out soon as well.

Where did this 144Hz 4k panel come from anyway? Who's the manufacturer?

>Tandem DP

lmao get the fuck out of here

Yeah just like benq has the 1440p 144hz IPS screens that are "so common" because acer and asus use them

How does that answer my question?

Toyota makes the panel, it came from New Jersey

asus doesn't produce the screens so it will become way more available then you'd think

asus can license a specific type of panel they get offered by the company (in this case samsung probably) for their selling purpose

but this will show in their pricing like their previous gsync monitors did in comparison to freesync.

there is no an an almost 400€ gap between the PG279 and MG279 monitor (144hz/ips/freesync vs gsync)

I got the acer xg270hu for about 200-250 dollars. It's 144hz and 1440p. It's TN but the colors are pretty good.

You know, it's common sense to just be quiet when you don't know something, or better yet, ask? Not pretend you're hot shit and make a fool outta yourself.

G sync is priced higher because they have to buy licensed gsync modules from nvidia, not because they need some fancy proprietary screen
Don't be a noob, acer and asus are pulling the exact same shit right now with 1440p 144hz IPS, there's like 3 options for that total and I believe all from acer/asus
Don't expect a chinkshit version of this monitor for a while

Everyone besides AU Optronics has been slow as snails to adopt high refresh IPS monitors, so I'm guessing it's either them or Samsung, LG it's not because LG uses its own name for IPS, could be Sharp if they still make them?

The design is badass, honestly.

Why don't you go there to the booth and ask asus yourself instead of complaining that Sup Forums doesn't know the manufacturing origin of a product released today

Even if I did ask the PR guy at the ASUS booth wouldn't know.

dunno..

staying with my eizo foris 2735 chinkshit panel for a while until a freesync 2 panel arrives which has the same specs for the money except true HDR, maybe even 34" 21:9

the samsung would be totally be my panel but it won't feature hdr throughput afterwards

So clearly we do
Now is not the time to be autistic, don't ask stupid questions and then use them as scapegoats when you don't know what to say

>LG uses its own name for IPS
Nope. It's samshit and they call it PLS.

Gsync, vsync and freesync are the biggest memes ever.

No.

Kill yourself.
