What are the specs going to be on this thing?
What are the specs going to be on this thing?
I know some leak alleged it was powered by a Tegra X1, but I'll assume for the sake of all parties involved that this isn't the case. If that was true it would mean Nintendo bought actual scrap chips that would be otherwise thrown away. More so being a leaky 20nm planar part the perf/watt of the X1 is just awful under load. If clocks actually were pushed down to reported levels then the total performance would be unspeakably poor as well.
I would hope that its using a new design.
Beyond that, who really cares? Its a stupid concept.
Needs at least 4+ hours of battery life for me to ever consider it. Preferably 8 or more, but that's likely not possible due to size/weight limitations.
Better than we expect but worse than we would hope
I'm waiting. This will either be used exclusively indoors, outdoors or not at all like the wii u.
-nvidia trash
-720p screen
-32gb internal storage
-no expandable memory slot
-games will run at 480/540p 60fps scaled to 720p
-4 hour battery life
also forgot:
-tn panel
>>-720p screen
>-32gb internal storage
>-no expandable memory slot
>-games will run at 480/540p 60fps scaled to 720p
Don't know if that's confirmed but all of that sounds much like Nintendo.
There will be smartphones more powerful than it
and the games on it will be of a similar caliber
I think I read it was confirmed IPS.
It's probably X1 on a different process/node with a large framebuffer cache. I think every single platform they've put out had that.
n64 - don't remember
GC - 2MB
wii - 4MB
wiiu 32MB
Nividia showed the specs yesterday youtube.com
It outputs 4K 60fps.
maybe when emulating atari
No one would go through the trouble, spend millions of dollars, to port an out dated and inferior part to a bleeding edge node. There is no point in essentially redesigning an entire SoC only to leave it the same.
256 Kepler shaders at low clocks is not enough for gaming, even at 720p. Thats only 40% of a 750ti, and with a fraction of the clock speed. It simply couldn't handle gaming.
The shield tv runs on the same shit from last year because they are using Xavier for cars and a "private client"
Why are shills so cruel?
Intel Pentium g3258 + Nvidia GTX750ti + 4GB RAM. Enough for Nintendo games.
>Kepler
It's maxwell.
Slip of the fingers, The 750ti is Maxwell.
>games will run at 480/540p 60fps scaled to 720p
If they're actually going to do shit like that they should at least do something like qHD scaled to FullHD, or even just a qHD screen since that'd be the native res anyway.
I don't really care as long as it has enough jRPGs with barely dressed teenage girls
Who fucking cares.
Who the fuck cares?
>hype for for 3rd party shovelware
Nintendo is fucked since they're japanese. 2016 showed us how japanese tech has stagnated, 2017 is the year of xbox and Microsoft.
Get cucked sony and nintendo.
oddly, people will pay $500-$700 for a smart phone, which is what they
usually end up costing with your contract, but they won't pay the same price for a console.
much better than the 3DS and that is all that matters, I have a PC for graphics jerking
a smartphone is easier to justify and more inherently useful than a console
easier to justify? sure, but we haven't seen a $600 console since the NeoGeo days. Who knows how 'useful' one would be if it had current tech a that price.
Except the Xbox one is a failure
>58361177
6" 720p IPS Screen
nVidia Tegra X1
4GB Ram
MicroSD Memory Expansion
5000 Mah Battery
>Who knows how 'useful' one would be if it had current tech a that price.
no matter what the specs a console will ultimately still just play games while a smartphone does that and a lot more and can be taken places
people who want an expensive high-end gaming platform go for PCs anyway, the point of a console isn't to have the best graphics and performance, it's to have consistently good graphics and performance enough to enjoy a lot of games over a long period of time at a low cost
...
you forget
>300 dollars
It's $250 for the basic package. $300 for the Splatoon bundle
I work at FYE btw
Outstanding for a portable of its price range. Just like the Shield portables.
It will be DOA if it costs more than 200 dollars
Except the hype is 10x that of the Wii U
Why?
>nintentoddlers believe this
Sony will drop the price of the slim to 200 in march.
The Switch is reportedly running on the new Pascal X1 chip not the Maxwell or Kepler one it should have around 1.3-1.4 TFLOPS I forgot the shaders but it's on wikipedia go look instead of guessing, Nvidia designed this one just for Nintendo
Now thats what I call a horrendously uninformed post.
Tegra Denver's IGP is just 256 ALUs. Pascal actually has lower IPC than Maxwell, pipeline length was increased to facilitate higher clocks to offset lower IPC.
If it was 256 Pascal shaders at 300mhz~ you should be weeping. They'd have to clock the IGP to 2000mhz just to hit 1TFLOP single precision. Not happening.

Blame it on the bourbon
On the bright side, people have already got Dolphin emulator up and running on the Tegra TK1/TX1. I don't know about WiiU, but everything else should be easily emulated.
Nintendo will do well with this device.
I don't think Switch and PS4 will fight for the same market, unless Sony releases a portable PS4. The main selling point of the Switch is that you can take the thing with you. If Nintendo pulls this off well enough, PS4 owners will be curious as well.
What are the chances of a OLED screen?
If not, they can release another game on iPhone and pay for the next console.
Negative 5%
Not to mention that shitendo's selling point has never been the hardware on its own. It's sure as fuck not the reason I'm interested in it.
>480p
No, Dolphin does not run well on the X1. A very few select titles with tons of optimizations/low accuracy settings run well enough to be playable.
One of the late night tv show hosts did a demo with one. The screen has shitloads of glare, bad angles, and doesn't look that great. Its not OLED.
Very low. OLED is luxury hardware, and Nintendo is fucking cheap.
ps3
Wew, mad. Calm down, chaps. These are toys we're talking about.
>nintendo
>good screen
pick one
Can't recall a Nintendo handheld with a bad screen. Except maybe the GBA, because it wasn't lit, and they fixed that.
Aside from some audio issues, I got the impression it worked pretty well.
youtube.com
>he doesn't remember the pea soup display
I was stoked for this actually until it was confirmed as digital only output; my television is a 62" 1920x1080 Panasonic boardroom plasma display, the kind you can't touch in use and was never produced for consumer markets, at some point it must have been ordered in by a company before it made its way to me.
It lacked any inputs when I received it but with some googling I was able to source a logic board expansion which gave it HD component input, an analogue input as you know.
There IS a HDMI logic board which would connect to the display but apparently the firmware is incapable of using it.
Basically, I'd rather keep the massive extremely high quality display I currently have than replace it just for a games console.
>>I work at FYE btw
oh god user...I'm sorry....
for a third time?
Project Scorpio will be coming out this year. It could overtake the PS4 if it's a new console and not just a 4K-capable Xbone.
In the video on the site they say it'll be compatible with Xboner games so I'm pretty sure it's a new console
???
I just said the hardware isn't really as big a deal with Nintendo stuff, it's the games.
It's gonna be shit under the hood, that's pretty much expected, but I don't really care because it still sounds way better than the anemic as shit 3DS and good enough that the games I want to play on it will probably be able to see a lot of significant feature enhancements.
Last time I looked it up Microsoft said they won't be making any Scorpio-specific game, so chances are it'll be a PS4 Pro-style upgrade.
I guarantee you both companies will go back on those statements. While sony/microsoft won't develop things like that initially, third parties will, and even if they won't be exclusives, there will still be a different version for the higher end console.
every single nintendo handheld has had a terrible screen, what the fuck are you smoking?
>What are the specs going to be on this thing?
powerful enough to run Nintendo's games
This piece of shit WILL make Nintendo bankrupt
>mfw consoles will be dead in our lifetime
>there will still be a different version for the higher end console.
Not necessarily. A lot of previously released PS4 games just enable Pro compatibility via patches (no need for a separate version). I would imagine Sony enforces a compatibility policy in which developers must make their Pro-compatible games run on the base model as well.
as long as it plays stardew valley fine and I can transfer my gamesave from PC I'll be happy
There have never been a handheld able to handle 8 hours on its own battery.
False.
>This piece of shit WILL make Nintendo bankrupt
Don't underestimate the fanboys, but considering most japs jumped on mobiles, I can see it happen.
Mediocre.
