Acer Switch Alpha 12

>i5 6200U
>8GB ram
>256GB SSD
>9 hours battery life with light use
>keyboard (backlit) can be detached
>precision touchpad
>completely fanless (liquid cooling)
>touchscreen
>2160 x 1440 display (12 inch)
>good linux support and it seems to run google's new OS too
>2 cameras
>$700 CAD

I bought one of these brand new and it seems like a pretty good deal, it's basically a Surface Pro for much, much cheaper. But I'm worried about it being an Acer and the long run reliability of the notebook. The "liquid cooling" system seems too revolutionary for a small notebook and also those specs for the price seem too good to be true.

Does anyone have experience with Acer laptops/notebooks?

>Googles new OS
Tell me more...

This acer i got is going on sixth year

Thats not a notebook

Probably talking about Andromeda

What happened to fushia

2 in 1, whatever is it.

Its a tablet with accessories.

Damn that keyboard looks like crap. Why does the back need to balance against a table to stay upright that makes it a lot less versatile

fuchsia.googlesource.com/magenta/ /master/docs/targets/acer12.md

A "tablet" with an i5, 8GB of ram and a 256GB SSD.

But its a tablet, not a notebook, not a laptop, not a 2 in 1.

>Why does the back need to balance against a table
Trying to copy the Surface pro

you are right to be worried, its an acer, and its shit. cheap stuff that sounds too good to be true is generally that, too good to be true.

It feels like a laptop/notebook to me, that's how I'm gonna use it.

>completely fanless (liquid cooling)
what did this leaf mean by this?

Buy I'm pretty sure this category of Surface clones is best known as 2-in-1, or occasionally convertibles. I know you're just memeing for Sup Forums cred, but stop being a fag for a second or two.

...

I costs 800 USD for this model, liar

It means the thing has a small liquid loop and no fans.

My gf uses my old Acer for playing sims 4.

It's an Ivy bridge i7 with gt640m. Still working perfectly.

I got a refurb + the store had a discount.

Does it throttle on load much?

Haven't tested it myself but apparently it doesn't throttle much.

>Buy our display profiles

2 in 1 are notebooks with 360 hinges.

This and the surface are tablets with kickstands and detachable keyboard covers.

>Does anyone have experience with Acer laptops/notebooks?
Pure garbage, avoid at all costs. They cheap out on the build quality and sometimes the internals as well.

Yeah... I thought the switch series were neat but they are slow as fuck throttle a lot and I've had two break in my household, they just stopped turning on.

>throttle a lot

>We started off with 100% CPU load for about an hour and to be honest, we were quite surprised by the results. The chip maintained maximum operating frequency for two active cores (2.7 GHz) for the better part of the test. Then the chip started running at 2.4 – 2.6 GHz but still no thermal throttling.
>As Acer accurately advertised, the device is capable of handling more demanding tasks and the performance is on par with a normal 15-inch laptop. The LiquidLoop cooling system is excellent and withstood our extreme test quite well.

>Pure garbage, avoid at all costs. They cheap out on the build quality and sometimes the internals as well.

personal experience or just stuff you've read on Sup Forums?

I had an acer aspire switch 12 that broke once under warranty and then the refurbished unit they sent me also broke a few weeks out of warranty. I hardly ever used it it was for my mother. Thing was painfully slow even when it wasn't throttling. It was one of the z series atom models.

you forgot to quote me, but no. I had a laptop which feature an AMD Sempron I believe and 1GB of RAM, the fucking thing overheated in the first two years of ownership the bearing fucked up. The battery cracked in my backpack the screen is shit since its tuned to the warmer side of the spectrum with no way of changing that. Every Acer laptop I have seen is cheap plastic garbage.

Also the battery life was garbage.

Disregard anything that tripfag says. He loves to troll.

I do, but this time I'm serious. I wouldn't touch anything from acer unless it's a monitor

Your mothers from Asus and I touch her bum every day KEK

I said Acer, underage b&

Asus made your mum mum.
My Willy in her bum bum.

Please stop this

>atom
>AMD Sempron

How many centuries ago was that? Any recent experience?

Collateral trollage.

Your dum mum loves my Willy in her Asus bum

Like 2-3 years ago.
Acer is garbage. My grandparents bought a desktop and there wasn't enough glue for the ACER logo to stay on, it literally fell apart.

Have you actually used one? They are much different from a convertible and should be treated as such.

I believe it was 4~ years ago It was a computer from 2009 I believe. Still no reason to feel like I was typing into shit and looking at piss.

They have these at Costco for $649. Seems like a legit Surface Pro 4 for half the price.

bump

...

>ITT: retards who don't know basically all laptops are made in the same chink factories by the same workers... from Dells to Acers to even Macs.

Just Google Compal or Quanta.

>Acer Switch Alpha 12
>Amazon 749.99 USD

Just get a fucking Surface 4. Literally the same price and the same specs with the Surface pro having a 3k screen, discrete gpu and windows 10 pro. Better pen too.

I don't see any Surface Pro with those specs at $700. The cheapest one is $699 and has a shitty core M and 4gb of ram.

amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-Intel-Core/dp/B01606IDL0/
This one is $1039

The i5 256 ssd 8 gb ram was 300 bucks off at Best Buy literally 2 weeks ago, then you could get another 100 bucks off by claiming to be a student.

It's still a lot more expensive 99% of the time when not in Christmas promotions.

>Acer

personal experience for me, I have the Acer Aspire AMD FX-7500 laptop

super shit build

in span of 6 months, the keyboard went dead, the fan went dead, occasional turning off, makes creaking noises whenever I flip it open

There's a reason why Acer is upto 500 USD cheaper from other laptops with similar specs

Anybody here actually has one of these? How is the 12 inches screen size doing for you? Not too small for writing and stuff?

ThinkPad Edge E560
For the same price you'd have :
SSD (a shit one, but...)
Radeon R7 M370
i7-6500U

Acer laptops are the most bloated things I've ever used. And the programs reinstall.

t. year long acer user

But none of the nice design or portability.
>1366 x 768
seriously?

that's how every fucking heatpipe works
they just made a longer heatpipe and bend it in a loop and called it liquid loop wow much innovation

Liquid cooling in a laptop isn't common at all.

it's not liquid cooling, it's normal heatpipe with a fancy name

No, you fucking retard. Read it properly, Acer is using Liquid cooling.

I have to remind you all the utter shit company that is Acer supports the independence of Taiwan.

This is absolutely unacceptable and I'm not ever buying acer shit.

I am so fucking sick of the Windows Tablet meme.
