given that the test was running with only a 4790k, it could easily be cpu bound

Thanks for the information,op. I was looking for something about twice as powerful as a rx480. This looks about right. With the inevitable driver updates, this card will be a beast. And now that AMD is going full open source with drivers, I can rest assured that it will work great on a wide range of OSs and hardware.
