Posting here because it's the properly made thread.
other guy can get fucked.
why does the nautilus look like such garbage
>tfw when they make me post this twice
>tfw too intelligent to spend over $350 on a watch
>tfw too intelligent for diminishing returns
>tfw too intelligent to spend thousands on a watch rather than saving or investing it
...
So, one bad thing about vintage watches is that it can be very hard to find answers to questions.
Like, does a Seiko LM Special 5206-6120 use the same size dial as a 5206-6130? Probably no one out there has both and so no one knows.
Only way to find out is to buy a 5206-6130 for the case and see if it fits. Which sucks because the 5206-6130 is the most "Grammar of Design" shaped case out of the LM Special line.
>when you see someone post a picture then delete it so you put it back up for them
>tfw no PP.
I'm working on it niggas.
Can someone ID this?
yeah, that is a meme watch
Did I make a good choice with this? I like it more than the black SNK809.
Also, how hard is it to replace the hardlex crystal with a sapphire one? Would a domed crystal look good on it?
I found a seller on ebay that sells them for like 20$.
>Explorer II
>Royal Oak
>Sea Dweller
Proof that money can't buy you taste.
Right now it is a wall mount, do you think I could mod it to attach a strap and make it a wristwatch? Or pocket at least.
Spring bar. Yes you can. you can also order nice ones which you can use your thumb to push in instead of a tool or knife.
Hey, sorry for deleting my post but apparently I shouldn't post without Googleing first because I've already found its name.
>Hello watchmen.
I dug up an older watch of mine that I had to put away because its metal strap failed. How is that rod thingy called that has a spring in it and it's two ends can be pushed in? That thing that hold the strap together. Can I order one from ebay?
Thats ok.
Kek, the 2 pcs and 20 pcs kits costs exactly the same.
>mfw I only need one
Nice.
That's all a bit samey though.
i do like domed crystals but imo they work on bigger watches btw what model is this? i cant make out if its the olive one.
are you colorblind?
its called a springbar read the pastebin
How well does a Royal Oak sit on the wrist?
yes wbu
Can anyone identify my grandads seiko. i cant post a photo right now so ill describe it in 0000as much detail as possible. it has a dark blue dial on a stainless steel bracelet. its also quartz. the case of it too is very thin.
all it says on the dial is seiko. im sure its a dress watch too.once again ill post a pic asap
Very nicely despite the lugs spanning so far out. The bracelet feels amazing. I am a 6.5" wristlet.
Thanks. I'm probably going to sell the old YM to fund a future Calatrava. Went to try on ALS but didn't like the fit.
>being lefthanded
kys
Is he literally our guy?
It's still only a seiko bro
Check the back of the dial for the serial type
Better thread except you fucked the old thread >tfw to intelligent too reply to you the first time
>Being this obsessed with a furry
Jelly, what do you for work if you don't mind me asking?
Hard to make a bad choice at that range user
What if I'm left handed but I still wear my watch on the left?
I actually like that a lot. What is it??
It's the green/olive SNK805. They make like 5 colour variants for it, including red now.
Dr. George Daniels (reluctantly) took on an apprentice who brought Daniels' aesthetics further. His name is Roger W. Smith.
Pic. related, one of his designs.
>dat guilloche
Neat. I'm assuming it's still unobtanium tier to most people here though.
That's the clock Ahmed Mohamed made.
what part of the movement is visible on an snk809?
The bottom
>inb4 a shit one
bonus question is the movement on the snzg15j1 hackable or hand windable
>tfw when waiting on two watches
At least i managed to nab a Turtle with proper alignment. Sure it's on the black one but i'll get that one eventually.
Well, you can see the balance assembly, rotor, and automatic winding system.
Neither, the 7S36 only has automatic winding and day/date quickset.
The similarly styled SRP715 does offer that, but it's slightly bigger.
It's not, you have to go to SRP line for 4r movements.
:^)
thanks , nice watch btw
Thanks freindo! It was the shitty thread and it wasn't first for Russia.
It is, and not only because of the price.
The waiting list is just incredibly long. He had been making the same watch for 10 years, and just last year launched two new models. Expect the last of those to be finished in 10 years if you order now.
Don't know if you saw that thread, but I caved and overpaid for a classic blue sunburst dial LM Special because I never see them on Y! Auctions with that dial.
It's on its way to me now. Dial is in immaculate condition, going to swap it into the 5206-6060 case I have lying around due to the non-standard lugs on the 5206-6120.
why spend so much money on an accessory that nobody gives a fuck except ((You))??
this is like the /mkg/ meme
But what is that?? I needs it!!
I didn't.
I'd keep the case just for the nice looking bracelet. Though, are you referring to that one that came without a rotor originally?
Also, managed to peddle away my broken LM special to some poor Canadian.
Vostok buran anartctic expedition
It's nothing like mkg, because at least there you have a nice peripheral that you use everyday to interact with your computer which is your main reason to live.
In this thread, they just post pointless jewelry.
>why spend so much money on an accessory that nobody gives a fuck except ((You))??
You can make money and get pussy by buying Rolex watches. There's your practical reason now fuck off.
Things that I give a fuck about are the only things that actually matter
>i buy my things for other people
Aka a franken'd Vostok with an aftermarket dial.
a e s t h e t i c
Oh fuck yeah just pulled the trigger on on on ebay
On one on
Fucking autocorrect
But I wear a watch everyday... For longer than I use my keayboard...
>(reluctantly)
I'd hardly say that.
A 24 year old shows up on your door (Again) and presents you with a pocketwatch he made with his own hands, something Daniels himself didn't do until well into his 40's. I believe Daniels was more than pleased to take Roger on, so that he could teach Roger everything he knew. Daniel's goal with every watch he made, was to do something new, something to improve the keeping of time, and I think he knew the only way he could continue to do that, was to teach Roger.
He actually makes less pieces than dufour did when he was still making simplicities.
I thought Roger said he was rejected his first time approaching Daniels
And your point? He asked what it was. That's what it is.
Ref? Please
The first time. Yes. By his own accounts even Roger knew the first watch he made was terrible. He was sent away by Daniels, told to do better. And he did. At the time of bringing the first piece, Roger was 22 I believe.
people with newly found wealth are likely to spend it on frivolous things, they aren't used to having that sort of disposable income
those who are already financially stable and adjusted to a lifestyle with more income will either continue perpetuating the cycle of blowing their money, or will eventually realize the stupidity in making poor/rash decisions
Let me correct myself, it isn't an aftermarket dial after all.
Though the history behind it is kind of odd/hard to assemble. It's a commemorative dial ordered by Aeroflot, likely to commemorate their new trans-polar routes.
is that like a clear sticker on the back of it?
Though it still has the incorrect handset, they are supposed to come with thin golden hands like pic related.
>tfw you will probably never own a high-end independent makers watch
>tfw you probably wont see a dufour, smith, voutilainen, ferrier, etc. in real life
doesnt look like it
You can probably see them if you really want to.
Yeah, but it still hurts. Especially the simplicity and smith series 1, because they time-only watches so the servicing isn't going to be as bad, relatively, to a fucking triple tourbillion complication or something
Without a good reason. To check the time constanntly? Just use your phone. Can't do it in a meeting? Why are you in meetings without your laptop or without your phone? This thread should be on /fa/ not here.
Actually the real ones have the crown at two o'clock.
>>Explorer II
That's a Yacht Master dumbass.
I may keep the case depending on how I like it in person. Otherwise, I can just swap the dial from my 5206-6060 into it and sell it since the 5206-6120 was offered with the exact dial that's in the 5206-6060 (pic related is the 6060 case).
Oh, also good job fobbing off your broken LM Special on someone else. Vintage watches can be such a crapshoot.
Recently began my foray into non-shitty watch buying. Got this SKX off ebay for a decent price with a murphy bezel and khaki nato strap. Bought a new pepsi insert along with some new adhesives and o-rings to spruce it up a little. Also have a Borealis Isofrane style strap on the way thanks to some user's recommendation.
Side note: Anybody have any opinions/experience with the Seiko Sea Lion? Looking at picking one up soon if I can find a good deal.
That looks like a garbage r/watches style mod, glad you were able to rescue it.
My impression was that Daniels didn't want any apprentices.
>Daniel's goal with every watch he made, was to do something new, something to improve the keeping of time, and I think he knew the only way he could continue to do that, was to teach Roger.
This I can believe. And Daniels did the right thing as Smith has indeed made watches in the same spirit.
I am amazed by the clean, uncrowded and elegant design.
If I get a brand new Black Bay, whats the resale value?
Oh, you're right! It's actually a model even more tasteless than the Explorer II! I didn't look at it too long previously out of a desire to avoid vomiting.
30% of list
I got this watch a few years ago from someone and haven't looked at it until now. Is it anything good?
Sure, I like it
I wish they'd make this two-tone dial nowadays.
tfw you've worn Dufour's very own Simplicity on your wrist.
I've met Dufour, super nice guy, very humble.
>My impression was that Daniels didn't want any apprentices.
He didn't.
But when someone shows up with a watch they made with their own hands, asking how they can improve, it's sort of different to someone turning up asking how to make a watch with their own hands.
I guess we'll never know why he took Roger on beyond what we may assume to be his thoughts at the time.
So around 2k€?
> (You)
>What's yours?
My background is Physics, though my PhD is in solid state I'd like to think I should be able to understand a well reasoned argument based on tribology.
>Arguments from authority have no place here.
Very good. In that case it makes perfectly no sense to ask for my background, does it?
>Everything I've said is very easily verifiable by reference to well known materials properties that it does not take a rocket surgeon to understand.
Thus begins desperate attempts to salvage an argument.
Using your phone is way less practical though.
And indeed, I often cannot use my phone.
I'm really not a fan of those chunky smooth bezels on divers. I'm assuming you have the original bezel too then?
>thanks to some user's recommendation.
Ayy das me
Is this a decent analog/digital combo alternative to a G-shock for $40? It's Lorus by Seiko
I always have a way to tell the time these days, you are surrounded by it. You can make all the excuses you want but this is a thread about men's jewelry and it shouldn't be on Sup Forums.
Shall I pull the trigger on a Frederique Constant?
they're well made, which one do you want?
I'd keep the case.
In case you'd buy another in the future.
Yup.
He even gave me positive feedback.
Something like 397HV5B4, 365RM5B4 or 393RM5B4.
finally saved enough to buy pic related, but stuck on colour. I'm thinking black, the blue is pretty bright IMO. What do you guys think?
