>2GB Dropbox account for documents and a few photos >120GB SSD but want to downgrade to 64GB SSD, for all software and OS, dream is to run OS from my SD card but laptop doesn't support it >No external physical storage, only a 16GB ROM smartphone >No image archive of any kind >Ditched all legacy hardware (HDDs) and optical media

Asher White
Yeah, there are plenty of autist around here.
Oliver Thompson
Terry?
Kevin Kelly
have fun when the internet goes down for an extended amount of time and you don't have shit on your computer to entertain yourself with.
Anthony Perez
Nope, I just have an all-in-one 1tb external hard drive filled with old games with their emulators and some TV show and anime
Luis Gutierrez
I have like 2TB of rare porn (nothing weird or illegal, just not mainstream shit), want to get rid of it but my penis constantly tells me not to.
Kayden Thomas
Terry is not a minimalist - he is a maximalist achieving minimal goals
Lincoln Taylor
did you pick up this fad from fucking hacker news
James Cooper
Sounds fucking stupid. I try not to keep useless files, but you're just being autistic.
Alexander Stewart
I'm with you OP. Only have an NVMe SSD 250GB in my desktop. Ideal for Windows and the few games I play and Ubuntu for work.
There is nothing of value on my PC, all my code is in source control. No movies, music or pictures, all on FB or streamed.
I have some encrypted creds on drop box but other than that, my PC could be wiped and I could have it back to how it was in an hour with my setup scripts in source control.
Tyler Cooper
Where the fuck do you live. I've not had an internet outage in the past 10 years probably.
Angel Evans
gotta like these euro pornstars from the 2008-2012 that didnt last long.

>tfw just bought a 4TB hard drive >now have 20TB of storage
Angel Barnes
I wish i could rent a plan9 server and connect my diskless computer there.
John Sanders
no because i archive tv shows and movies
got over 30tb of shit ill probably never even listen to or watch again
Parker Jones
my shit's been getting out of hand but if you don't count my game installs I've got ~500gb of stuff saved
Anthony Williams
Not really minimalism, I hate the idea of accumulating useless garbage , expecially when it's media (pics, vids)
The only things I always tend to keep are uni books, manuals and such.
btw i have 2 120 GB ssds, one 1TB internal HDD and one 2TB external
Nolan Cooper
Easy mode: use a raspberry pi... Hardmode: only use arduinos... Hardcore: only use a single arduino...
for all your computing needs
Zachary Moore
If it weren't for heat issues during summer, I'd have 20TB inside my PC.
Thomas Gray
>dropbox
lmfao
Jaxon Morgan
Hopefully within 5 years all we need is a smartwatch with projector display and eye tracking/voice input.
Nathan Hernandez
Pretty much. I shifted from consumption to production on my PCs.
Almost all of it is for Plex, because I fucking hate having to change or look for DVD's. While all of my rips are technically illegal, I have purchased physical media corresponding to the correct format (480p / 1080p), mostly because I don't like the rip quality's available for download.
Other space is used for VM testing and automation.
Colton Perry
I need more drives.
Jordan Myers
Just use Netflix bro.
Ryan Cook
Netflix doesn't have a lot of the stuff I want to watch, and what they do have rotates out.
Then there are the training videos. Nearly 3TB of training videos from horse training to lectures to systems integration stuff.
Hudson Edwards
I had a 32mb flash drive that I used for my school documents, untill I lost it
Jacob Flores
That's hardly minimalist. Assuming you use all the space you have, you have more data than a lot of normies do. If you look at how autistic some data hoarders get, you'd have to be just as autistic in the opposite direction to be called minimalist.
Ryan Russell
Once your life is actually worth shit, you'll start archiving personal photos and videos.
Christopher Lewis
I am! 60 GB SSD in desktop, 8 GB phone! nothing else
Alexander Flores

Joshua Perry
Let's all post our total storage amounts in drive and space size. >4TB HDD x 1 >2TB HDD x 5 >1TB HDD x3 >320GB HDD x2 >250GB HDD x1 >120GB HDD x1 >256GB SSD x2 >128GB Micro SD x1 >64GB Micro SD x4 >32GB Micro SD x2 >16GB Micro SD x1
if my math isn't shit >18986GBS total
Chase Brown
>No external physical storage, only a 16GB ROM smartphone OP I'm the exact opposite. Axon 7 with 64GB internal + 64GB Micro SD, considering getting 128. With as cheap as space is these days I only carry FLAC.
Aaron Stewart
For what purpose?
Evan Barnes
What the fuck is a data minimalist?
As if it's some badge of honour to have a small amount of storage when the price of gig per dollar is so cheap.
Fuck off and kys.
Fuck Sup Forums.
Nothing but a bunch of autist cunts.
Chase Baker
My dream laptop has 4gb ram 64gb emmc 5.1 quad core cortex a72/a73 11.6 screen i luv everything small just like ur mom

Donate all your technology away and go live in a cave you wannabe buddhist monk
Also i use a 60gb ssd for my os because it was 20 dollars at the time.

I have a computer i use for IRC that runs off of 2 floppies
what is this minimalism you claim to have, OP?
Tyler Moore
>2 floppies bloated piece of shit
Gabriel Lopez
>500GB SSD >960GB SSB >64GB micro SD >32GB micro SD >32GB storage on my phone
~1.5tb
Isaac Brooks

Adam Davis
Hardware minimalism
>1 modem that also functions as my router >1 ultra book >1 smartphone >1 ereader >1 pair of earpods >no additional storage Nothing else
Samuel Davis
no, i'm not an autist.
Chase Moore
i'm for bigger storage size but i do like to keep my data on those drives to a minimum.
Wyatt Hill
no. >128GB SSD >500GB HDD >1TB HDD >2TB HDD >laptop with 500GB HDD >1 phone with 32GB internal storage and 32GB microsd card >2 phones with 64GB emmc >1 phone with 16GB emmc >random sd cards and pendrives, ~150GB total
Nearly 4.5 TB total, and I'm sure there are autists out there with lots more.
Robert Harris
Link?
Austin Wilson
>only 4.5TB I have 6 in my main machine
Liam Bailey
Desktop 512 ssd X 2 (raid 0) 4 tb hdd storage. Laptop 1 TB ssd - Linux 512 GB ssd - Windows Server 512 gb ssd 8 tb hdd X 5

Cameron Hughes
Wrong dog, faggot. That one doesn't even have an "awoo" sound ingame.
David Nguyen
I always had a fantasy of living in a cave on top of some far off mountain like a guru of old, except I would have servers running libre software, and I would spend my days in isolation perfecting HURD and growing my *nix beard until one day I descend from the mountaintop and liberate the world from mega corps and their proprietary software
Ian Miller
why?
Leo Baker
Nope, you better start archiving before that time and once your life is fucked up with wife and kids, you will start drinking and start remember how great freedom really is. Living for someone else is the worth thing you can do in you life, better realize it now than at 60
Mason Mitchell
I was like you before the fiber. >15GB google drive >8GB usb dong dong >16GB nexus 5 >16GB nexus 7 >158GB ssd Once I got 100MB/s symmetrical even 1TB was not enough to store everything
Hunter Martinez
Yes.
Got tired of being an unproductive manchild. Most of the storage was video games which freed up a lot of storage once I quit them. Anything else I could stream.
Crucial documents I keep on my hard drive, but anything else is in Google Drive. More efficient. I'd probably move them there too eventually.
The other thing is just my pictures. Which I should move to the cloud, but they're about 80 GB. I'm actually cleaning them out now.
So, yeah. Cloud is better for me. I'll end up using my SSDs for software and local backups. The botnet has taken over. My body is ready.
Joshua Morris
Same here.
I have about 1gb of an 8gb rugged flash used for KPX and some misc installers and tools, about 30mb of pictures of important things, documents.
Laptop is 30gb used out of 320gb. PC is 86gb used out of 1tb, 30gb op, 20gb games, rest is work.
No idea how you all horde such useless shit. Anything that doesn't see regular use on a month by month basis is removed and cut away.
Nolan Wood
I'd never trust data on an SD card. Only use that shit for transferring temp files.
My keychain has a 64gb drive that contains an OS and all my credentials+project files. Any other data is stored on my desktop which is usually just extra resources from abandoned projects and some memes and videos for offline use
Jeremiah Harris
Once you get older, you'll realize that you're not immortal and that your time on this planet is actually quite short, and thus hoarding shit is pointless.
Ryan Fisher
if its good stuff you should let us have a go through it Is it high quality, fetish, or vintage?
Dylan Evans
"minimalists" are literally nothing faggots who can't focus or make anything and try to blame everything else for their problems
>flip phone or no phone "I can't concentrate so society has to eliminate phones for me"
>"data minimalist" "I can't focus because I have porn somewhere so I have to eliminate the drive"
>"graphic design minimalist" "I have no ideas"
>luuuurrrrrrl i removed everything from my life because I can't concentrate because I have no focus errr!!! I mean its minimalism and my time is valuable so I removed everything to ever cause me to do anything
Isaac Bell
Yeah I like to keep a low profile too. 512GB SSD for OS plus 6x2TB HDD RAID.
Nathan Bennett
>120GB SSD but want to downgrade to 64GB SSD
That's not minimalism because the hardware weighs the same. Just partition your drive and don't format the other 64GB so you aren't tempted to use it.
Isaiah Sanchez
no, I'm the exact opposite
>tfw data hoarding is expensive
Jackson Barnes
>t. Manchild desperately trying to justify having 50TB of porn and animu
Jordan Evans
12 TB in attached media for me
Another 7 TB in backups
Isaac Mitchell
Nope. Between my desktop and laptop there's: 250gb ssd 2 x 500gb ssds 7TB in internal hdds 6TB in external hdds
Then there's around 4TB in memory cards, phone, usb memory sticks etc
Plus around 5TB in old ide hdds
So around 23.25TB all up and I'll be adding some more internal storage soon.
Justin Davis
This lel Your PC is literally gonna be the same size. Expect the hard drive is slower when it is crammed all the time
Christopher Cox
How does it feel to be poor?
Zachary Ward
This kind of stuff is so far away from what 'zen' actually is it just makes me laugh.
Some of my favorite zen stories are about when dogmatic followers of 'zen buddhism' got put in their place. Clutter has nothing to do with your peace of mind.
Liam Collins
What do you think this entire thread is about? It's very interesting what OP had in his mind when creating this thread.
Sebastian Jenkins
>dream is to run OS from my SD card but laptop doesn't support it
How about running it from the RAM? Try using Porteus with the copy2ram option, you'll have a minimal-gasm.
Kayden Gomez
Data storage options are getting larger and more affordable and you are going for less, are you by any chance retarted?
William Scott
Well said, desu. Here's your (You)
Xavier Long
not really a data minimalist but I generally delete shit after I'm done with it (besides music or shit that was hard to find)
mostly because i can't be fucked organizing dozens of TB of data, and i know I would spent hours doing so
Charles Wood
>120GB SSD but want to downgrade to 64GB SSD, for all software and OS
I don't think that's possible with anything but a fresh install of windows. My OS SSD has only 5gb left with 55gb used. Windows updates have a lot of bloat and it is hard to keep it down.
Liam Harris
Purge everything from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download Also there i a lot of shit in temp, which can be purged with disk cleanup tool ran as administrator Not mentioning hibfile and page file, both useless if you got more than 4gb of ram
Cameron Cook
I did this and now my PC wont turn on
Eli Lopez
No, I don't have severe autism
Cameron Carter
Gotta agree with this, you're all a bunch of autists.
Austin Mitchell
no
sage
Thomas Ramirez
Don't update. Windows updates don't accomplish anything useful for most users. They should be referred to as changes, not updates.
Austin Lewis
Install Gentoo
Anthony Peterson
I have tons of data I don't want to get rid of and it's seriously anchoring me. I hope flash-based storage will surpass traditional hard drives soon so I can carry everything in my pocket.
Evan Mitchell
Kind of, all my files are stored on a 500GB drive on my server and synced between all my devices. Currently only using about 200GB though, most of which is videos and camera RAWs. Then I have 250GB partitions for solus and windows, and 500GB partitions for linux and windows steam games, 2TB total, probably only 600GB used.
Elijah Parker
Even though SD cards are flash they're not the same flash as SSDs and are horribly slow for running an operating system off (non sequential writes). USB sticks are the same, I installed Ubuntu to a USB 3.0 drive and updating all the packages literally took an hour because of how slow the write speed was.
Henry Butler
They work fine with Windows98. I'm running two Win98 machines from Compact Flash.
They are impossibly slow with Windows XP or anything later.
Gavin Powell
the amount of muscle percentage on your body is directly correlated with the amount of data on your system, since you have more time to exercise and don't have to delete everything
Jeremiah Bennett
I feel like the ideal minimal gear is ultrabook with 128 or 256gb + smartphone.
Jack Roberts
Just think in your head how old and used up the actors in that shit must be by now
Joshua Hernandez
14gb usb holds all my shit incl linux iso, win10 iso, installers, drivers, docs and hentai.
i can freely fuck around with distros and ricing till i brick my system without any worries.
Cooper Myers
>not hoarding anime and images of 2d grils

The largest cyber attacks from 2014-2016 were more and more targeting infrastructure.
I fully expect at least one day in 2017 where we see a complete stoppage of the majority of Internet traffic due to an attack.
