They all work the same for me. Except that MPV uses almost twice the resources VLC and MPC would use for no reason (I tried fullscreen screenshots too on key frames). It all comes to features and customisation between VLC and MPC, and I prefer VLC.

I did an actual test awhile back. VLC and MPC used the same amount of CPU/GPU while MPV used slightly less GPU poer but twice the CPU.
Using this particular version: mpv.srsfckn.biz/mpv-x86_64-20161020.7z
VLC 2.2.4 and MPC 1.7.10, all 64-bit.

tl;dr mpv is a resource hog

mpv uses libass which is much slower than xysubfilter in anime with lots of fancy sub effects

That's an 8GB, 1080p file. of course software decoding is more cpu intensive, and it's on by default in mpv. Maybe learn a little more about the software before forming an opinion.
