No, culture always morphs and changes. Cultures clash with one another. Trying to preserve culture or keep cultures separate is pointless. It won't happen. Time erodes all. Furthermore, there's not a problem with actively participating in a culture you weren't raised in. If Japanese people like American movies and books I'll be happy others enjoy my culture, and I view myself reading Japanese books and watching Japanese movies/television in the same way, just someone enjoying a different culture.

Most of what she is saying is not really people misunderstanding asian culture, but rather taking part in a completely separate culture, that of weaboo/otakus, whose members usually know perfectly well that's it's not a representation of asians.
I am pretty sure that I see a good deal of 大和魂 within the "weaboo culture", after all if it's Japanese people making things then their culture will seep into it. Nothing odd about that. I don't think anime reflects Chinese, Korean, etc cultures though.
