WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT NEW TECHNOLOGY?

I'm self-employed, my income is quite good but I prefer to spend my money on bespoke and made to measure classic clothing that will last me decades instead of technology that is outdated in a few months or years' time. The laptop I use as my only computing device is 5 years old and my phone is a Nokia E7 from 2011 that handles all my emails and calls.

I want to understand why you care so much about these things. Do you get compliments from people around you? People notice my clothing when I walk down the street or into any room. I get treated well everywhere I go because of how I dress. Does your technology serve the same purpose?

Without technology your 'nice clothes' wouldn't exist.

>People notice my clothing when I walk down the street or into any room. I get treated well everywhere I go because of how I dress. Does your technology serve the same purpose?
Would you carry a type writer with you everywhere instead of a phone or tablet? Do you ride a horse to work or a car? Were your clothes made by hand or overseas in some chinese sweatshop and labeled as "Italian design"?

>implying

His clothes are hand made

>Would you carry a type writer with you everywhere instead of a phone or tablet? Do you ride a horse to work or a car? Were your clothes made by hand or overseas in some chinese sweatshop and labeled as "Italian design"?

I wouldn't carry a typewriter, of course not. My phone and laptop are modern technology, just many years old and they still work. I don't need to change them every few months or every year. All my clothes from shoes to shirts to suits are made by hand in different European cities.

>The laptop I use as my only computing device is 5 years old and my phone is a Nokia E7 from 2011
Sup Forums is full of poorfags who will praise you for this. Most people are using even older thinkpads they found in some abandoned office building and don't have a phone or use a dumbphone because Stallman told them smartphones are bad.

Oh, I agree with that then. I have nothing against the "if it ain't broke, why replace it" mindset. I'm just not a fan of nostalgia hipsters who get old tech instead of new tech because of contrarian opinions.

if this is what you think technology is about you've got it all wrong, yeah 90% of the threads on Sup Forums are consumerist threads, but thats not really what technology is about. and using a thinkpad isnt contrarian. believing spending money on clothes instead of technology is contrarian. if you want to spend your money on fashion instead thats fine theres a whole board on Sup Forums just for you
>>/fa/

The reason I even care about new technology is because I've noticed the stuff I own are getting slow. That's why I haven't been caught up on smartphone and laptops news for almost two years now

I don't follow fashion. I wear classic men's clothing.

>handmade
being this retarded
try finding any cloth that isnt made from modern industrial maschines means you need to visit deep africa where they weave the cloth from sheep asses

so you wear a suit everywhere?

They don't have sheep in Africa, idiot.

Same reason you wear those clothes, they confirm a 'consesus' for given social settings.

>stupid fucking people will be the death of us all

It was bait, idiot.

holy autism.

I don't buy things so other people will accept me. I buy the things I buy because I enjoy them. Newer technology allows me to do things that older technology might not.

Now, go wank about your favorite pair of pants somewhere else.

>black shoes instead of brown with that suit.

not even a fashionfag but jesus christ

My boss won't hire anyone who wears brown shoes. You are right though, that suit requires brown shoes.

>falling for the brown shoes meme

This is why you're on Sup Forums

lol

So you're the guy in tthe picture?

>WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT NEW TECHNOLOGY?
No one cares if you don't care about new technology
No one cares if you care about new technology

But most importantly no one cares about what you spend your extra money for

An example to put in in perspective
I love mountain biking and I buy fancy bikes and components but you don't see me making a thread about it on fucking Sup Forums.

That said, go back to /fa/.

Most cloth is made on machines older than 10 years old

If you stick with old technology you force company's to spend time and money supporting it

Nokia stopped supporting Symbian devices 6 years ago. No new malware targets Symbian.

...

It's time to get a new phone just accept it

Well, there are people like you who don't want to get new devices every year, but those kind of people want to get a good piece of technology(ie, does it hold up five years, like your laptop, can you switch out a part that might fail without just swapping the whole motherboard or getting new unit etc.). Of course, there are also those people who want to have latest/fastest specs, and people who happen to care about certain subject but not that much of any other. The main thing with the technology is, unlike your clothing, that we do it to make us feel good, that our choice was the good/efficient/bang for the buck/most powerful/the one that doesn't trigger our autism one. Not to mention, the fact that like every other people, we like to discuss about the field we work or have interest in.

people have different tastes and hobbies
cars, bikes, sports, bodybuilding, tattoos or piercing, alcohol, weed, video games, clothes and fashion, home decor, music, art, diving, sky diving, DIY, comics, movies, hunting, pets, etc. etc.

and some people like computers

kek
Looks like someone's trying to justify his expensive but ultimately needless tastes.

I like alcohol and software engineering.

oh my god this was so fucking beautiful i want one, look at that home screen

I wouldn't mind an updated version with modern specs

you will have to buy new hardware at some point, though

I'm sure this whole thing is totally bait, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Ideally one should buy new technology to improve a workflow (a smartphone that can revieve emails is more useful than one that cannot).

If your workflow isn't going to be improved by a tech purchase, you're well within your right not to make it.

>A cheque book AND a Nokia… What year is Philip Green living in? Billionaire faces MPs with props from a different decade

>Sir Philip Green pulled out a retro Nokia 6310 from pocket during hearing
>Phone enjoyed its heyday in the early 2000s and cannot receive any emails

>Twitter users branded him 'so 90s' and said retro phone was 'unbelievable'

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3643439/A-cheque-book-Nokia-year-Philip-Green-living-Billionaire-faces-MPs-props-different-decade.html

New tech is fun and exciting, your fancy clothes are just vanity items that exist to boost your ego.

I still use my Treo 650 whenever I visit America. It doesn't support modern apps so they can't ask for my instagram password.

>Does your technology get you compliments? Because that's all I care about

>Do you get compliments from people around you? People notice my clothing when I walk down the street or into any room.
Uh... why do I care what other people think?

Symbian is best. Refurbs still available on aliexpress.

... and you like to fantasize on Sup Forums.
Often.
We get it.

>Uh... why do I care what other people think?
Then why are you posting ?

This
And judging people based on their posessions instead of their intelligence is retarded

10 years isn't old for industrial appliances

>My boss won't hire anyone who wears brown shoes.
Your boss seem to be not very clever
