Anyone else use an EQ with their 600's? I'm testing out adding a little bass to them, but I don't want to mess up the overall signature.

I'd imagine plenty.

Try:

Preamp -7
+7 dB @ 20 Hz Q 0.7
-2 dB @ 170 Hz Q 0.5

The 170 Hz filter is wide enough to alter 20 Hz region so you can use equal amount of negative gain as the highest boost without risking clipping.

I know how to use my APO EQ slightly but I have no idea what you mean f.am

Here's what I've done so far and it doesn't sound bad, I don't want them too bassy because it messes up everything else slightly imo.

If you use apo please show me what you would do rather than try and explain it to a retard, cheers.

>tfw new pads are coming in tomorrow

I feel like a young girl after her first periods

I've been using Grado SR80s and SR225s for a few years, but I'm tired of the build quality.

Can anyone recommend some durable headphones?

Learn to use a parametric equalizer. Disable everything you have in the EQ APO right now or just remove those.

Preamp: -7 dB
Filter: ON PK Fc 20 Hz Gain 7 dB Q 0.7
Filter: ON PK Fc 170 Hz Gain -2 dB Q 0.5

Copy that, paste it into a text file and save it wherever and name it whatever. Go to EQ APO and in the upper left corner choose open(1.), navigate to this text file and voilà, you have just enabled that EQ. If you want to fine tune the config you can use the green arrow button(2.) to open the filters in a new tab, edit them from within the EQ APO or add new ones.

I did what you said and ended up with this. It doesn't sound like it's actually on? I'm only used to tweaking it in my own way so I have no idea what I'm doing with this.

A correction: if you use the "open" button, the EQ APO will open just that file and display its contents on the tab. Pic related is how it should look like.

>pic related

So how do I actually select it, instead of just displaying it?

Best budget headphones coming through.

Yep definitely not on. Change the "start from" option from bottom left to "current file"? Re-check the "instant mode"?

I'm not exactly sure why it doesn't work outright. You could add a line to the config.txt which is located in the "config" folder in the EQ APO installation directory. Move the BASS.txt you just created to this same directory and then add this line to the config.txt:

Include: BASS.txt

Go to EQ APO, select "open" and select config.txt. The view should now be just an ON/OFF button of the BASS.txt EQ preset, pic related.

This is a handy way to store and switch your setups: link to them through the config -file.

Who even wants budget full sized heaphones though?

Really makes you think

It seems to have worked but my graph doesn't look as exaggerated as yours. I'm not sure how to explain this but sometimes when I mess around with this eq and start a fresh one the neutral starting graph is flatter looking than it should be? and I have no idea why. Usually theres a decent curve to begin with and sometimes it's a lot flatter than it should be. Maybe that's why it doesn't look as exaggerated as yours?

For people who want maximum comfiness for the price, user.

Is Dvorak a meme? Should I go for it?

meh, they look nice at least

The only reason it doesn't look like mine is because your graph there has a different scale. They are the same graphs, your EQ is enabled.

Any other budget headphones you would recommend over those, user? I'm always curious to find new headphones.

Friendly reminder that the HD600s offer the best value of all time.

>They are the same graphs, your EQ is enabled.

Thought so, just thought I'd wait for your reply till I test it since I'm busy doing something else anyway. Thanks for the m8, appreciate it.

So anyone got the 6 months of free Tidal from yesterday?
I'm trying to figure out how to export a m3u playlist over to that shit. Or at least save it to a better format in Foobar2000

I don't own any cheap full sized headphones anymore but the takstar 2050's were my first good pair I ever bought and they were really good for the money, though I've heard they're made by someone else now and not as good anymore. I'm not sure.

In terms of iems I use the KZ ED9's and they're the best I've ever tried, and I've tried an £80 pair, and a £40 pair from the Sup Forums guide. Both of which were worse than the ED9's which cost around £8 from ali express. You can unscrew the nozzle and fit a 'bass boost' one to them, don't do that and you're good to go.

Just got a pair of ATH-M40X. I've had a pair of Shure SRH440s for a long time though and I never really thought anything about them, they've just been sitting on a shelf for a couple of years. Recently I've read some pretty good things about them and was considering returning the ATs and just using the 440s.

What do you guys think?

I'll be using these in public and carrying them around a lot btw

I think you should buy proper audiophile-level headphones w/ a decent DAC and amplifier and throw away your plastic junk.

Why don't you compare them and see which one you like better?

Not bad for a 220€ setup :)

Thanks, user.

You need a proper amp for the AKG Q/K7xx series.

OK, got 2 pairs of Philips SHP 9500, and when they first came they sounded muddy out of the box, connected them to burn in unit for the past 4-5 d. I know many don't believe in burn in, suggest "brain burn in" is responsible, but I didn't listen to these over the time so I wouldn't just acclimate to their sound and get to like it. Going to burn them in more, but they definitely changed character. They have become much more open, detailed, natural and more importantly way more musical than before. They still do have slightly recessed mids but the initial muddiness I didn't like seems to be gone (just a short listen, not my best gear, an iPod Mini into a Denon DA-10 that I'm also burning in), will connect it to my Pono later when I have some time (so far, Pono is the best player I've had in my possession, which includes i devices, Fiio X3, iBasso DX90, HTC One M8 phone, Samsung Ypp-whatever player).
Not a bad buy for the price at all IMO!

Why don't you enlighten us by defining a proper amp.

How comfy are you /hpg/?

Which is what the Hifime Sabre 9018 is.

The Schiit stack would be a decent start.

No, it's not.

>Calls Sabre 9018 not decent
>Recommends Schiit stack

> 62 ohms
> 105dB spl
> You need a shit stack for these
You what?

It's a cheap entry level mobile amp. Sorry to burst your bubble.

>itt people who don't understand amplifiers trying to discuss amplifiers

Not even the same guy
Explain how an entry level mobile amp will fail to power this

Bluepill here.
I need to buy some good headphones just to ear music. Budget would be around 80-90 max euros.

I don't like the schiit stack personally. I feel like the sound is too solid state-y for my taste. I prefer one of the entry level offerings from g-d audio, they really increase the soundstage and overall clarity of the sound compared to most schiit offerings.

Very nice, I used to have this exact same setup. Don't listen to the guy shit talking your amp, in terms of sound it's exactly the same as the e10k and the o2, but it can't go as loud of course. It's a sexy little amp but I prefer my e10k.

It's about sound quality. Your laptop onboard chip will power them just as well.

They are entry level as well but I consider them bare minimum. Personally I'd recommend tube amps for the AKGs.

>105db SPL
I'm a totally different guy, but that's 105db SPL/V (sensitivity), which isn't the same as db SPL/mW (efficiency), which is the unit that most manufacturers use. The k702 is around 91db SPL/mW.

Doesn't look that bad either way. Something an entry level like the e10k would do without issues.

>people praising their shitty $50 mobile DAC

Ah yes, I agree tube amps are definitely better for pretty much any serious open back games. You do need a trained ear to appreciate the distortion they introduce though, so they're not a good recommendation for somebody coming from entry level portable DAC/amp combos.

None of the "same guys" but those specs are incomplete(or the 105 dB SPL is lacking a metric) and we need to know what is the Sabre 9018 able to output aswell. It's perfectly possible that it can if user's requirements for power aren't excessive(heavy EQ or listening to music loud).

>105db SPL/V
Yes. Those AKGs are quite insensitive among headphones in general but nothing extreme.

>Ah yes, I agree tube amps are definitely better for pretty much any serious open back games.
I don't even want to know what you guys think you know about tube amplifiers...

How are these for this price?

amazon.it/gp/aw/d/B007I1QY5Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?__mk_it_IT=ÅMÅZÕÑ&qid=1486927937&sr=8-7&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=sony mdr 7506&dpPl=1&dpID=41DW2Pw7TJL&ref=plSrch

>certain DACS sound better tahn others

m8 what tube amps do you have I need to try them. I bet the sound is really warm and detailed and nice unlike those icky solid state ones

Yeah, I guess the DAC is a sacrilege - after all, HiFi is supposed to cost an arm and a leg and have an impressive marketing campaign behind it.

Either way I'm quite content with the setup, since I feel like I'm more limited by the quality of the audio files at this point.

>Either way I'm quite content with the setup, since I feel like I'm more limited by the quality of the audio files at this point.
And what makes you think that?

Can anyone identify the headphones in this picture?

Hearing compression or production artifacts in most of the shit I listen to, which is either old or I haven't managed to find in a proper format.

Silver ones.. my eyes averted to the poon.

It's funny how a slight difference in the position of single falling leaf can make all the difference between tasteful and vulgar...

Audiophiles spend more on a proper amplifier + DAC combo than headphones because they are delusional idiots.
But you found this $50 chinese miracle that sounds just as well.
What a smart boy you are.

The original production has a lot to do with quality but the format it is stored not so much. Modern audio codecs are very good at tricking our hearing even with heavily lossy encodes while maintaining transparency. There's nothing you can do for the production but it's very easy to find high quality files, even if the audio stored on them was poorly produced.

It's about diminishing returns.

Also, that's more than one person you're quoting.

Nonsense. Pictures of lolis are never vulgar, nudity or no.

Actually I've just tested it and it's not making a difference, this is really annoying.

There's also a point of no returns which headphone amplifiers and DA-converters achieve very quickly, at least if the returns are measured by audible improvements and if you aren't using an extreme load like a K1000. I can think of many reasons why I would invest into a high quality audio gear but deluding myself into thinking the devices have some arcane properties isn't one. Amplification is simple, DA-conversion an entirely solved problem for audio reproduction purposes. Past a certain point there's nothing to "upgrade". A much more real and a bigger problems rely in the frequency magnitude spectrum, response consistency and stability(blatantly quoting that one nerdy user here) as well as how headphones present a very unnatural stereo image that is disconnected from how music is produced.

got these bad boys in the mail today :) any reccomendations for a dac??

Is it really set up like ? One tab of config.txt, in that tab is one EQ preset "BASS.txt" and you have it enabled? Copy how it looks like there in my picture. Re-run the configurator and reboot if it truly does nothing. In instant mode you should be able to adjust and create filters on the fly. Something like -7 dB preamp is immediately audible if it works.

Kys yourself.

>PlayStation

Come on, user.

Need some advice, it was my birthday the other day and my lovely parents got me pic related. They're highly rated but they admitted that they aren't the best judge of headphones, neither am I (my current headphones are skullcandy, I've been meaning to upgrade).
So tell me see what these headphones hit, and offer a recommendation if they don't

Very comfy, I use them most of the day

my concerns with these are I don't know if they're closed, and I'm not sold on wireless headphones

I even cranked it up like this and it's not changing anything. With my usual technique I have the single power button on the left that allows me to turn my eq on and off so it's easy to compare. With this setup it's not affecting anything for some reason. I just restarted my pc too.

These headphones should be able to hit your trash can pretty well.

As for recommendations:
head-fi.org/a/headphone-buying-guide

You haven't set it up like I showed.

1. Open the config.txt in EQ APO. Open that file only.

2. Add the line
Include: BASS.txt
into the config.txt

3. Note that config.txt and BASS.txt must be in the config -directory, inside the EQ APO's installation directory.

4. It should look like mine in pic related.

5. Remove that weird sub bass boost you just did.

6. If nothing works, run the configurator.exe for your audio device again and rebboot. The configurator is in the installation directory of EQ APO.

> Unironically linking to head-fi
> Linking to headphones recommendations on head-fi

Oh sorry I forgot to say that I tried to add the BASS. txt bit and it made the EQ crash every time. As soon as I removed it from the text file it worked again. Am I supposed to put it in a certain place within the text file>

Here, you see everything in this pic.

Ignore my overly complex EQ preset but that is how you set it up. All the text files are inside the same config -folder which is located inside the installation directory of EQ APO. Open the config.txt in the APO. The only line in the config.txt links to the actual EQ file which in pic related is named HD800.txt

I just tried opening the EQ file directly and it won't do a thing on its own. I have to set it up like that to make it work.

Fidelio X2's

Now I have no idea what you mean. Here is a picture of the text file I'm selecting and what is inside the actual file. When I open this I get what I showed you before but it doesn't actually affect the sound. Sorry for being a retard but can you explain what I'm supposed to do next?

The config.txt file, user. It's right below the BASS.txt in your screenshot. For the third time, add this line:

Include: BASS.txt

inside the config.txt and save.

Then in EQ APO open up the config.txt -file and NOT the BASS.txt -file. I showed both text files open in the picture

Pretty comfy

Here is how my config folder looks now. I've opened it and it's not appearing on the graph.

Here's how it looks when I open config only.

That's it. I don't care if they need an amp or are so uncomfortable they make my ears bleed.

Please advise.

Have a look at the dynamic Fostex stuff.

I finally got it to work, and it's just the the right amount of bass boost I was looking for. You're probably not here right now but thank you.

None, theyre garbage.

Considering buying the sennheiser hd 380s. Not sure though. I really want the 600s but they are out of my price range.

I wished I had a Kirino for myself.

dt770 maybe, it's a little borderline as far as how much amplification it needs.

Just got my HE400i's in the mail, and they sound great out of my 2015 MBP without an amp or DAC. Are there any relatively cheap amp/DAC combos that will spruce the sound of these up? I've been looking at the Fulla 2 but I want some outside opinions.

>You do need a trained ear to appreciate the distortion they introduce though
Show us your Harman How to Listen levels.

They're planars. Different amps and DACs won't make them sound different.

The 380 will not be similar to or comparable to the 600. Also it apparently has a pretty extreme clamp.

Monoprice sells a cheap DAC/amp combo that's pretty decent.

>frequency magnitude spectrum
Frequency domain, frequency response, and spectrum are synonymous terms.
The spectrum can be broken down into magnitude (related terms: amplitude, modulus) and phase.

EQAPO can be pesky sometimes.
Working on the config file directly usually worked better than using the editor for me.
But you got it to work.

Is the HD 598 still good or has it been beat? It's 181 cad on amazon and I'm really thinking about getting it.

I'm thinking in buying a superlux hd699 and using a bluetooth receiver to use it in my bed.
What do you guys think?

Should I get an amp for MDRV55?

It was never good.

Well so much for that then. I'm too cheap to dish out 500 bucks for a headphone.
