This could have been the potential second coming of Geocities - when people used to make fansites about whatever weird shit they liked.
So how did this site get hijacked and turned into the central hub of SJW cunts on the internet?

besides, today's internet is filled with retards. geocities pages weren't made by rocket scientists but those people were still nerdier and smarter than the average tumblr user

it's a pretty terrible platform, the layouts are dead simple but peg your CPU for 10 seconds to load, infinite scroll, they compress everything so it looks like trash, the dashboard is awful, etc
tumblr is built for microblogging. Similar to how reddit has a sub for every single topic, every single fandom on tumblr has a community. Every. Single. One. From every TV show in existence. Some of the larger fandoms have primarily female audiences. Since most women are probably for women's rights they started discussing feminism, which lead to discussing politics, which lead to SJWs being created.
At least, that is my guess.

But people who made Geocities sites didn't coalesces into a singular cancerous ideology.
I've seen some where people have customize the fuck out of them and their pretty professional.
The hysteria regarding the supposed SJW threat is just that -- hysteria. The amount of "Social Justice Warriors" that fit the popular descriptions is actually very small. But, as we've seen, reactionaries love nothing more than to talk about invisible enemies.

One problem I found using it, from a user experience pov, was there was no effective way to sort people you were following into groups and then view posts from said groups only. So if you follow someone because you like some of their stuff you have to then scroll through literally everything they post. Pain in the ass.
