botnet?

Nothing desu. I don't know why 12-13" laptops are everywhere now.

Yeah, botnet.

Okay.

>too small for a workstation
>too big to carry around all day (inb4 hurr I can carry it durr)

not enough space for speakers beside the keyboard and having a numpad too
17" laptops need a comeback

From your lips to Tim Cook's ears, fám

Still have my ct15-a5 (like in your pic but the thin/light version), 15" sometimes feel to fucking big when it's not on your lap

Nothing strictly wrong, but with 13" available I'm not sure what's better. I don't miss the extra screen size. Some 15" fit a numpad but that also doesn't matter to me. In return I get a machine that's slightly easier to tote around by size and weight.

Literally any of those things could also justify a 15" laptop for someone though: need for a larger screen, fuller keyboard, limited transportation in the first place, etc. That's fine. Choice is a good thing.

12 inch with 6:10 or 5:4 is so sweet

Good for actual work but too big for shitposting.

big != portable

okay

okaaaaaaaaaaaaay~~~

The whole reason I want a laptop, besides convenience, is privacy. Not the I'm-looking-at-porn type of privacy, but more like I want to shitpost or do work without someone watching over my shoulder. I want to be absorbed into my work with the freedom to move wherever I want while still working. The smaller the screen, the more privacy, in a sense. I think 15" is the perfect size really. 13" makes everything seem weird, like I'm looking at a scale model of my work. 17" is for attention whores.

Welcome to the Botnet.

>I think 15" is the perfect size really
Wrong, 14" is the perfect size.

To big to be considered truly portable. The only reason why they exist is because they are the perfect size to manufacture cheap while still maintaining the notion that they could be carried around

>14" masterrace!
There's nothing wrong with 13" to but 14" feels the comfies... Especially since modern laptops can have a footprint of a 13“ device and still have a 14" screen.

13-14" seems the sweet spot. I used to have a 17" laptop and couldnt imagine using one now.

You fell for the fucking XPS meme didn't you

15" is the best size for home use and occasional carrying around
17" is just too large
14" could be alright but the specs are usually a lot worse than the 15" models. Portable though

>tfw no 2007 macbook body with decent hardware

thin meme needs to kys

>macbook
Disgusting

Best built laptop I've had so far and I've had quite a few. Easy to take apart and easy to replace hdd, ram etc.

rate my 13.3" thin/light bastard child of a tablet and laptop

what's wrong with the hardware?

It's just not meant to be durable, only to look good.

Macbooks are the longest surviving laptops I've seen personally. Mine has lasted 10 years daily usage.

The newest MacBooks should be insanely durable considering it's basically a SBC in there

A laptop with a proper cooling solution and no dedicated GPU shouldn't just break. My T60p too is still working fine
Apple seems to use really cheap/underrated passive components, which seem to be the cause of many recent apple failures

It's funny because the Intel generation Apple skipped, turns out to have the best passive-capable CPUs by quite a large gap

>A laptop with a proper cooling solution and no dedicated GPU shouldn't just break. My T60p too is still working fine

Exactly, it shouldn't break and it hasn't whereas my other ones have.

>whereas my other ones have.
And those were?

>13" and under for extreme portability
>14" to 15" for portability with a slightly more comfortable screen size, bigger key board, and possibly more room for hardware/battery
>Over 15" for big powerful mobile workstations

I can understand the appeal of 13" and under machines, don't get me wrong. As a student there's plenty of people I know for whom the weight of a laptop already makes up over half of their backpack weight. Going from a 12" or 13" machine to a 15" can make a notable difference in the amount of weight they're lugging around, and it can be annoying.

Personally, my major and schedule requires me to lug around quite a hefty amount of shit, and I've gotten used to both the weight and the convenience of having just about everything on hand. So, since a 15" machine wouldn't really make that much of a difference in my case, I got one.

Still fits perfectly well on all the pupil desks I've encountered and those extra couple of inches really do make a difference in my opinion.

Size

I love 13" laptops but I don't like 16:9
With 3200x1800, I've never felt like my 13" screen was too small. With 1080p or less I could probably see some screen space issues coming up

Dell, HP, Sony to name a few.

They're honestly not.

The only people who think they want something smaller are dumbass millennial students who think they'll use it in class but everyone with half a brain is just using a notebook and pen.

Too big. If it's over 12", I don't want it. If it's over 13", I won't even consider it.

>3200x1800
do you really use that resolution on a 13" screen without scaling?

Yeah, my 11.6 inch laptop does enough such as word and excel for uni, also cause it's low powered it has a huge battery so lasts about 10-12 hours

Also only weighs 990 grams so I just take it everywhere in my backpack and don't really notice it

Of course not, but the images and text do, the extra resolution makes the screen space feel less cramped
I'm using it at 200% scaling and I have a feeling that actually using 1600x900 would look worse than what I'm seeing right now

Actually no. I have zenbook

with 3200x1800 at 2x scaling you have less screen real estate than you would on a 1080p, so your argument doesn't really make sense

My windows don't have to be big to clearly see text and images is the point I'm making
I'm saying 900p with 100% scaling would look just as big, but wouldn't look as clear in text and photos
And because the text and photos are so clear, I have have a smaller-scaled usable UI
My last laptop was 15" and wasn't even 800p so I'm probably just talking out my ass, but it sure feels like I can have smaller windows and still see things

>not using onenote
>not merging your brain with the power of the future
nice try Computer Science B.A

terrible screens

Can someone recommend me a laptop. 12-14 inches for school. willing to spend up to 1k.
I was thinking of getting a xps 13 but the best buy near me didnt have it to try out. Too many options wasted on touchscreen BS

HP Envy Spectre x360
youtube.com/watch?v=-ePm7WGDj3s
Old lady knows what she's talking about

Not envy I mean Spectre
But in the last few years, the envy and spectre lineups often crossed paths, you might find a good deal on an "envy" that's essentially the newest Spectre with different options

i own a lenovo 15 inch simply for taking places. (fuck laundry baskets when hosting actual LAN) displacement is smaller than 17 and i can stick it in my pack when i travel. for individuals who value space. yes it is somewhat important. that said i probably coulda got away with a 17

Most of them are only 1366x768, and they try to squeeze a numpad in so the keys are too small. I would rather a 17" laptop if it meant a full-size keyboard and at least 900, but preferably 1080p resolution.

Laptops are supposed to be portable, if you need bigger than 13 inches then get an external monitor
